  1. I like this version for random oddness. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TQSkvMSNOs]YouTube - Old Man Bus Fight Keyboard Cat[/ame]
  2. So it was you making all that noise this morning!!!
  3. All round protection is advised for climbers and occasional users. As a groundsman doing C3 30 or 31 front protection is fine and is cooler in the summer. If you are intending to do climbing tickets its worth getting all round protection. http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg317.pdf is a good place to start.
  4. I think you need to talk to him. If your contract is being breached then that could be a problem and you don`t want to be forced into using your holiday. However, as Andy says, times are tough and the weather has been bad. If he`s a good employer (hard to find sometimes) then it`s worth a bit of compromise.
  5. Sounds like he`s got a small head! I don`t know if its acceptable to wear a hat? not much good in the summer. Failing that sounds like he needs a different lid.
  6. Sure as long as is not huge loads and you anticipated how one branch will break off when its side loaded by another. Great for over sensative targets.
  7. You might speculate though that if the bus had not hit the tree, it may well have hit the person anyway. Obviously the details are not very clear. I assume the very reason this type of thing is reported is because it is very unusaul. You could also say that the only way to ensure this did not happen again was doing pull test on all roadside trees, not really practical, nor foolproof. Either way if a vehicle impacts something by the road that thing will either be a person (not good), or it will bend (good for the driver, not good for the person behind the sign), or it will not bend (not so good for the driver, better for the person behind) I suppose we could just wrap everyone and everything in cotton wool.
  8. Theres some splendid trees:thumbup: You acn`t beat an ancient Yew in my opinion.
  9. I normally climb with a 70kn steel krab and webbing strop. The webbing strop is ofter useful but the reason is when rigging smallish stuff you can just attach the strop to the branch and the krab, clip it onto your lowering line and away you go. Its still pretty fast, both for climber and groundy.
  10. I does seem strange, if a bus hit a lamp post and the lamp post hit a person you might conclude that the bus was the cause not the lamp post.
  11. Then of course, with small stuff, you can use a few slings and hence cut two or three pieces in on lower.
  12. Contact the ISA about study guides. I had to wait a few months to get mine as they come from the US. I think Honey Brothers stock them also. Otherwise someone on here may have one they don`t need. Welcome to the forum.

  14. With furniture you cleave the wood into sections. As the wood dries it shrinks alot one direction more than the other (which is why wood splits) but as the wood has already been split it can shrink. For example a piece of wood turned round will become slightly oval when dried. This is very useful and enables greenwood funiture to hold itself together ie no nails or glue. Did that make sense?
  15. Someone i know has a Quickchip which looks almost identical to that except the engine is covered
  16. I do hope you`re not using non NPTC grass cutters:sneaky2:
  17. ...and remember to get a new chain for your cs30 assesment. Its much easier to get properly sharp than an old half worn one.
  18. So is this lot current? http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roads/tss/tsmanual/tsmchap8part1.pdf http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roads/tss/tsmanual/tsmchap8part2.pdf
