    No tax

The new system of not having a paper disc to show for your payment depends on an efficient reminder system. I wouldn't beat yourself up Eggs; government body efficiency strikes again.
  2. They've dropped in price since the £4600 +VAT I paid in 2012.
  3. If you get as far as Croatia don't bother with the far south (Dubrovnik); it's not worth the journey for a Roman City 3 times the size of a football pitch! But do some of the Dalmatian Coast then turn inland while still in the North and see the lakes at Plitvice. Surreal; they were the inspiration for the waterfall/lake scenery in Avatar. But get there early (8am opening) to avoid the coachloads (many). After that Zagreb is 3 hours drive north east and the old city there is glorious. Then home via Ljubljana!
  4. Uh - huh. (= I agree!)
  5. Well there is no meaningful update sadly. The response to my lengthy e-mail explaining everything I had said at the time elicited 'Thanks for the tip; (the boss) is getting a local tree surgeon to take a look.' So if anyone on here near the Glos/Worcs border gets called to a walnut with Inonotus keep us in the loop! Jon
  6. A couple of years ago my mate at Wick bought an artic from the Navidale Estate; worth an ask?
  7. Thanks again David! Your suggestions will be put forward but tree health is not something that comes to the fore at the premises. They were amazed when a mature pop snapped a couple of years ago; I could have crawled into the base, turned round and crawled out again. That one was by an entrance gatepost! I think also that any restriction on full access will be resisted. I could have gone so far as to say that the location is a hotel and 'do what you want when you want - we are here but to serve' is the ethos. The trunk sounded evenly firm to my knuckles! I shall update at a later stage when I have the management's reaction. Jon
  8. Better to wake up an old relevant thread I thought than to start a new one... I encountered this yesterday. The bracket's only appeared this year so seems very active. The tree has light but frequent pedestrian traffic under it - members of the public. Discussions with the owner are ongoing. Jon Oh for gawd's sake; how do I stop the unwanted pic rotation? They're uploaded from Google Drive, haven't been rotated and were taken with the phone in its usual orientation.
  9. Well it sort of comes to mind when your opening post states that you're minded to rip the shrub out and bin it! Rip the shrub out and bin it.
  10. jeffpas I guess you're in the US of A - pricing in $US, a/c unit on the house - but the hardiness zone is irrelevant if you can't give your Hibiscus sun. If you can't do that you need to grow something else.
  11. These plants want full sun in this country; the more the merrier. As said get it away from competition and into the sun. Don't give up on it; I have one that's been in and out of beds and pots several times and it's finally getting away healthily.
  12. I'd go with that; I reckon the leaf stems and axils are right. Here's a small one they've got at Kew.
  13. You're welcome to use my pics on page 2 of this thread though no infrastructure was affected. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/picture-forum/20880-rip-twang-kipper-bang.html?highlight=bang
  14. Thanks David. Not iPhone, Galaxy s4 Mini. I've tried again having tipped the phone the other way but the pic's still upside down on here... could it to be to do with Google Images? Nice Cotoneaster anyway!
  15. I'm trying to post pics of my Cotoneaster but if I hold the phone right Arbtalk rotates the pic 90°, if I tip the phone sideways Arbtalk turns the pic upside down! Any ideas?
  16. Not so sure on that one but I'd go for an Acer davidii if pushed but the multiple leaflets on a single leaf stem may deny that. Acer ish.
  17. Yep - Aesculus glabra. All well with you John? Jon
  18. It sure is a mess. TBH I don't know why some tragedy like Dallas hasn't happened before; do you know how many blacks have been shot by Police in the States this year (it's only July)? 123.

    Pain

Wise words there Billhook (from a 56-year old) but if my treatment regressed on the way home I'd be looking for a new chiro; mine gives me a few days' grace. But I don't hold it against the guy as from his perspective I shouldn't be doing with my back what I do. Taking painkillers to allow yourself to continue doing whatever causes the pain really is not a good move; you only mask the pain, which is Nature's Stop sign.

    Pain

Osteopath at least every 6 weeks and recently Omega 3 capsules for joints. It seems to have eased slight arthritis in one wrist, stopped a chronically aching elbow and a slightly swollen, tender knuckle.
  21. Only done 17k in the last 3 years so it must have had a flippin' hard life early on!
  22. The hobbyists are; the professionals are fine in my experience. You must have well educated turners in East Anglia; I can't get them to so much as look at holly here - 'cracks too easily'; therefore I won't even consider it. I think they're under the impression that wood is a homogeneous, immoveable material, not organic with that dreaded 'character' to it.
  23. ...Gray Nicolls!
  24. Felix, quick though you are I'm afraid someone's beaten you to it. Sorry about that but should it not work out you're next in line. Bird, were you asking me? I've no strimmer at all - no use for one. Cheers, Jon
