  1. This could be a brilliant idea for a "special marquee tent" at the next arb show campsite! Bring your own, baby oil, faulty saws and glowsticks ladies and germs... lets get ready to throw some shapes and paaaaaartay!
  2. Hi apexarb, Stoke is not too far for me. Is you friend located here on Arbtalk or have you got a contact no. for him?
  3. Many thanks for big up/recommendation chaps. It is very much appreciated. Oi Digga wot u doin with me bird.
  4. Thanks for the offer John. Was kinda hoping for something closer for a fast turnaround so we could hopefully empty the chip and then have the space to clear the logs and finish the job the same day. I might have a possible interest from some allotments in Salford.
  5. Hi folks, Have a job on Thursday 30th June up near Heaton Park in Blackley area of North Manchester. Anyone know of anywhere local that will take chip and logs from a Syc'y/Ash fell? Many thanks in anticipation.
  6. Here you go Mark, this place in Wigan can supply in containers from 5l up to 1000l. Hope this helps. Ellsey's Vinegar Products, Bulk Vinegars, Vinegar Manufacture, Vinegar Brewing, Bespoke Vinegars, Organic Vinegars, Premium Vinegars, Standard Vinegars
  7. Hello and welcome, thanks for being lured in. Ok so you have'nt won a huge cash prize which means you can sell everything including the wife and kids and then runaway and retire on your own secluded island in the caribbean. But you could be onto a winner if you're on the lookout for a competent hardworking reliable freelance climber. Hi there.... All the usual basic NPTC tickets, plus CS47 (MEWP); PTS; first responder 1st Aid and pre-97 driving licence. All aspects of treework undertaken including ground works, site clearances. Based in NW England, but will happily travel further affield if you can offer 3 days or more work to make it worthwhile. Own PPE, climbing kit, saws (MS200/361) & GSOH. If I can be of any service please PM me your contact number and I'll call you back just as soon as I can. Thanks for looking, all the best, Rick.
  8. I'll 2nd Cotoneaster frigidus the Himalayan Tree Cotoneaster. Introduced from the... erm Himalayas around 1824. Flowers will yield bright red berries which will stay on until following spring. These will attract wood pidgeons, blackbirds and thrushes during harsh cold snaps when they can't find anything else to eat. Remaining berries then tend to all drop simultaneously as new leaf buds start to swell and open around end April beggining of May
  9. Whoa... freaky! Got any vids of them in action. Fool... you do realise that showing us a sniff of some new shiny equipment, shiny tool, kind of device type thingy you've already derailed your own post.
  10. A location would also be handy. £100k turnover round a chav estate in Essex (though unlikely) would'nt have the same growth potential as £100k turnover in a Surrey stockbroker belt. A location will also help potential buyers get a rough idea of insurance costs, as well as growth potential. Existing tree firms in neighbouring areas looking to expand may be tempted to pay a little bit more for a ready made customer base. However, if there is a lot of competition near you then this might have a negative impact on your valuation. Does selling the business & kit, include vehicles/chipper and/or a yard with/without storage, security. Is there a yard full of years worth of logs that might be tempting to someone either looking to getting into wood fuel or compliment an existing business. Try to highlight as much as possible anything that could add value (not necessarily remunerative) or scope to grow and expand the existing business. Without intending to appear to insult your employee you might also like to take into account their experience and abilities as a calculable asset to the business. Someone with years of experience and all the tickets plus an arb/forestry related qualification & a towable driving licence is going to be more of an asset than school leaver brash monkey whose been with you three months, has no tickets, no driving licence and is unable to spell their own name or pull start a chainsaw without supervision. Just my two pennarth' worth mate. Hope this helps. All the best, & good luck with your new opportunity.
  11. Is it time for all climbers to pack up their ropes and harnesses? Came across this article in todays issue of the Metro newspaper! Meet Treebot, the robot that can climb trees | Metro.co.uk Quote "its inventors hope it could one day be used to help humans who have to scale tall trees for dangerous tasks." Might be handy for setting your rope up in the canopy or skinnying up something thats a bit too whippy to climb, but at 1kg and only capable of carry a load of upto 1.5kg, it might be sometime before its wielding an MS200 and chasing us out of a job. Hopefully.
  12. Hmmmm, I can understand your confusion Gareth, the original post is'nt immediately clear until you read it through slowly a couple of times, and then you realise that he's looking for work not offering I'm afraid. Better luck next time chap.
  13. There has been a recent post on this subject on the International Arborist Forum. Not sure how relevant the the suggested companies are in relation to being based in or around Munich. Could be worth your mate trying to get hold of poster Wolf whose out there in Deutschland. Here's a link: http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/international-arborist-forum/28384-work-germany.html Good luck to him with the move, and ask him to post his experiences up here on AT.
  14. For all work on the railways you must have PTS cert. (Personal Track Safety) To do your PTS you must be sponsored by a company/contractor who is already contracted to carry out work on the railways. For work on building sites in most instances you may need a CSCS card. (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) You can apply for this yourself, registration costs around £30, plus about £15 to take the pre-requisite H & S test.
  15. I wear a standard pair of Buckingham spikes, leather straps and all.... with my HPP's with no problems.
  16. Hi mate, sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with Haix, which model were they? Do any search on this site, and you will find an overwhelming majority in favour of Haix. The Protector Pro and the Extreme are both excellent Haix favourites, though probably more of a climbers boot than a groundies. But the "Blue Ridge", now these were a bit raggedy, prone to fall apart within about 6 mths and probably did'nt do the marque any favours at all.
  17. I guess it all depends on what your buying and where you're buying it from. If its from the EU then its more than likely it will be CE certified. If its from the States then it will probably be ANSI certified. The ANSI standards are as good as CE standards. A few years ago I bought a bought a Buckingham Versatile harness from Sherrill's in the states. No CE marking but was ANSI certified, and I never had a problem having it passed at a LOLER inspection. Mind you I weigh about 10 stone soaking wet, and as the inspector said to me if its strong enough to support a lard arsed burger snaffling yank (no offence intended to our American cousins ) then it would support my skinny ass all day long. Of course the real irony is that it can have all the certificates in the world, but the item and the material its constructed from was probably all cobbled together in some third world sweat shop. So fingers crossed that that life saving piece of kit your trusting your life on, on tomorrows job was'nt assembled after Miss Wang; or Mr Yip; or schollboy boy Ranjeev Patel had a bad day at work!
  18. Ask the bloke whose touching up your wifes body work if he'll touch up your cars body work afterwards. Giving you time to get back in the house to finish the washing up; hoovering; looking after the kids and wasting more precious hours of your life on Arbtalk.
  19. Can it be sorted out? Surely it must be riddled with honey fungus by now!
  20. Following pictures taken on large section of deadwood at the base of a beech. I believe that the young developing bracket is G.australe, but not sure what the black knobbly stuff is though (except that it erm... black; knobbly; hard and brittle! ). Thought at first it might have been Daldinia concentrica, but I'm sure its not that now. Could it be Diatrype disciformis?
  21. This has been an issue with NPTC now for many years. I took my MEWP ticket in June 2007 and did'nt get my card until Jan 2008, so two months is nothing. You should have got a receipt signed by your assessor the day you passed your assessment, keep that safe and its all the proof you need until you get your official card (probably sometime this autumn!!). Why are these public bodies that organise these kind of things always so apparently pitifully poor at organising these kind of things? This situation has been ongoing for years and yet nobody at NPTC seems able or willing to do anything about it. I know its not a life or death situation but how can any organisation be so continuously unproductive and inefficient and still survive unapposed and unchanged? The world is run by muppets! Sorry for derail rant.....
  22. Dear All, I have worked with nth87 on a number of occasions and I can confirm that he is very competent and capable climber, who is also happy to readily get stuck in with any groundworks as well. A great bloke to get on with, I would have no hesitation in recommending him to any potential employer as I feel he would be a great asset to any organisation on a short or long term basis.
  23. Hmmm, he could! Or maybe you could PM him with YOUR telephone number and attach a copy of YOUR CV.
