  1. Can't comment on that model of jensen, but search arbtalk for opinions on the company selling it... I wouldn't give them my business.
  2. So, everyone is agreed, leylandii makes good firewood... But is the OP not actually clearing up a stand of western red cedar?
  3. What is the HMRC definition of horticultural activities?
  4. They do look tidy Rupe, and I'm glad your project truck is still serving you well. The only ldv I've ever had the pleasure to use cost 800 quid and a pint of rattler... It didn't have a drivers window and the chipbox was two different sized sheets of ply and a ratchet strap. It didn't have quite the same air of professionalism as yours, but I liked it.
  5. (Not specifically aimed at you agrimog, but generally) Threads on red dizzel and mogs always dwell on the forestry exemption, but is arboriculture not an aspect of horticulture? And in that case should we not all be burning the claret?
  6. A decent dealer would take an exhaust off a new machine on the shelf and have you sorted immediately... poor show fobbing you off
  7. Even better, the government should claim all trees for queen and country making it treason to even touch a tree. The public should be able to look at trees by appointment only with a government minder. All trained tree surgeons should be awarded a gold unimog and a knighthood for being hero's.
  8. Help a brother out, whats do we have here?
  9. i could probably sort some slightly burry wych elm of these dimensions. in the round, pretty much green. north cornwall, any good?

    Tecomec.

Tecomec have been making aftermarket chainsaw parts and accessories like bench grinders for donkey's years. Good gear, possibly the best of the aftermarket bunch
  11. Top job that man
  12. Ian,you should have said you pollarded it, that is arbtalk code for ripped it a new one, and no one would have batted an eyelid
  13. I believe the link was just to illustrate that the arb association definition of drop crotching is different to yours... and I think that was well worth pointing out. I dont think your methodology and justification are in question... just your terminology:001_smile:
  14. spose that makes sense.. opposed to halo pruning (reducing the crowns of trees overhanging/encroaching on the tree you are trying to preserve. a quick google suggests to 'stoggle' is to cause great, even overwhelming surprise... so best sneak up on those trees. i'd be suspicious of your client testing you with bullsquit terms to see if you bite
  15. meh, the odd stone to the shins just briefly interrupts the monotony. i dont find the shredder blades too bad with debris tbh. tends to throw stuff downwards more so than a flat blade or string head. string head has a`miraculous knack of directing all debris directly toward my eyeballs.
  16. ive seen and done a lot of mulching with a brushcutter over the years... have yet to see an actual shredder guard in the flesh tho
  17. Crackin back catalogue
  18. Handily, saws like the 372 with a (proper) separate choke knob, can be started without any fast idle, spinny chain nonsense. Fire on full choke as normal, push in choke knob, click off fast idle with trigger, now pull the choke half way out and pull the saw over, it will start happily at idle speed. Fast idle starting is a needless gimmick, half choke starting is much safer with brakeless saws/long bars and high compression saws that can jump about when drop started.
  19. You can burn up to ten tons of waste per day on the site you produce it (all though who's counting? ) Inform your county's fire control with address and contact details before you light er up. And maybe inform anyone nearby who might complain. Fire control will usually ask you to stay with the fire and inform them when it's out, in practice go home once it's safe.
  20. Hand tongs are much of a muchness, quality wise. Which size depends on what size material you plan to 'tong'. Small tongs struggle to grip logs near the jaw capacity, and big tongs are more cumbersome on small dia logs. Either way tongs are a good back saver in the woods, and handy for arb jobs too
  21. Have the bottom of the leg turned up, protective layer stops a couple of inches short so should work fine.
  22. Redneck... the correct tool is obviously a carb screwdriver
  23. Work trousers by engelbert strauss available in regular or long leg, the regular seems dinky... quality trousers
  24. Messianic hairstyling aside... Looks a great bit of kit, have always been impressed by the re devices. How much useable rope is contained within the winch? I'm thinking redirected, for tensioning speed lines etc
  25. CIS have given up on the arb gear. Sold the last of it on eBay last year. Still good for general work wear tho.
