  1. Hi Peeps, Considering purchasing myself a new set of wheels. Have seen online a decent looking Honda Civic 1.6 VTEC Sport. Was keen on going out to give a once over, but got put off when I rang the dealer to check a few details and was informed that the mileage was 115k. The car is almost exactly 7 yr old on a 54 plate. 115K on 7 yr old car seems a bit steep, it works out on avg. 16.5K per annum. I don't know the history, but the dealer claims it has a FSH, although he could'nt confirm if they had all been done by a Honda garage. Question is, just how reliable would a high miler Honda be? Are they bomb proof if its been looked after properly, or is it best to avoid............? Any anecdotal stories, pros & cons, that you can advise to help me decide if its worth pursuing further would be gratefully received. Many thanks. Tricky
  2. Checked into hold luggage..... no problemo at all. Simples!!
  3. Ditto. Same, same, all day long. Iive used Yale XTC for similar length of time and its a rope that has never let me down. I'm also using my old rope as a secondary lowering line and still feel its got plenty of life left!
  4. Oooh, your brave posting yet another "which pair of chainsaws pants are the bestest". Please don't feel offended if and when some other less patient/tolerant memebers get round to answering this and give you a bit of a roasting.... it crops ups sooooooooo often. The answer to your quest is that you will never get a straight answer. There is no ultimate must have super chainsaw pants. Everyone is different, with different tastes, styles, needs, budget, and consequently everyone else will give you differeing advice. For me, I use Stihl Hi-Flex (SHFx). My last 3 pairs were SHFx and my next 3 pairs will probably be SHFx. There comfy straight out of the box, resonably priced, do as described on the tin. I'm happy with them, and although only "Class 1" I still have both my legs and other dangly bits intact.
  5. Yeah. Curiously I really miss the large block in the centre of the screen that displayed all the new/latest posts scrolling through. Without it, something feels to be missing from life! Maybe I should just get out more.....
  6. Still getting the forum pages at the moment. Is the update still pending?
  7. I don't mean to "P" on your chips mate, but having only just gained your CS38, needing to refresh your CS30/31 and having no CS39, I think the last thing you need to worry about is if and when you get your chipper. Do you actually have any experience, on the tools and in arboriculture? Because having all the gear and no idea is not really the best substitute for working in this game either on your own or as a casual subbie for another company. Whilst you ambition and resourcefulness should be applauded, you would better seeking a position with an already establish arb company and gain some valuable work experience IMHO. It took me between 2-4 years to become a confident/competent climber, and during that time it included an awful lot of me pulling my tripe out in groundying roles to boot. Just remember, that so far your "training courses" have taught you how to pass a basic competentcy test. Now doing the job is a whole new different level, and it can take months before you become more of a help than a hinderance. And just for future reference, the best place to place an ad for seeking work, would be in the Employment Section. I wish you the best of luck.
  8. To quote Mr. Burns : "Excellent"
  9. Dismantled a big ugly Ash last week, which was as wide as it was tall, spread over three gardens, a set of garages, numerous sheds and caravan. Two days entertainment for the customer and his neighbours earned me and my mate (apbell) a bottle of Scotch each. Which was nice!
  10. Survey Done. But what have I done it for? What are you hoping to acheive?
  11. Try here mate, Booking a test - ConstructionSkills follow the book online link. If you are a bit brighter than your average 1w bulb with an ounce of common sense about yer, you should be able to pass with out spending more of your hard earned on revision materials. Booked mine on line and took the test blind early last month no bother and passed 1st time! Best of Luck
  12. Knuckle fine. No feedback yet re big job, was supposed to call me this afty but didne! If you pm me an e-myther I can email them back to you. Ya Geordie mumbler you.....

  13. To be classed as valid the law as it currently stands, states that Union Ballots need only to have a minimum turnout of 25% of those who are eligible to vote. How ever the government is currently considering bringing in legislation to change this to 50%. ERGO: Currently, if the minimum no. required (25%), turned out to vote and voted in favour by 50.1% then potentially a motion could be carried with less than 13% of those who are eligible, actually bothering to vote. Sadly despite centuries if not millenia of universal struggle for a right and just society for all, it would appear increasingly that the idea of democracy is becoming a minority sport.
  14. I would have to go along with ELG, she was poorly advised by her instructor not by the retailer. If you consider the potential number of online orders received by retailers, do you honestly expect them to ring every customer before despatching their order to interrogate them to ensure that they are actually ordering the right product for its intended use?
  15. Doh! I'll get me coat........
  16. Nope sorry, can't seem to see any pictures of a piece of costline with an apparently dead beach to be able to profer a speculative answer as to what killed it! However, the Beech tree in your photographs does appear to have been infected with Meripilus giganteusl
  17. Ha ha. Fair play, but pointless. There is already a spell checker in both the quick and advanced reply sections, but these appear to be rarely, if ever used! It would appear the ignorant are blissfully prepared to remain so. It seems to be a sad and tragic irony that as our technology gets smarter, future generations appear destined to become dumber.
  18. Yeah and push up everyone else's insurance up by another 40% next year! Unless you are genuinely injured, this is deplorable advice in my opinion.
  19. Ha ha ha ha ha, thats a good one! If its cut, prepared and stacked neatly at roadside ready for pickup, the landowner might get something for the timber, but it wo'nt be a lot, pop's not much use for out, even firewood! Of course if he expects a professional to come out and cut it all down for him, working on the banks of a river, across a soggy field, chip and clear all the brash, process and transport all the timber with all the necessary staff and equipment required to make such a task safe and possible, and then actually pay him for the privilege. Then he's an idiot. Would he ask a builder to come and build him an extension in return for the topsoil he excavated out for the foundations?
  20. Sorry to be such a pedant...... 10' (feet) 6" (inches) at shoulder height! What are you, some kind of giant?
  21. You are not alone in having "thoughts" about the 201T. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/chainsaws/33555-ms201t-after-all-hype-worth.html Can't help answer about re-tuning a 201T, but in the comments from the above link, Steve Bullman mentions having retuned his, so you could ask him how he went about it.
  22. A few people have got them, and jury appears to be split 50/50 between the 200/201. More comments here:- http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/chainsaws/33555-ms201t-after-all-hype-worth.html
  23. The Trekker is a nice boot. Had a pair once, were very comfy from the get go and lasted ages. I think they are more of a groundy boot, but I climbed regularly in mine and they still performed outstandingly well.
  24. Ahhh, moist interesting. I too would be keen to learn about the possible causations of this malady, as my parents Bay appears to be similarly afflicted. Tis of course on t'other side of the Penines, but roughly speaking on the same latitude! Sooooooo... wotsit?
  25. I don't think any of the home nations have performed particularly well in this tournament, and I'm sure they will all be watching the final from the comfort of their own armchairs back home in GB.
