  1. Slight deviation here, but what actually constitutes a legal site?
  2. Totally random. Ammused me anyway [ame] [/ame]
  3. yeah, nothing like a Hawthorn in the knuckle to make you swell up:thumbdown::evil:. Not even gloves stop them.
  4. I found that making up leaflets and delivering them when you`ve got nothing better to do brings jobs in. There are those who would say home made stuff looks a bit pikey, they might be right but its kept me alive. Put a bit of thought in see how it goes. Defienitly would second the opinion to beware all the dodgy scams that call you the moment you get any paid advertising. I`ve wasted money on stuff that has brought in no work. Local papers can be good, also parish news letters if that applies to your area. Just remember, never sign up to anything on impulse, don`t be pressured into stuff by sales people or smooth talking advertisers. Think before you spend. The best ad in my experience is do a good job and do a good tidy, word of mouth keeps you going.
  5. I think the interesting bit is the term "disturb" nesting birds and as i understand that doesn`t necessarily have to mean destroy. I think that in practice, as its a statute issuse, therefore a police matter, its unlikley that prosecutions are likley to go ahead unless there is a case of notable neglegence or malice. I bring up the point of disturb because i was once buisybodied by someone for using a chipper in nesting season!! in truth the birds probably were disturbed but i doubt anyone would prosecute for that. In practice i don`t start work if i know there are birds nesting, if i find them i work round them and if i colide with one i move it to a safe place.
  6. You might find this useful too. http://www.gardening-tools-direct.co.uk/content/husqwm266_hwen2003_1140147-26.pdf
  7. I`d like to add my appreciation. As someone who has set up on my own in the past 12 months arbtalk has been a massive help with expanding my knowledge, keeping me up to date and finding out how others go about it, Cheers everyone.
  8. 96ft assuming your man is about 6ft
  9. I`ve had a yell ad and mostly it annoyed me the money i payed for very little response. However, the odd little job has led to thousands in knock on work and has kept me going. so yes, you do have to be in it to win it and it is worth tracking what jobs came from where. I`d be interested to know where everyone else gets their work from though, other than recommendadtion. Personally i get alot of work from leaflets
  10. I was discouraged by yellow pages from getting an ad. I was going to switch from yell to yellow pages. However i was told that they were trying to phase the book out so i stuck with yell
  11. Maybe you want to think about who you work for!!!
  12. well i guess ideally TO should have both experience in practical arb and also paper to prove they know what they`re talking about. Trouble is, with some years behind me now and having some idea of the thankless balancing act... i don`t think i`d want the job...
  13. I know they`re round the base but they look like oyster fungus
  14. These guys phoned aquaintance of mine and nearly got him to sign up and to be fair he was a rubbish tree surgeon. Says something for their discernment!
  15. The Silvanus Bristol crew have some good guys there. I`d second that
  16. Gas, electric, water pipes etc. Access. I don`t know about can`t remove but i generally don`t remove species that don`t regrow unless its really necessary.
  17. Big up the Reggae Reggae!!!:001_cool:
  18. I injured myself once when climbing. I asked a few people involved in the sport industry who said that on the whole it was more important to warm down than warm up. Not that i do either...
  19. Having been working with a Bearcat for a few months now i would like to emphasise GET A CHIPPER WITH ROLLERS. If you don`t, you have to cut every fork and deal with massive vibrations from pushing even small stuff through. And yes the shredder does clog. Get a chipper!!
  20. I`m looking for work around Stroud. I have five years climbing experience. My reductions and rigging need some practice but basically i can do most stuff. Subcontractor basis prefered but i`ll consider anything. Ali 07818 078959
