  1. go into tools, then options, then security, then untick the box saying block reported attack sites and it will let you in... if you want.... mine was doing that today so thats what i did.
  2. One of the AFAG leaflets says (i can dig it out if needs be) that we MUST have Cs41 for dismantling. I`m not happy about this but this is what our industry code of practice states. That is not grey. Its black and white.
  3. ok. good point. I guess that could inculde buddlia, liliac too.
  4. I have a young lad work for me. I pay him £70 to ground and he does the work of two. Absolutely top worker. There are some out there.
  5. Exactly. National strategy. Legal protection and funding to make work and preservation possible.
  6. If anyone is interested in link swapping i`d be happy to do the same.
  7. Totally agree. Protect and expand what is left. i found it interesting at the ancient tree meeting recently that there are, for example huge ammounts of money going into getting dry stone walls redone yet virtually nothing going into ancient trees. Basically for anything to be really sucessful it needs to be implamented on a national scale. However, in the mean time those who work on trees should be trying to encourage customers to replant with suitable trees.
  8. However, wildlife still declines, so more habitat is essential. I think its also important to emphasise that a few trees planted at a time is better than planting on mass. That way we end up with trees of mixed age.
  9. A friend of mine runs a small company which tries to replant somewhere for every tree he takes down. I think thats good and have started to do the same. Finding space can be a problem. At the end of the day it`s better to plant 10 trees that actually survive than 1000 that don`t. From a buisness point of view its always better, i think, to try and get customers to prune rather than fell, therefore felling less
  10. Theres the personal accident in the boxes on the left. BMC (British mountaineering council) do a working and climbing worldwide cover but i don`t know if it will cover tree work. They do excellent insurance though. You looking at work in Austria?
  11. What kind of insurance?
  12. Thanks. Is good place to find more tree law precedants?
  13. Its always a nightmare to reduce something thats been topped before. I think that considering what you have to play with they look fine. Maybe next time they will be easier. With lime i would be inclined to top them again and try and get some half decent pollard heads going. Even then its good to leave a few fluffy bits.
  14. I have commuted an hour each way. I got sick of it in the end, what a waste of life. At the end of the day whats it worth. A long commute for good money, good experience or because you have to is fine you just have to think of travel costs. But rather 5 minutes than 1 hour any day.
  15. It would be nice if the kit all came with minimum break strain, working load limit and a worst case scenario limit.
  16. A very valid point. I learnt on the job, thats why i asked who had cs 40 41. This certainly highlights my gaps in knowledge. Sorry to derail.
  17. If you don`t want to spend much Robin do a little pole trimmer for about £150 which is really good.
  18. Bearcats are ok if the blades are sharp. If they are bunt then they`re a pain.
  19. Is that a rock climbers lid?
  20. Yes thats true. As i understand it 45kn is what a 4500kg static downward load exerts. After that it all gets rather technical.
