  1. That`s an interesting idea to test the previous 3 increments with iodine. I`d not heard that before but. However, certainly not practical for Mrs Miggins Apple tree but an interesting thought for older trees.
  2. A friend of mine had an application for x% sent back because it didn`t specify volume, limb length etc.
  3. Print off a google map and then mark the trees on that, then scan it. That`s what i do.
  4. You need chainsaw protective boots. £150 would get you a pretty decent pair of boots. Don`t take this the wrong way but if you`re coming into contact with a moving chain you need to take a serious look at where you position yourself in relation to the saw. No chainsaw protection can stop a saw totally nor can it be relied on. Be careful.
  5. I`ve travelled for a hour there and an hour back for a couple of years but i wouldn`t want to do it all the time. It`s a waste of life. For one off`s or a week or so maybe further but basically the less travel the better. Depends how much you need the work.
  6. The classic for attaching saw to rope or rope to rope for passing them up to a climber. Also becomes a sheet bend or a bowline.
  7. Old faithful begginers and dinosaur knot. Easy to tie, same but can lock or slip a bit.
  8. This is the knot i use for tying in mid rope to create mechanical advantage. I find it easier to do than a carters hitch.
  9. good stopper knot. I`ve use it as a stopper on blakes hitch, bowline and timber hitch.
  10. Some strops are designed to break under loading.
  11. Looks interesting. I might pop over and have a look.
  12. I`m told if you eat a few cloves of garlic every day the oil seeps out your skin and that can help with mosquitos. You smell like garlic though.
  13. I find that mine started to slip after a while. I just got used to it, you have to tension them right. Have you had them long?
  14. Try and get in with a good company and learn how to do the job well.
  15. If you work alone you generally end up with a massive mess to clear up. It takes longer. If you get injured you will have problems and if you get your rope caught you can have a real problem getting down. Best avoided really.
  16. Stupsi explains the tree is agreat book. Don`t be put off by its simplicity:thumbup:
  17. If in any doubt get it shut down. Its free.
  18. There are very few people who would come across THAT and be so excited they would post it on a forum. :lol:You are truely dedicated to the cause.
  19. The personal accident insurance for tree surgeons to the right is very comprehensive. I have a policy with arbinsure but its not so good, it is cheaper though. It depends if you want payment from day 1 or not.
  20. I like the camera inside the felled tree:thumbup1:
