  1. yep
  2. i wouldnt use saturn knives, was very dissapointed, actually appalled at their service. sent a pair of blades that had been incorrectly sharpened by a groundie-he made them the wrong angles, they just followed those angles-despite their blurb: 1 degree towards mayhem or 1 degree towards contentment?? Believe it or not when your blades are not re-sharpened to the required OEM spec you are putting your machine through unnecessary stresses that will have an impact on your machines performance and eventually the moving parts. At Saturn Machine Knives Limited we will ensure your blades are returned to the original specification - not to the angle that is currently destroying your machine!! they did not sharpen blades to OEM specification
  3. dbh wouldnt really work-a yew, mullberry, oak even would take hundreds of years to acheive 1m dbh, where as a chestnut, syc, pine, lime ect under/around 100?
  4. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/large-equipment/9110-self-propelled-chipper-shreks-wee-chipper.html sift through pages of banter, and its there
  5. isnt this what tpo's and tree officers are for? protecting our valuable trees? perhaps, there could be a scheme to add to the tree officers workload-where trees with tpo's are then categorised into 3 levels depending on the trees value-the lowest level needing only one tree officer/consultants permission, the highest needing 3 independant tree officers/consultants permission for works to be carried out but then thats more red tape!
  6. im with you now. im at waterbeach, just outside town, cant blame you for moving!
  7. ok, cant quite picture them. you based around saffron walden then?
  8. the limes on the green?

  10. well judged id say, with the landrover on it, it wasnt going to go back, only foward or as you judged, sideways because of side weight . . good job
  11. in which case good luck!
  12. so 500cube=approx 1000 dumpy bags (as an example)=10bags a day at £50 a pop=£500 a day, 2.5k week, 10k month, 50k oct-march give or take, correct? -20k wage, -5k return on initial investment=25k for overheads/buying in timber correct? say 2 cube to the green tonn= 250 tonn of wood needed a year say £35 tonne delivered 250x£35=£8750 sound right? if so the rest of youre money needs to be spent on wood now youre left with 16k for other overheads/running costs/tax sound correct give or take?
  13. hey larry! hi flex or stretch airs are the only decent contenders! glad youre getting some tree work and enjoying it all the best
  14. ok thats as basic as it gets, what i mean is this 1)how many dumpy bags will it take so acheive a 20k wage, after fuel, maintenance, breakdowns, insurance, advertising, tax, and outlay of wood has been paid? 2)how much seasond wood would you need to acheive the above? 3)how much have you currently got split, stacked and seasoning intime for start of sales in october next year? (the answer is point 2 minimum)
  15. err, shouldnt you have worked out a rough financial forecast, done youre homework before spending 22k??

  18. low on oil for a start, if its low the light will go out with revs. find out where its leaking, dont use it untill you do
  19. its easier than you think, with ours you have to reverse it in as if youre reversing round a corner, so you can see the chipper in a mirror, i do it on a daily basis with wither a transit,7.5tonner, or 18 tonner hiab lorry. aslong as the chippers wheels are in 1 man can easily do it. might need some lighting or good work lamps wired into youre reverse lights for when its dark though
  20. we have ramps, and just reverse it in
