  1. Very small pictures but it looks like Wild Service Sorbus tormanelis
  2. Bleeding canker, stress crack or fust a natural crack in the bark that can develop as trees get bigger are all possibilities.
  3. First one i would guess is Meripilus. Second one possibly Ganoderma pfeifferi. It probably wants looking at by a consultant.
  4. I don`t know about the lodging but i had a great time at Merrist Wood. Don`t worry, you`ll love it:thumbup:
  5. I`ve met a few of those. In fact who knows, maybe i am one sometimes
  6. The second ones are I. hispidus but it is growing out of an old wound so would want a bit of investigation. It might be living on deadwood or it might not. The first ones i don`t know but they are not pathogenic.
  7. i had some protector extreme that did that. The little screw in spikes made it impossible to resole properly. However my recent haix, don`t know their name, the brown ankle boots, are doing fine.
  8. I like the way the car behind just pulls up ready to order:lol:
  9. Or even Meripilus giganteus - Giant polypore - David Humphries’s Fungi Directory - Arbtalk.co.uk | Discussion Forum for Arborists
  10. If you`re planning to fell it then its a good idea to take some weight out and have a pull rope on it or a winch/vehicle if you have one. If you`re dropping stuff into the road then just bear in mind that people drive like idiots so make sure you have adequate visiblity and stopping time. If in doubt lights, if your`re confident you can do it safely then use stop boards and plenty of signage. You can hire boards and signs pretty cheap. The fungi is just a saprophyte. The issue is what has caused the disfunction and dieback and how serious is this. Looking at the tree i don`t think there would be much left after 40% off but others might be able to give better advice on that front.
  11. I think if its in poor condition then a 40% reduction isn`t going to do it any favours but it`s a bit hard to tell from the photos. Traffic control depends on the road. I can see a bend so if cars travel fast along the road then lights might be a good idea. If its a quiet road then you may be ok with stop/go boards. Could you fell it into the field? That would reduce the time working on the road. If you`re not sure don`t do it.
  12. Hhhhhhhmmmmm, what`s better, softwood or hardwood?
  13. But which do you think is Better, Stihl or Husqvarna?
  14. With personal injury insurance you get what you pay for. Check the terms, they vary greatly.
  15. I just bought some Gecko`s and i think they are splendid! I borrowed someone elses and wasn`t that impressed but once you adjust them properly they are really good. Best £190 i ever spent.
  16. If only more people were like that
  17. Sure, and thats why i`m not a fan of Dawkins. It`s worth remembering that Science, Maths and Religion all started from the same place anyway. Also that for thousands of years the civilizing process was pushed forward by fear of God/Gods not to metion alot of the food we eat etc so its not all bad by any means. Without a certain fear of retribution the law of "the only crime is getting caught" come in to play.... ....but i digress
  18. I think anyone who has ever thought about existance must want to know that. Did some omnipotent being create it and is so who created the creator or did everything randomly appear from quite literally nothing... and does it really go on for ever. Either way its mind boggling and why are flowers beautiful, i just enjoy it
  19. I know of a case where a well meaning atheist systematically dismantled somebody`s belief system. That person had a nervous breakdown. Pulling away someones psycological foundation can do alot of damage. Sometimes people need to realise the slow way. Obviously there are some extreme cults that do alot of damage and if you can help people out of that then that is all well and good. I would always question if enlighten means to bring clarity to someone or to convert to your opinion. There are also alot of people that get alot from their religion. I`m not religious by the way. By the way its interesting to note that in former communist countries its the in thing for kids to be religious, in Eastern Europe and in China so its possible that the current western trend for atheism may change in a generation or two.
  20. Oh dear! That`s going to be in my head for days now!
  21. Unless someone has had an experience of divinity they must be agnostic. This is the only reasonable view. Atheism, like extreme religious views are based on an emotional reaction. Dawkins is an evangelistic and extreme atheist and is as bad as the extreme evangelists he insists on trying to convert. If you believe in God, great, if you don`t, great. Why do people insist on trying to convert each other? just be happy.
