  1. Just for the record i`m also with Arbinsure but i also have alot of time for Trust, Arbinsure were just cheaper.
  2. NFU, Trust, Arbinsure all do good insurance. Give them a call, different people get different results. There are some that advertise in the boxes on the right of the screen. All worth a try.
  3. Not so much about disease and fungi but "Stupsi explains the tree" is a good beginners book on biomechanics. You may know what there is to know in there anyway but its worth a read. Don`t be put off by it`s childrens book style. Diagnosis of ill health in trees is a thorough book on disease. Its not basic but its easy to use so you can identify possible diseases based on species. Well worth carrying round with you.
  4. I`m an experienced subbie. Competent and confident with most stuff. I`m based in Stroud, Glos and am prepaired to travel a reasonable distance; Bristol, Gloucester, Cheltenham areas. Can supply truck if necessary. Pm if you`re interested
  5. Maybe the wound is from an old fire or building work, something like that. The bark dies, the wood dies, then the saprophyte moves in.
  6. No worries, i enjoyed paying off the bad karma.
  7. The application date has passed now. You could try calling westonbirt.
  8. Basically you just need to go on line and fill out the form if the job is still on offer. The people i email weren`t that helpful and just told me to fill out the form. Good Luck.
  9. Welcome mate. Try some of the companies in the boxes on the right. Different companies suit different needs. Phone around and get some quotes.
  10. I hope it goes well for you. It`s a massive learning curve:biggrin:
  11. I totally know where you`re coming from, sometimes you look at something and think its only really worth £50 tops. Its just a learning thing
  12. If you price coz you don`t want to loose the job, in the long run you end up working too hard for too little. Better to waste the fuel and do sensible pricing than waste your life doing work for little reward. I know where of i speak.
  13. I love the comentary aboot 5 minutes time.
  14. I found basic, basic leaflets didn`t bring in big customers but they brought ok jobs for reasonable money, often not quoting against anyone else. Its a bit difficult to compair to now as i have a web address so people can check that. I have had little success with big big properties. Its possible a really pro flyer would work on these sorts of places. Interestingly as i am writing this one of the local councils has asked for a quote as a result of a flyer i recently posted.
  15. I have found that leaflets generally bring in jobs, not always, but generally. When i first started making leaflets they were totally shoddy but still bring the work in. Say what you need to say simply. If you put out a flyer with PROFESSIONAL TREE WORK at the top and HEDGE TRIMMING underneath then you will generally get tree enquiries. If you do it the other way round you will generally get hedge enquiries. Leaflets serve as a memory jog, most people read the first line and if they`re not interested then its in the bin. My flyers look reasonably pro now and they bring in about the same number of enquiries as crude leaflets. remember that a leaflet is about selling yourself to a customer, not impressing other arbs. I hope you get more work.
  16. I can`t see why lime would help drainage, it would just alkalize the soil.
  17. Sounds to me like, in what you do, you do your best and that is good although the thread is more about replanting rather than workmanship. Utility work is a different kettle of fish to domestic or municiple. I`m glad that the roads, railways and power lines are kept clear.
