  1. there was mention of ragging stuff up a hill with a van... in that application i would apply safety factors!
  2. buy the second one, and some parcel string.... seriously you are way, way out of your depth and im out
  3. putting so much effort into bad mouthing people in public tends to get you burnt eventually
  4. very basically... you will need a strong webbing sling as and anchor for your pulley, the sling and pulley should have a higher working load limit to the cable or rope you use, the cable or rope should have a working load limit several times higher than the weight of what you are pulling. the block in ty's link is for 10-11mm steel cable
  5. ha, i guessed it first time. not really a surprise, that little fella has some major issues

    Camping

christ... pick a nice place to camp, pitch up, enjoy, leave only your footprints... if someone tells you to bugger off, politely do just that. kids these days
  7. nothing wrong with pivoting off the dogs (thats what they are for).. however, it will make it difficult to keep the saw in the power-band if its being moved about the cut like a see-saw, and rocking a saw up and down has far more potential for you to lose track of the bar-tip and experience kickback, plus you will look like a farmer/builder/newbie/muppet

    Cake!

i have serious cake envy... happy birthday
  9. moles are getting more intriguing with every post. good stuff, thanks paul (both freebury, and deans late lawn buddy)
  10. thanks
  11. jumping in on the mole Q&A session. Moles are cool, but ive only ever seen them dead, on the surface, several feet from the hole, without any obvious injury... why? do they come out on the surface to die of old age? or does something cause them to abandon the tunnel and they then die of exposure?
  12. im sure it'll be fine... standing ash around 30%mc.. split and left in the sun for a couple of weeks it can be below 25% and still look fresh as a daisy. not that someone is likely to complain when you do an 'emergency' delivery of a couple of bags worth in the boot of a hatchback
  13. so... are they named after the lunar crater? german baroque composers? polish shot putter? swiss martial artist? or everyones favourite, fictional, sexual-deviant, mad scientist, born from the frozen seed of hitler, Dr Krieger...?
  14. You wont 'stall' a saw by cutting wood with it... your lack of undestanding of how 2stroke machinery works is concerning
  15. el cheepo chinese saws... by and large the engines are copies of 25+yr old japanese designs. they were not first rate designs even then. they produce poor power for the engine displacement, and are usually equipped with larger bars than would be recommended (20" bar even on a 50cc top of the line pro saw will be fairly pedestrian in pace). to try and make up for their lack of performance users tend to lean on them more, waggle them about and generally run them like a farmer. their low quality ill fitting chinese parts will not take this abuse and they fall to bits in short order (possibly causing injury to the user). if you have very low expectations of cutting speed, and treat them like they are made of paper mache, use a quality chain and keep it razor sharp... then you may get a few years of firewood out of one.
  16. landscaping today, turning builders rubble into a fine tilthe
  17. On my tiny phone screen it looks more like a radiata.. does a stone pine not have reddish, less deeply fissured bark
  18. Sweet little winch mate. Oil caps are about 4quid on ebay.. there are probably more homelite xls in the US than any other saw. They were increadibly popular for decades
  19. Judging by the follow-up thread, you've got a job on your hands mate.. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/large-equipment/56130-more-bruunett-photos-bogie-out.html will have to pop up and see you at some point fella
  20. maasdam is an ace little tool. uses half inch rope, bites best with 3-strand but can be used with braided. doesnt seem to do any noticeable damage to rope (3strand at least, only used one once or twice with braided). much more versatile tool than the wire ones.
  21. Maybe, or he's shopping for processing equipment and wanted directions to your yard... Or his battery ran out mid call... who knows
  22. Hell! Good luck with that, Big self tailing harken winch maybe, just need to be careful with redirecting line angles
  23. Prussic and pulley then i guess, cant think of owt else that would reliably release under load. Some sort of belay rack maybe, but that wouldnt be exactly hands off
  24. Portawrap or any other lowering device with suitable wll...
  25. So you can girth hitch stuff to them
