  1. Eh? Surely Cornwall is not as remote as Mars! I would have thought that even from Cornwall you could order Aspen by letter; telephone or internet and then have it delivered by post; courier or transportation logistics company? Or are you implying that if you can't walk into a store at the end of your street and purchase the item over the counter, then you're not interested?
  2. Is that anywhere near Pubis Mons or am I just being vulva?
  3. After Pic.3 I thought you would be in for it from the PPE H&S police, but instead you were pounced on by the anorak tree spotting and tractor spotter brigade......
  4. Oh yes, both the quick reply and the advanced version have an integrated spell checker. But I would'nt point it out to anyone, they might become a tad over sensitive and think you were bullying them!
  5. Now there's a can of worms opened..... Good job you did'nt go the whole hog and ask about boots and pants as well. Seriously though as advised by the other members its a very personal choice, whats fit for goose could be a ganders instrument of torture! You need to look at and if possible try as many as you can really to find one that suits you. But as a nice middle of the road option for a newbie climber, you could'nt go far wrong with something like the Komet Butterfly. Great little harness, resonably priced; light; functional. I've climbed on one for a while and loved it, but have recently upgraded to a Skylotec Kolibri.
  6. Not the same at all I'm afraid, in fact all very different indeed. Woodchip: Arboricultural arisings that have been passed through a chipper! Barkchip: Bark stripped from softwoods (usually) which have been harvested during forestry operations and subsequently chipped. Mulch: Almost anything that covers the soil will control weeds to some extent, and in the world of horticulture, mulch can be almost anything, from plastic sheeting to a “living mulch” such as clover. In a garden context, mulch is usually a layer of some kind of organic material used to retain moisture and surpress weeds. Such as woodchip; barkchip; straw; manure; grass clippings; compost etc. The Best Stuff: Hardwood, either deadwood or wood cut in the winter, so it has no green material and less moisture, especially if its for immediate use. Next best: Would be hardwood cut and chipped when it was in leaf. But if used as a mulch this should be spread thinly (0-2 inches) or ideally stored and if possible turned for 6 months or more as fresh chippings will extract large amounts of nitorgen from the soil to kick start its decomposition processes. The Worst: Conifer! Needs to be well rotted before it fit for owt!
  7. Ha ha ha haa. I was going to say the same thing, before woody beat me to it. Aye 13mm rope with a 13mm split tail tied using a blakes hitch! Old skool rules Gadgets, we don't need no steeenking gadgets! Mind you I've just been thrust into the 21st century, bought a new rope today, Yale Imori, can't use a bloomin 13mm split tail with that so I'm told, so I've also just had to buy a 10mm prussik! Oooh shouldav stuck to the XTC.... gonna have to a lie down........
  8. Its a Leylandii, so LOTS of petrol and a match, then fell charred stem, grind out stump and replant with a nice new non-conifer species of tree.
  9. This is an excert from the NHS direct website regarding Tetanus vaccinations, which hopefully should clarify the situation. If you've had 5 or more shots, you should'nt need any more for the rest of your natural, unless you go some far flung cesspit part of the world where primary health care is not an option! "The full course of the tetanus vaccine consists of five doses. The primary course consists of three injections, which provide protection against the infection for a number of years. The fourth and fifth doses are booster doses, which help maintain protection. After the fifth dose, immunity remains for life and further boosters are not usually required, unless there is doubt about a person’s vaccination history or you are travelling to a remote area of the world where treatment for a tetanus infection may not be readily available." Here's the link should you want to know more! http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/Tetanus/Pages/Introduction.aspx
  10. So nearly 300 views and yet only 3 responses, with the MS200T leading ahead of the MS201T by 2:1 So either the 201 was over-hyped and is nothing to write home about, or only 3 AT members will admit to owning one, and two of those wish they did'nt. Looks like I'll be treating myself to a new tried & trusted 200 this time around then. My thanks to those that took the time to add their input.
  11. Defo BBC Radio 2. Pretty sure it was on the Simon Mayo drivetime show which you should be able to listen to again on the i-Player. Sorry can't remember which day, but would have been between 17:20 - 17:40. If it was previously covered on countryfile (I missed it!) then you should be able to find that on BBC i-Player also. Hope this helps.
  12. Hi Rob, Did'nt know that "Next" did saw pants! Tried and tested, I've just bought a new pair of Hi-Flex to replace my old ones. I just can't justify in my own heed, the cost of a pair of stretch's. To be fair though I did'nt really look at anything else, with maybe the exception of a pair of Steins, which looked OK but being so new had no pedigree, and I did'nt fancy being a test guinea pig! All the best.
  13. Well at least the elk was'nt getting leery once drunk and running around getting all arsey and looking for someone to sting. Just as well really I'd expect getting "pricked" by an elk would smart a bit......
  14. OK. So its been a few months since the much anticipated new MS201T was launched into the world of arboriculture. I now find myself in the market for a replacement top handled saw to replace my tired old MS200T. Does the 201 live up to the hype, is it a better saw, a lighter saw, a nice saw to use, a saw fit for purpose? Should I spend my hard earned on one myself or should I replace like for like and stick to the tried and trusted work horse and simply buy a new 200? Your thoughts much appreciated.
  15. Erm... is the guy in the red helmet walking round the back of the tree in a trench? Or is the guy in the blue helmet a giant?
  16. Whilst the sad demise of this young fellow through such tragic circumstances must be a great loss to the family and friends of the individual concerned.... is it not a greater shame that once again we cannot accept that such events have occured simply due to some unforseen unfortunate "accident" and it was just unlucky that he was in the wrong place wrong time when the tree failed during high winds? Why does it have to resort to a court case to see if anyone was negligent or at fault. How, when & why did a random unforseen unavoidable accident occuring become a politically incorrect event that had to be investigated at great cost because surely someone somewhere was negligently guilty of making the accident happen in the first place? It could of been an act of god, but then I read that he was a committed christian, as an atheist there are so many place I could go...... but I just know how thin the ice would be down this tangent with the politically correct god police...........
  17. The list of safe & unsafe woods seems to only be pertinent to the safety of birds (website was a bit of a giveaway). Since we were discussing the safety of wood in manufacture of chopping boards (for human food prepartion) not a bird table (bird food presentation) it probably is'nt relevant.
  18. Having had the opportunity and privilege of working in Vienna on a couple of occasions for "Damo" last year I would'nt hesitate to recommend this fantastic opportunity to anyone else reading this and Damian's other threads on this subject, who might be tempted to give it a go. Right from the start, from my initial contact the assistance and support offered by "Damo" was impeccable, the flight tickets were arranged, there was a meet and greet at the airport, and accommodation were all provided for. Vienna has to be one of the most beautiful must see European capitals, both historically cultural and vibrantly modern. The work was interesting and varied in and around the city. The trees themselves are in another dimension with some fantastic specimens that really pushed you to your limits and then beyond. So if you are an experienced climber, looking for a challenge, love pushing your personal limits in really big trees, with a great work hard play hard attitude then I would heartily recommend that you get in touch with Damian and start packing your bags. It’s a decision that I’m sure you won’t regret.
  19. Bloomin 'eck Hama it would have been easier to spot the "Colonel" cowering defiantely in his underground bunker in Tripoli on Google Earth, then it was to "spot" the funghi in youir first photo. Your second photo might have given some a better fighting chance!
  20. As far as I'm aware there is nothing within Greater Manchester, but if you have transport then these places may be able to help. Millhouse Training, Skelmersdale, Lancs Myerscough College, Preston, Lancs T K Forestry, Holmfirth, West York
  21. Yep, what he said. Plus if your post is anything to go by, check your CV's spelling and grammer. Run it through the spell checker of whatever application you used to write it. First impressions, last!
  22. Ditto what County4X4 says. I also have a Ford code generator downloaded off the net. If you can post the 7 digit serial no. off the radio, then one of us will be able to post you the relevant unlock code mate.
  23. The only way to defeat the PC brigade is to refuse to adopt their ideology and terminology. A faggot of wood has been a faggot of wood for centuries if not millenia, let it remain so. As I'm sure the wood will not feel the least bit offended.
  24. In all seriousness, if you see owt like this, you should at least report it to Ebay. Whilst it may look like an obvious fake to those in the know, there be some poor sap out there prepared to fork out their hard earned for a quality product not realising they are acquiring a "bag o'shite". It could be that the seller got burnt when he bought it and is trying to get rid and recoup his losses once he realised he'd been stung. Nevertheless, if its not a Stihl, then you can't say it is.
