  1. to be honest im really not sure what rope to get but im sure it will be 11mm maybe the samson rope but im open to oppinions
  2. ahhh thats where i went wrong , i will remember that for next time lol
  3. what size rope are you using your spider on jonny ? i have found with my lock jack that a foot ascender and a hand ascender can make long climba really quick and really easy espeacially on long climbas where you cant get your feel on the tree . im currently using marlow rope with my lock jack but am tempted to give thiiner ropes a go , all that puts me off it that im not built like the average racin snake so at 6"2 tall and 17 an a half stone im sure if i would get on with a thinner rope
  4. ha ha class , sounds like im not the only one to do these things , my best so far was washing my 19mm new england lowering rope an the washing machine 300 pounds and a new washing machine later i was still in the dog house , but she has got used to it now , the kitchen normally turns into a drying room for all my climbing gear most days if its been raining
  5. where can you get those trucks too and at what sort of price tag ?
  6. nope no respect what so ever lol , yeah she bought me a marlow chamelion (as stated on my list to santa) to be honest it has seen me well but now im after something a bit better
  7. ha ha , down thuis way 3 strand nylon is still used by some !!! i dread to think that went on in your household when you got your first 020t lmao
  8. i would mach rather have got a positioner or the petzel head torch but i think the missus has got wise to buying me work stuff - last year she bought me new rope so it was off out to the park to play - that really did not go down to well at all
  9. ha ha great stuff , i bet you were popular
  10. looked like a great tree to work on , sadly we dont get many cedars down this way at all , how many hours were you climbing for ??
  11. well i mabout to go on line and order an art posittioner lol santa in fact did not bring me anything work related at all
  12. i was recently asked to take down a vetran beech because it had several sever pockets of decay in several main scaffolds by a so called tree inspector but i refused and thankfully the tree officer at the local council was in agreement with me . At some time or another we are all prone to jumping in with both feet and making rush decision that can lead to the removal of a tree needlessly or end up carrying out un nessessary works . In the case of the beech tree we have agreed to carry out a phased reduction of the tree over 5 years ie;- year 1 15-20% reduction of majorly decayed scaffolds , Year 3 - further reduction of remaining cannopy and year 5 formative work . during this time the tree will be regularly inspected and monitored to see how the tree responds at every stage .
  13. sadly it was not tommer , i have the joy of doing any callouts for w.p.d and silvanus over the christmas and new year holiday !!! to be honest im at the outlaws and praying for a big tree to come down onto an 11kv line somewhere lol , you having a good christmas mate ??
  14. the day to day road vibration will do that to an LDV , use duck tape in future lmao
  15. great idea i had not considdered whipping a retriever on , my problem would be that i use both my ART friction saver and a Cambium saver depending on what im doing and both require difrent size retrievers
  16. un lucky 76AR
  17. it shouldnt do if its within the last inch of your rope because both your bowlin and stopper knot should not be using the last inch of your rope .
  18. ha ha ha great effort but would have been better if you had put your spikes on as well or are you only pruning the bunk bed ha ha
  19. it also is a REMINDER symbol to make sure you have remembered you gallon of engine oil (for short journeys) and bowser full of watter oh and your AA/RAC membersip card:laugh1:
  20. does a coffe and mince pie count ??
  21. i guess that it is all down to how good your understanding is of pollarding , take for instance some of the stree trees that have been pollarded down here in west cornwall by the council - trees that have been lopped to mimmic a pollard . Then take a look at some of the orrigionall pollards over in france that have been well maintained and are part of a roling cycle of works . Personally i thing that the term pollarding has been and still is used to describe a poor practice that is carried out by tree cutters that dont actually know what they are doing or talking about , but having said that i have also seen some true pollards that have been carried out and can see the benefit's of trees propperly mannaged as a pollard . now i will climb down off of my christmad day soap box lol
  22. right here is an idea that i have tried out for one of my ropes that does not have a spliced eve but needs to be retrived from my ART friction saver or my normall cambium saver - Get a 6 inch nail and heat it up untill it is glowing red hot , then place the verry end of your rope on a piece of wood and approximatley 1 inch from the end or your rope use the nail to burn a hole strait through the rope . this leaves a clean sealed hole through your rope so that you can either fit a small loop of rope made from starther chord to attatch yoiur retriever to or in fact if you have a spare retriever then you can tie that strait into the hole . any way hope this helps . Failimng that do what i did and send your rope off to honney brothers and they will Re-splice your rope with a smaller eye that does fit through your ART friction save and most other cambium savers , i had one of my marlow ropes done and was impressed that it came back propperly spliced as opposed to the chunky sewn eye that it orrigionally came with
  23. well firstly i would change the spark pluug and see if thats any better , then see if you have a spark , this can be easily done by connecting the HT lead but rather than screwing the spark plug in you simply have to rest the end of the prak plug against one of the cooling fins on the saw , then pull the saw over a couple or three times and look for a spark , the spak should be i deep blue colour . if you try this and either get an orrange spark or no spark at all i would be inclined to say that its the ignition module that has broken .
  24. I really dont mean to offend but dont you think your a little to old to be playing with dolls houses ?? hope you and the familly have a great christmas tho
  25. There is no doubt that Meripilus is a Pathogen BUT it is suggested and has been documented that certain species of trees can and have survived for many years whilst diseased with Meripilus HOWEVER the trees in most cases need more frequent inspections and remedial work needs to be carried out for the tree to remain . i personally would not withhold any information regarding tree disease from a client but i would make them aware of the information i have regarding Meripilus and further explain what the options BUT retaining such trees is dependant uppon many factors such as location , targets etc etc .
