  1. The hard option is really for 'ax men' types with 36"bars on 70cc saws. You might find they make the saw handle better with a 25". I dont imagine they would alter the antivibe noticeably... buy then ive never been that sensitive to saw vibes.
  2. Hard av mounts are to combat 'floppiness' when using long (25"<) bars... Said the actress to the bishop
  3. for the last half hour or so i have not been able to view anything arbtalk based without signing in. sign in prompt even appears on the homepage
  4. Joseph buford cox is your man for the birth of modern chainsaws... plenty of people had been making portable wood cutting chainsaws for decades, but in the mid 40's mr cox invented chipper chain, the first modern cutting chain, with raker and hooked cutter like we know and love today. In 1947 he setup the oregon saw chain co. the rest is history
  5. For chainbrake spares you will have to buy a saw with a working brake... or travel at least 15years into the past
  6. Cs38 is what youre after, no cutting involved, just basic access and rescue... Or wait a few months and see what new courses are born of the ntpc, lantra split.
  7. Reckon i might have to pick up a 540 this week or next. Reckon i might demand a set of flippy caps from husky tho.. false advertising indeed, shouldnt let em get away with it
  8. I see, so the flippy caps are falsely advertised as a feature... shame. Stubby ; the new husky caps look pretty sweet. A classic husky screw cap but with a flip out grip, and interchangeable with standard screw caps.
  9. I know how poor the stihl caps are.. just wondered if the 540's actually have the new husky caps? As ive seen pics of them with regular screw caps...
  10. are any of these t540's actually sporting the flip-up filler caps that are listed as a feature? of the 'real life' pics ive seen so far, not so much with the flippy...
  11. i think it will still be standing when you get to it in a week, and it will need alot more pulling than you think. seen a similarly compromised beech that stood for at least five years with a very similar looking crack that you could fit your hand in. it took an 8ton excavator and a full 5ton dumper to pull it over, after crippling it with a saw, and the remaining sound wood in one butress still sent it 45degrees to the pull.
  12. Zenoah/redmax arent sold in the uk, and the 543xp is not available yet .. no one seems to know anything about the 543... All ive heard is 14.5k and no autotune (thus i want one). Feel free to share any info you have
  13. I think the treehog is made for/by arbortec, and look very similar to the buxtons and harkie harness (but with a seat version). I think they look good, like a komet butterfly/dragonfly but with triangular leg loops like a new tribe harness (the new tribes were always meant to be uber comfy)
  14. 090 carb has a governor. Is it operating correctly? Also, governor needs to be bypassed in order to properly set the high speed.
  15. As above, i believe petzl can fit replacements for you though... if memory serves there is an old thread asking the same question and jonesie ended up sorting it for the original poster
  16. Advantage is its not on the roof... so the machine is better balanced
  17. Im pretty sure that was the first video ever uploaded to the internet, and all tree forums were originally established to discuss if it is real...
  18. Im sure it wasn't a put-down, cowboys are renowned for their excellent roping skills
  19. depends on the age of the saw, there has been several different formats of serial number over the years. post up the number and we'll see if we can decipher it
  20. Get the power company to cut it clear of the lines. Then fell away...
  21. so they didnt go with the new flip-up fuel and oil caps in the end??
  22. i think all euro chaps have a zip up the back of the legs (kinky style), ebay US or baileys/labonville are your best bet for the strap and buckle type
  23. likely just a 200t recoil starter case on a 020t
  24. cant think of any legitimate reason to remove a serial number. it should also be embossed (or possibly engraved) somewhere in the crankcase as well as on the outer plate though
  25. my take is that it is now in the final testing phase... when the user has spent their hard earned and is more likely to baby the saw, and less likely to thrash it to destruction and pick holes in everything like they would with a loaned test saw... i'll be giving it a month or two, just to make sure it actually works like it should
