  1. I have just bought a 48" alaskan mill from a very helpful Rob. I'm all excited about this. Now I've got a yew to plank for a very good customer, lets hope i get it right! And i also got my first sugihara normal cutting bar for a bit of bling appeal And a granberg precision sharpener too

  5. Theres one of the old ones that greenmech imported on e-bay; Greenmech GMR-100 Woodchipper | eBay Its 14hp though. I suspect Id have been dissapointed if id got the 14hp model as the machine has very little in the way of a flywheel.
  6. Do you mean the tp100 here - http://www.tpwoodchippers.co.uk/pdfs/TP_100_MOBILEeng.pdf I dont get it -why dont they make it with wheels on it? Seems a missed opportunity. The drum on that seems narrower than the greenmech and the hopper would be annoying like the timberwolf. I dont see why you'd go for that one. If i was going exotic and didnt mind a bit of extra width id go for this one; GardenMaster? Concept | TS Industrie R T Machinery - Welcome
  7. Well how about that for a post resurrection. I remember studying this thread in minute detail before purchasing my greenmech cs100. After buying it i wished i hadnt. Rivets fell off, bolts sheared that were holding the blades on, it went through belts like crazy, and other niggles. I rang them up and told them, they came and swapped the cassette for a new one as it was vibrating a lot, and its been a much better chipper since. Less belts, no things falling off. I WAS dissapointed with their customer service - ive calmed down since - but more so that of their dealer. In all honesty if their dealer hadnt have been how he was id have looked on the bright side of greenmech itself a lot easier. As time has passed and my temperature cooled i can see it from the greenmech side as well as my own. I was used to the timberwolf i had which was built like a tank and i wasnt used to having to tighten belts so i was slightly affronted having to tighten them regularly after not doing so with my timberwolf once for a year and a half! (Greenmech messed up because you cant tighten the belt all the way to the stopper or even close due to the belt housing being too tight which is a pain. The demo machine was smoking like crazy because of this). If i could have bought from F R jones like i originally wanted to im sure things would have been sweet. Would i have bought Jo beau this time around? Well, id have taken up their dealers offer of a trip to the jo beau factory in europeland (Yes, really - the new dealer had just taken over and pushed the boat out for me) to see the m300/400/500, and i just might have plumped for the m500. The greenmechs eject spout is bloody good and high, i think thats where the jo beau might fall down. But th m500's opening is huge and goes straight down the side, narrowing a bit up and down at the end, i suspect it would be unbeatable for twisty stuff. But for the price difference, a cs100 from fr jones would be tough to beat. It makes me money, saves me time and sweat, and doesnt cost much as far as these things go. Any questions, ask away.
  8. As per the title really! It struck me that given the standard knot loses approx 30% of the strength of the rope, and the strength loss is to do with the tightness of the bends (And figure of 8 is good because they aren't tight in the first place), does it not make sense to use a double figure of 8, bunny ears style (see below) To either make the end of the rope closer in strength to the main length, or perhaps even exceed it as It would be doubled up? Figure 8 Double Loop | How to tie the Figure 8 Double Loop | Climbing Knots If I was to use this doubled up knot would it make sense to use each of the loops separately? I suspect using them together would be the better choice, but one could put a shackle on each and use them separately for different ends of the log.
  9. Had the same question, and just came accross a comprehensive excel spreadsheet which gives the answer. I was going to upload it, but it is twice the permitted size for the forum so it wont let me. Anyone know a way i can get around that to post it? Failing that, follow this link and download it yourself; Moisture content
  10. OK, I had the 100 on trial today. Hilarious! first thing, my lad put a branch in there. First branch of the day. only about 2.5 inch. BANG! SCREECH! Smoke everywhere. Haha! Dealers face fell but TBH, i laughed my ass off! dealer said "its never done that before" i said "yeah, youve never employed jeff before". i think ill call him Jeff the destroyer from now on. We ended up blocking it about 5 times, admittedly i was trying about 3 of those times, but again it choked on a small branch when i wasnt expecting it. Richard the dealer assured me it was to do with the belts not being tight enough, and the jockey wheel (or whatever the tightning wheel is called) already being at maximum stretch. But still, dissapointing. The machine needs a flywheel between the belt and the blade so you dont have to nurse it so much, if it did it would be perfect. Its 4" limit seems to be a maximum limit? Whereas the timberwolfs 3" limit seems to be more of a guidline. Its absurd when you think the Greenmech has 40% more power. There would surely be no point in buying the 14hp version. Nonetheless, its a cracker when it comes to gnarly twist stuff. I kept putting absurdly entwined conifer stuff in there, and can honestly say it impressed me more than i was hoping in that regard. Such a change from the timberwolf. snedding will be largely a thing of the past, and it has a hell of a pull on it even without feed rollers. Decisions, decisions. He's gonna send me a price and we will take it from there.
  11. Apbell, i would but i dont have a copy on this computer. Theo, when it blocks, is it a pain to sort out?
  12. Yes thats right, greenmech. Well Chelmsford grass machinery actually. And my van is pretty hard to miss! most people assume im a franchise and have several vans Im pretty close to making a purchase decision one way or the other, had pretty much decided to go new but then remembered this chipper on this thread.
  13. Two for the price of one, not bad Thats a shiny trailer you got there Stephen. Now i had in mind getting a drop side ifor or similar, to replace my horrid looking 50 pound special, so i can get a stumpy on there in the future and had decided against going for the greenmech trailer if i bought new. But, for all that, a little voice in my head was whispering "But its shiny, its shiny!" as i was thinking about it today Czhey, I've already rung and sorted the demo for sometime soon so shouldnt need to play with yours but thanks for the consideration on that one. I see your on the herts essex border like me. Whats your company? What ive got is a timberwolf 13/75g, owned by 1 before me (A climbing instructer). I couldnt get over how pristine it was when i bought it! all stickers spot on etc, just one bit of the 'roll cage' a bit bent round the back of the chipper, which ive had timberwolf guy fix. He said he basically never used it and it looked like that, ran sweet. Since then ive had it serviced once properly by an actual timberwolf engineer, and just recently by my normal grease monkeys, got a clean bill of health from both, wont get another sharpen out of the blade on it at the moment though and just a couple out of the other one. Guy i bought it off tells me the 2 blades i got with it were the original blades. It doesnt look pristine anymore though as its been my workhorse. Owner operator, apart from wood only one set of keys has gone through it and stickers arent pristine anymore, i gotta admit to using the thick bar at the top of the funnel to smash forks up occasionally angry gorrilla style instead of firing up the chainsaw so there is a dent there now, and ive left it at customers backgardens i think twice, both times bagged up and tied down of course. Reason i bring it up is i paid 1150 about 2ish years ago, was going to flog it for 1100 ish on ebay but if i choose to buy from one of you 2 id be real happy to give you that for 1000 off - and on that note, whats the asking prices? feel free to PM me. Thanks for your time.
