  1. Could almost certainly do with you on phase 2 of this job, or even this week if my shitty little chipper breaks down again! I've got to look at a job in Pluckley at 1, so if you could bell me tomorrow sometime we could meet up and talk prices!

  2. I would have climbed it.... Not! Really, really awkward looking job. Well done to you and your team. Bet you wouldn't want to do that every day!
  3. Dump the petrol mate.
  4. If I'm stockpiling I cut 10-12", but it will always depend on the grain, form and species of log to be split. Big (18" ish) logs for pubs etc. cut to order. 4" logs for tiny wood burners? Do you want to pay 3x as much 'cos it's three times the work? Thought not. Goodbye.
  5. It's a tricky one. Because tree work encompasses such a vast range of different jobs. The little black saw sapling fell for Mrs. Miggins? We are on a par with any unskilled manual worker. Any numpty could do it. The kind of takedowns Reg gets involved in? I would say that's on a par with fighter pilots or astronauts! Skill, brain and balls in big measures. Anyone working cheaply for the sake of working just doesn't get it. Those of us with brains should stick to our guns and quote what we know we are worth.
  6. Exactly what I charge for logging other people's stuff. And it's still too cheap....
  7. Top notch guys. Need to do that again. Bellingham Middle School 1979 - we were on a lathe all the time at 11, pre safe and healthty. Our teacher was called Mr. Wood! Lovely grain showing in last pics.
  8. Chortle! Seriously, was talking about it with my brother last week, and I honestly don't know. Say sub 3.5 tonne, Transit etc. I assumed normal speed limits applied, but I don't know for a fact. Surely different for 3.5-7.5 tonne?
  9. Are we allowed to go faster because we are bigger and have usually been drinking?
  10. Great minds Moz.... Dean will be on in a minute saying he knows f-all about the subject!
  11. Did he still have his bling truck and chipper Rich? That little prankster must have his signwriter on speed dial! Don't get me wrong, he's a scumbag. But some of these people are so dense and gullible they deserve to be ripped off! I'm surprised they didn't pay a grand up front for 'materials'. What part of 'don't engage the services of doorknockers' don't they understand? Watchdog have been telling them this for 20 years! I despair sometimes. I really do.
  12. Nothing wrong with overcharging for a job. It makes up for all the ones I undercharge.....
  13. Know that one! Bell you tomorrow Phil.
  14. I always think that you get to a point where you simply can't rig down any more, so have to chog lumps or fell onto a mat anyway, so I normally favour bombing everything onto a mat, but every job is different. Love rigging pieces of a spar, but if I'm honest, knocking smaller chunks off is quicker. Mind you, I'm not the fastest rigger in world. Has anyone else ever had a book sent up a tree?...
  15. I know what you're saying mate, but clients that get multiple quotes for pissy little jobs like that get right on my tits. Stevie Wonder would have known that £630 was OTT for that.
  16. Sorry m'lud. I meant thieving pikey scumbag. Don't know what came over me.....
  17. I'd be wary at this time of year Justin. The one's I've picked recently have had quite a sour taste. In a rush reading Watchdog posts, haven't had time to read whole thread. Glad I could help.
  18. I thought he kept his cool quite well when confronted. And he apologised. And I bet they were ballistic tracky bottoms and trainers. And they had clearly passed NPTC unit 99 ' How to use chainsaw near your mate's hands whilst smoking a fag'. And they were helping the planet by using the share a lift to work scheme. In the chip-box. And he clearly polishes his saws every night - are yours that shiny? That's the trouble with you lot. You are soooooo negative......
  19. I don't agree with what he's saying. But I would fight to the death to defend his right to say it.
  20. On the building back then, but I well remember that moment of horror when you heard the 'death rattle' from within your tartan flask! Also remember logging competitions at Stonehaugh (Kielder forest), blokes with big sideburns wearing PPE Levi's legging it round with revving Husky's after a lengthy session in the beer tent! That was before all this Safe and Healthty stuff, mind you.....
  21. Looks a pretty scummy area... How far did you get? Looks a big 'un. What killed it? (apart from your glory hole!). Nice shots.
