  1. Just give it a tug when you think its on. Sometimes it will seem on but then half way up the tree you discover you`re covered in oil.
  2. If you mow lawns and do gardeninging then i would say that does the job.
  3. As already said. Been keen, take oportunities, stick at it, don`t try to run before you can walk and don`t be pressured into doing things you`re not happy with. Get in with a good company and you will learn good things from good people. Get in with a bad company and you won`t!! Good luck.
  4. I`d just add that its good to try out carabiners also before you buy. Theres alot of different shapes, some are easier to open than others. lanyard is also handy.
  5. Great thread. I didn`t know about warming engines up. I`ve been told about chippers but i didn`t know why.
  6. I was simply saying that the post was difficult to understand and therefore difficult to answer properly. Garry, I have a mate who is 20 stone and is a good climber so don`t worry about that. As said above, i would just start with a lanyard and prussik and take it from there. Pulley set-up is good also. Good luck.
  7. you could do to be more clear and punctuate.
  8. I`ve certainly see a beech fall over, presumably from Meripilus, with no signs of crown dieback, swelling or anything. Just no roots left. It was a big beech too.
  9. What would you pay for one seasoned hardwood log!!!
  10. I think i`ll second the visor opinion. The Stein is ok but i think i`ll go back to Ventex when this ones done.
  11. You could try garden law discussion forum Mick Garden Law Discussion :: Index There are people on there who know alot about the legal side of things and who needs to prove what.
  12. I can`t believe i never thought of that before! Tried it out today and it was splendid. Totally changes big tree climbing. Cheers:thumbup:
  13. I think the point is not what label they are on, everyone is on a label. The point is that Rage write their music all by themselves with no help, that they are a band who firstly speak out against empty music and empty broadcasting and have a whole lot of other stuff to say. It doesn`t matter if you agree with it or not, they have real opinions relating to the real world.
  14. Entecs are ok little machines to use. They can be very frustrating to use if the rollers are weak though.
  15. So what do those who sell pre spliced ropes do to test competance?
  16. Forestry Commission - Exemptions 1 Lists exemptions
  17. I nearly put this one up the other day when someone asked what snatching was. Thats quite a wobble!
  18. The colledge should teach you from scratch although they may do 1 or 2 day introduction courses which are worth doing. If you know someone who can show you some knots ie bowline, figure 8, prussic knot etc then that would be worth while. Also the tree climbers companion is a good book to get you head round some stuff. I`m sure you`ve climbed a tree before. What the colledge teach is a technique for climbing with ropes and is best learnt from someone who knows to avoid bad habits.
  19. I can`t visualize a false anchor that you could easily work a pollard stem top from and then deacend and remove. Unless you have the perfect size cambium saver.
  20. Sometimes its the best way. Make sure you wear a stein jet pilot lid and then you look like a pro.
