  1. yeah i only try and 'prune' macs if the client really twists my arm. most of my mac work is tidying up shattered limbs and tops after the fact, or removal after major failure. i see quite a few, i like em, even the odd shaped broken ones.
  2. yur, ive never liked stihls sub 60cc offerings and prefer 3/8 chain so i cant help you with that... maybe have a look at baileysonline and see what .325 bar variations are available. happy hunting
  3. this:thumbup1:
  4. bought a couple of rolls when the $ exchange rate was better, got a selection of .063 powermatch bars as well. some dealers refuse to believe .063 husky bars exist... if so just ask for a husky .404 sprocket nose bar with a 3/8s tip
  5. difficult... maybe take some end weight off the tips and lightly thin the remainder of the foliage on the branch with silky/secateurs. just a deadwood will usually reduce the sail area a fair bit, but often leaves you with tip heavy limbs. the only way to really windproof a mature mac is with three cuts at ankle level tho, shedding limbs big and small is just how they deal with wind
  6. theoretically... but ive never seen one, only .050 or .063. much easier to run all 3/8 chain in .063 gauge, as any oregon dealer should be able to sort you .063 husky mount. i run .063 3/8 oregon skip chisel on any bars 20"<
  7. im always very wary of my harness buckles, if they all failed simultaneously and i was greased up and tucking my arms and legs in, it could result in a nasty slip! climb safe yall
  8. is it not a dingo mini skid loader? much better suited to lifting and shoving duties... but (if the price is right) i suppose it'd be rude not to have the grinder attachment

as long as the insides are clean you should be good to go, rough cast cooling fins surely just means you have extra surface area for cooling
  10. Harry is selling the saw mentioned by rebel commando... not the saw linked to in shane's original post. ive bought stuff from harry in the past and he is good to deal with
  11. put a 3/8 sprocket tip on one of your .404 powermatch bars. et voila
  12. excellent for natural crotch rigging, but not very strong compared to double braid lines. handles nicely and holds a knot well tho. i like it
  13. my pickup came to me wearing a set, to be fair they were well worn. but the rears bulged alarmingly with a full load of chip in the back. replaced with nexen roadian muds that are dramatically better and wearing well 25k miles on
  14. pretty good in the sticky stuff, but in my experience they go a funny shape with a load on... and thats on a smaller capacity truck than a 110
  15. husky 181/281(81cc) or 288xp(88cc) on 24-32" bar, good strong saws. parts are easy to get hold of, and the anti-vibe (although lax by modern standard) is prolly better than equivalent age stihl..
  16. get some timed cuts on video before and after the mod. great thread idea
  17. my what svelte legs you have rob!
  18. i thought the 365 and 372 were the same, only the 362 was different.. thinking about it early 365's possibly shared the 371 bottom end. i'd be happy putting a 372 top end on any of them.. just bear in mind the 362 has the smaller bar mount
  19. the decompression buttons 'work to well' and there is barely enough compression left for the saw to fire.. thus it takes alot more effort. stock 365/372's do not have uber high compression to start with... just dont use the decomp, the starter assemblies are plenty strong enough to take the extra force. not a fix, but its just one of those things
  20. cut some wood that isnt ash... et voila cleaned chain
  21. macs of all shapes and sizes on that site, some 70foot tall, 18" dbh and not a branch til 50foot up (like that one), some shorter but 6foot dbh and evenly branched, some multi-stemmed bush-trees. On the edge of sand-dunes and quite exposed to the whims of the atlantic, deadwood-tastic! will pass your regards to tom
  22. tall skinny mac that had slightly pulled its rootplate, offset face, tapered hinge and a bit of low down pull with tommers landy winch and it just about missed the septic tank.
  23. to back up a bowline, i just overhand knot the tail round the loop. simple pimple to tie, untie and check...
  24. Its far cheaper and easier to start an 'ironic saw collection'... stihl 028, 029, 08 husky 137, 261, 570... argos specials.. all the heavy gutless turds
  25. Taqreat yourself to a left handed tequila slammer! Heal quick
