  2. hmm think i may give the long gaffs a go and see how it goes but only on thick barked trees . as for what point to stop climbing i usually t=tent to stop when the pole gets to a little thicker than my wrist
  3. personally i really recomend doing refresher courses , any refreshers i have been on have normally been where a tag onto a course for beginners and what a laugh it is watching them lmao well worth a couple days in a forrest watching newbies lol
  4. make on out of scaffold and second hand chequer plate ha ha that should result in an inkeeping look lol , jokes , give east devon 4x4 a shout im sure they do all the expedition gear
  5. well our local dealer aint even been given any info on the saw yet so im guessing it will be nearer this time next year:thumbdown:
  6. i was just looking at the price of the gaffs and they are pretty cheep so i may give them a try , if i dont like them i will post them to you wrapped in photos of me taking the trees down lmao:thumbup:
  7. tell you what tho i bet that old sj410 that may was driving would give tommers landy a run for its money
  8. i have a set without the cinch bar and find them awkward to get tight enough but i think i will get another pair with the cinch bar fitted (the steel loop bit )
  9. tbh i dont know too much about it , i spoke to a stihl dealer a few weeks ago and they seem to think that it will be a waist of time buying one untill they have been out in cerculation for a good 18 months due to the ECU like system that is being used on the saw , but that was only there oppinion
  10. fook the long gafs then , did you get the velcro pads for your bashlins ??
  11. right brian i wanrt to see you in the vauxal , tommer in his landy and shane in the bedford rascal go and do it lol my money is on shane winning lmao , as for bob i think you will find pat butcher gave him one (an aliby that is)
  12. double the throw line up im sure it will be ok'ish to climb on lmao on second thoughts dont try that
  13. exactly !!! where is the fun in that , would it not be more exciting to see some propper risky stuff done ?? it makes you wonder just how mentall the people must be that actually live there tho:thumbup:
  14. interesting mate what are the pitfalls with long gaffs then ??
  15. what a load of crap !!! if you watch the closing credits you will see that they had a 14 man support team with them all the time !!
  16. hi guys i have got loads of monterey pines to take down over the next couple months , any way i was down in my unit earlyer looking at the spare set of bashlin alloy spikes and thought about putting a set of long gaffs on them to get through ther thick bark on the montereys but have never used long gaffs before and was wondering if any of you have done this before ?? also what are your thoughts on long gaffs ?? cheers Dave
  17. i really hope that the new 357 does not come with one !! if it does i will be going back to the stihl361 or what is now the 362
  18. tbh if you start using bigger ropes then you will find it quite hard to get a mechanicle aid to back up a fig 8 , when i use mine on marlow rope if i need to back it up i will use a distel (on the running line ) or even a blake hitch would do the job also if you are using bigger ropes then i would ger a fig 8 with the side wings because it has been known for the rope to flip over the fig 8 leaving you with a larks head hitch that you can not do much about lol
  19. speaking from a background in cliff work i would reccomend a shunt , its simple and compact , it can be used for both double and single line decents but rope size would be an issue , as for how to set it up if you look in the instruction leflet that comes with a shunt it shows you , but when im next near my rock gear i will set it up and take a couple pics (the old groundy wont get them either bob) lol
  20. looks like great fun , i was really hoping to get my subaru into a snow covered field for some high speed fun but sadly there was no snow down here lol
  21. what makes you think it aint working bud ?? unless the half shaft has snapped i cant really see how it would not be working thb
  22. find a really muddy field and see if you get stuck lol , of failing that take it down to tommers place lol on a serious not i guess you would need to jack up all four corners and put her in frst and see what happens
  23. or simply wait for an accident to happen to you and call a NO WIN NO FEE cliams company lmao:lol:
  24. i have a fleet policy through trust but mine is for 5 or more vehicles but give them a call as they might be able to do something for two mate
