  1. I think the size/weight of subframe and stabilisers required will be your biggest problem.
  2. I've got lads that are even more 'Special' than that. Didn't even notice an entire blade and bolt had come off/disappeared (obviously that wouldn't have made any noise at all...). Even though the chipper was shaking like a sh***ing dog as the rotor was totally out of balance. They kept feeding it and only gave up when it wouldn't eat any more goat willow. Didn't think to open it up for a look (all have NPTC chipper qualifications, for what that is worth!). There was a passing comment 'That chipper is really blunt' when they returned to the yard at the end of the day. So their Christmas party fund is an extra £1500 down now, to pay for parts. So don't despair Bob, it's not just you that is a magnet for eejits lacking mechanical sympathy and common sense!
  3. This is a great video showing the requirement for nose weight, and the detrimental effect a poorly loaded trailer can have on the towing combination's stability. [ame] [/ame]
  4. Exactly as you describe. I'll try and post a vid. I agree - unlikely to fail in the real world. It has failed the LOLER inspection though, and another of a similar age is showing similar wear (but isn't popping open yet).
  5. Has anyone had issues with the buckles wearing and failing Loler inspections on these? We've just had one at 2 years old - the harness is otherwise immaculate but the waist buckle and one of the leg loop buckles pop open if twisted. The yellow plastic clips appear to have worn very quickly...
  6. Fair do's! What a beast!
  7. Bargain that - very productive machine.
  8. I think your Mog may be slightly smaller than the one with the big Bandit on the front (it's on 10 stud axles in the pics, which I think marks it out as some sort of heavy duty version). However, that PTO Bandit is MASSIVE - I would imagine there is no better chipping machine available to hang off the front of the Mog but I'm not sure how long said Mog would last carrying it about in that manner. I've got one of those chippers and you definitely know it's on the back of a regular agricultural tractor - I can pick it up on the front links but there is no way I'd want to drive down the road with it there! It's sketchy enough on the back (but I don't have the side shift headstock, which is imagine would make a big difference). Massive chipper though, the size of the hole between the rollers is ridiculous!!!
  9. Ha ha!
  10. I'd suggest an equivalent size/shape Silky and Samurai are much of a muchness as a similar size/shape Audi and Skoda. Not an R8/Rolls Royce compared to a Fiesta etc - that's not comparing apples with apples. They are both tools/vehicles capable of delivering the same output, of similar quality and longevity but aimed at different price points. Under the skin/marketing flannel they are largely identical.
  11. Same underneath, will both do the same job for as long as each other. One will cost less to keep on the road if always main dealer serviced as the manufacturer is wise to the fact that some people are happy to pay extra for good marketing.
  12. I'm pretty sure Audi and Skoda are exactly the same.

    Tidal.

I saw a program a few years ago where they were testing/experimenting with tidal turbines (similar set up to a wind turbine, but underwater). The testing was severely hampered at one of the locations by the presence of seals - an operative had to shut down the turbine every time a seal was seen nearby in case one got injured by the propeller... I'm all for living harmoniously with the flora and fauna around us but sometimes I think progress is hampered by overzealous environmentalists. If you ever get to travel through the Menai straits (the stretch of water separating Anglesea from the mainland) at pretty much any state of tide and experience the volume and shear power of moving water I can guarantee that you will be blown away by the incredible, unstoppable and predictable forces at work. The fact that we aren't harnessing this 100% reliable resource that surrounds us is idiocy personified IMO.
  14. It would need to be a minter and original for that price IMO. If it is and you keep it that way it can only go up in value though!
  15. That is mint!!!
  16. Look like excellent value IMO
  17. Good trailers those - we run tracked Greenmechs on them and they are pretty much made to measure! The chippers are 1.8 tonnes (ish) and we did have a problem with snapping leaf springs though. We have uprated them to dual leaves and the problem has now gone (I think the singles flex a bit too much, then the bump stop fails, and once that has gone the spring over-stretches and eventually snaps).
  18. I have just had a new Navara Tekna (top spec, all the bells and whistles etc, basically a similar version to what you are looking at) and nowhere in the owners manual or on the vehicle can I find reference to kerb weight/unladen weight. The brochure shows minimum kerb weight (with no driver but full tank of fuel) at 1998kg for this variant/spec. The V5 lists the mass in service as 2038kg (I can't imagine it is a coincidence that it sneaks in below 2040kg). I don't know what is or isn't included to give the two different figures, and don't know what the truck actually weights in reality either but will try and stick it on a weigh bridge before I fill it with all my crap and bolt a load of kit onto it!
  19. That's ace Eddie! Have you been felling with it too, or just clearing pre-felled stuff?
  20. Big Bandits are great, if you want something light I'd suggest looking elsewhere. Their smaller stuff isn't as good as the competition (I doubt they do anything that weighs less than 750kg to be honest).
  21. Quick bump on this - we are on site next week and could do with a local home for the logs and chip if possible? Cheers all.
  22. All I know is that my new Navara does at least 120...
  23. Easylife at Cuddington/Delamere are very good too.
  24. He's not wearing PPE but other than that he looks like he knows what he's doing. It's his house, his tree, nobody has employed him to do the job - I can't see a problem myself. If he chooses to not wear PPE that's up to him -I personally wouldn't use a chainsaw without but we live in a free country! In fact, it looks like he's better at felling than the lads who dropped the poplar across the road in the recent thread!...
  25. The 130 is usually plated 3500kg I think. With a light body it probably doesn't weigh much more than 2 tonne empty.
