  1. Think the 'budget of about £2k' is a fair pointer!
  2. Great pic! Wonder why it didn't finish?
  3. I'll have one tomorrow Rich, we'll give it a proper try.
  4. Ha ha. Well remembered! Once bitten, twice shy!
  5. Ha ha. I'll bring meat tomorrow. That fire might still be alight....
  6. John, what Nick is getting at is that you're better off quoting the job. The £350/hour is to discourage idiots demanding an hourly rate.
  7. Good point Steph. I can still wear Small SA's, which is a great ego boost for me!
  8. Well, not technically a crane, but we used the neighbouring Ash as a craning point for some bits. Last pick was probably nearly 30kg. Put that in your pipe and smoke it Dixon. Rich Rule climbing, Stevo and me doing the work. Setting up Burning up Cocking up (Rich got fined £50 for landing a lump on my Beanie) Rigging up Footlocking up (if only that pulley would self-retrieve, eh Rich?) Good day.
  9. That rocket story was doing the rounds when I was at Uni. A long time ago. Love them, though.
  10. Remember volume can be misleading as well. 1m3 is not a cubic metre of wood. It is 1m3 of 'loose stacked' logs. The customer is often to blame. Loads of new customers want to know 'Is it a tonne?' I'm always tempted to say 'It can be' and start looking at the other end of my stack....
  11. Mike remind me to tell you the grease-bucket story next time we have a beer.
  12. Good post Ben. We need to differentiate between 16 year old lads in trackies dragging brush and experienced, ticketed guys who can run jobs and operate complex rigging.
  13. I'm not a size queen David, but there is a big difference between 3.4m and 6.3m! I bought the thing intending to use the lopping head much more than the saw, so I'm a bit gutted.
  14. I will be taking this up with Silky after another couple of glasses to fuel my rage! Meanwhile, I will adapt my old (screw on type) lopping head to fit the excellent telescopic pole.
  15. A few weeks back I bought a Silky Hayauchi 6.3m pole pruner. Awesome saw, great bit of kit, excellent build quality, very happy with it. BUT - I also bought the Sintung lopping head. Doesn't have the same fixings as the saw-blade (doesn't utilise a perfectly good pop-up stud, instead has fiddly bolts) and the build quality is awful. Cheap, pressed parts and weak springs. After 4 weeks of light use the blade won't return. Todays reduction was a PITA. I'm truly disgusted. Every other piece of Silky kit I've had reeks of quality. Anyone had similar experiences?
  16. I hope Mike Hill is OK. Didn't realise he was in Illinois.
  17. A cutter was killed in the clearup after '87. He went to take a dump under a rootplate, someone released some tension on a tree somewhere further up the windblow line, the tree (a big Beech) stood up and squashed him. He was found clutching some bog roll. His PPE didn't save him.
  18. That will be nice when it's minus ten! DMM Revolver. Send it to me and I will send a suitable crab in return....
  19. This is the best post I have read about the whole thing so far, so I'll go with this one! Cheers Ben! Not sure about the axle weight sensors, mind. They seem to struggle to pull the dids over with a 3m high stack of scrap on a rustbucket Tranny, so this sounds a bit James Bondish!
  20. Snapped up the lot mate. Someone has to keep this industry on its feet!
  21. Noone in their right mind would price blind Woody. A decent set of pics would be good enough to get you some ballpark figures. Also any info about valuable potential targets, wires etc.
