  1. I would say genuine. Bit hard to tell from those pictures.
  2. The blades need to be very sharp on those machines. If they are sharp the stuff will drop through a bit better, if you are having to push stuff in (not good for your hands) then they need sharpening. The shredder will blow out dust, makes good compost. The chipper should produce chip though.
  3. If I had the money for two tickets I would go primarily for Cs41, very useful ticket. The other one I would get is Cs32. Those would make you most employable. Cs 40 isn`t that useful IMO you can learn to prune on the job perfectly well.
  4. Try Complete Tree Care. Best of luck
  5. Gotta love the Gecko`s. I`ve been on them all week and they`re fine.
  6. I don`t know of a piece of Oak that big off hand. Will let you know if I hear of one.
  7. It was suggested that mellea has very thin rhizomorphs whilst thicker ones were suggested in this case to be galica, but that may be site specific. It would be interesting to get confirmation. As I recall, the suggestion was that galica is often present around healthy trees waiting for opportunities.
  8. David, would you say that was A. mellea or galica? At the recent forest health days done by thr FC they had a number of trees airspaded and found A. galica on most of them.
  9. There are plenty of bosses who don`t climb. The public liability should cover you and any employees you have including self employed freelancers. Sub contractors insurance is different, you don`t need that although many policies come with bona fide sub contractors insurance. Phone around, Trust, Arbninsure and others are all good. NFU can vary office to office, try another NFU office.
  10. Well, I think if you can convey that enthusiasm on paper it will be infectious. Look at how Brian Cox (love him or hate him) has made physics more popular, a few progams with him have been far more valuable than 1000 dull lectures. If the same can be done for trees, nature, whatever then then that`s a good think......hmmm "Wonders of the ecosystem".... I hope you see it through.
  11. Don`t push yourself too hard, learn to trust your equiptment. I think even experienced climbers look down once in a while and think "mm that`s a long way", it`s called being rational, it keeps you safe.
  12. I think the the key approach is to take the attitude of David Attenborough, to increase awareness and appreciation of nature by demonstrating it`s beauty to the wider public. This is something that a number of people already do on this forum and although this is to a limited audience it`s effects are potent. Remember Tony there are far more people inspired by your posts and those of others than actually reply.
  13. If you have time on your hands then dropping flyers does bring the work in. If you have the money to get decent flyers made up then do so. If you don`t take some time and do them yourself, experiment with formats. Most people will read whatever is largest ie TREE SURGERY or HEDGE TRIMMING or whatever and then either bin it or keep it. 1 - 2% sounds reasonable to me. I was supprised at the number of people who actually kept the first, dodgy hand cut flyers I made but they were cheap and quite effective. Paid advertising is okay if you have the money to invest but you inevitably waste money trying out different ads. If you have that money then happy days but if not you have nothing to loose. I got most of my work from flyering for the first 2 years of buisness. This was despite advice on hear deriding flyering as cowboyish or amaturish. Cheap village news letters can also be good. Never believe a cold call salesman! Best of Luck
  14. Although the website is good I would think it will need proper Google ranking to be worth anything much. However, to the right person it may be worth a bit.
  15. I found this program really interesting. Not for the squeemish or those eating dinner. BBC iPlayer - After Life: The Strange Science of Decay
  16. Try burning the top with a flame, If it melts a bit then on Oak resinacium would be the most likely.
  17. snap! I`d second about getting the measures right.
  18. If the saw runs out of fuel try starting it as from a cold start and prime it if it has a primer. When the fuel runs out there is no more fuel in the system so doing a cold start help get fuel back into the engine. I hope that is helpful. You may also find that you flooded the system by mistake trying to start it so let it sit for a bit first.
  19. I take it they`re not expecting thousands of people then.
  20. I can`t see an option to book a place, do we just turn up?
  21. I normally get an ordinary letter of acknowledgement.
