  1. this week alone 3 new customers have phoned me asking for seasoned wood (any species as long as its dry) cos all 3 have had to have thier chimneys unbloked after burning fresh wood ........2 of them ash, 1 willow all sold by a competitor whom i even phoned and they told me you can burn ash fresh.........its a whole other story that one!!!
  2. I claim tax credits, and i am glad they are there too. all the comments on her for the women who have lost thier fellas and are now single mums, well what about us single dads who lost thier woman??? my misses was 28 when she died and i was left with a 5 yr old son to bring up on my own. The credits paid towards child care and a small living allowance so i could carry on working and not sit on my arse and claim dole. we had no insurance payout on the death and the mortgage was not paid off. She had paid tax all her working life, short though it was. I would quite happily give back all the money i have recieved if it brought her back so my son had his mother again!!!! yes i still claim and will continue to.............. but i do think some people do take the p.. with what they get away with
  3. yr hyn y uffern gwaedlyd i chi i gyd yn mynd ymlaen am, dim ond un iaith y dylech chi i gyd yn siarad ac nid yw'n hwn yn un
  4. insured with NFU................. as above on tractor insurance whose tractor you using to run it???? get them to insure it oh.... whole firewood business is insured with NFU including stock, get them to come round and do an assessment and insist they talk to thier underwriters. You may have to give them your home and vehicle insurance too though. i got everything with them and i have no bother at all
  5. whats a joiners log????
  6. deffinatly follow the above i got a hunter, and had the room full of smoke and a smell for 2 days, after that all was fine
  7. toungue in cheek and a good argument setler/agrivator is the following statement seasoned = 3 months.....dried for a season=seasoned 4 seasons in year 12 months in a year 12 months divided by 4 seasons = 3 months.. one season or seasoned.... had salt and pepper added (as asked by a customer) seasoned to me means when it is dry to a suitable MC
  8. i've been promoting it for years( British softwood ), there is plenty of wood in this country, we just made the mistake of telling the public years ago it was wrong to cut down trees as they produce our oxygen. the result has been the rich public do gooders buying up pockets of woodlands for thier amenity value and not letting them be worked and only allowing in the birds and insects cos its all the food cycle once again we need a radical re-education of the woodland and tree ethical management
  9. i'm sure CW wont mind, but it is good to see the bulk bags not measuring up to the m3 size, although i dont know anyone who sells a cubic meter "bulk" bag.(even though i have cubic meter vented bags myself) i know of plenty who sell a cubic meter, or a bulk bag. does anyone else find this a bit confusing/misleading?? especially when they sell as 1.2m3 Compare the market - Kiln Dried Logs, Seasoned Logs - Certainly Wood
  10. did'nt Ahmir Khan win gold in boxing for britain in the previous olympics???? Khan...... now is that a celtic name or saxon???
  11. my mate went over to play bowls for the wales team and came fourth. it dont snow in Jamaica either but they have a bobsleigh team!!! sport is sport no matter where it is played, or whom it is against
  12. i was like you, asking these silly questions too, nothing wrong with that IMO it is better to have tried and failed, than to have never tried at all !!!!! self employed i pay less tax and ni... i have more stress when money dont come in i have more time and freedom with the wife and kids, but less chance of getting a mortgage save a load of money up before you do it, try to buy all your equipment before you jump too, advertise before hand too make sure you have atleast enough money to live for 3-6 months if you can you will do the crap jobs, but these become less and less the longer you work i charge £100 a day to subbie for arbs, i may only do firewood as my business, but i did arb work for 12 yrs and have loads of experiance and a rep for just getting the job done ( i'd rather just do firewood now) have a look at what expenses you can put through the books too, this can sometimes make up for the low wage you will have to pay yourself good luck
  13. replayed the last one 5 times, soo funny, but that had to hurt
  14. £1 per mile roughly, fuel aint free no more, max of £25 for that delivery, depends on wether you want the sale and the time lost in the delivery all i can say to that is WOW!!!!!!!! do you sleep in greased up sheets to help you get out of bed in the morning too?????
  15. i used to offer this service, and one day i turned up at a punters house to give a quote, saw the log pile, which was told was all uniform rings....they were not told him £25 per hour to cut and split them where they are him... sorry how much?? me... £25 per hour, covers my travel, fuel machinery and time him... look mate i pay my computer engineer £30 per hour to fix my computer, he has a skill, you do not!! That is a ridiculous amount to charge for someone who just breaks up wood!! me... do it your self then mate with an axe, when your back is broken in two give me a ring and i'll come back and give you another quote. never heard off him again the "richard head" that was 3 yrs ago, times may have changed and i have thought about doing it again, but have not yet found a quick and easy towable macine which is comfortable on my back.....little or no bending over whilst using machine
  16. i watch it too, they were white water rafting in cardiff a few weeks ago, i mised it though, very good program
  17. hope this works
  18. pay load is just over a ton or less with a tail lift. sorry, i've read it as ...A full wood load could push toward 3T in 15 barrow bags....thats 3ton in 15 bags why would you be worried about pushing 3 ton when the limit is 3.5 ton:confused1:
  19. there is no way that is 3 ton of wood in 15 bags, thats 200kgs per bag!!! unless it is all fresh, and i still doubt it. dave, love the truck though, and well done for the extra effort in barrow bags, let us know if it really works for you in the time, effort and cost ratio, compared to the usuall tip off on drive method
  20. those lovely ladies persuaded me 3 times:thumbup:
  21. i like it......................but not enough to buy it looks good for a new started though, if i were a brave gambling man i'd say stevie blair would have it
  22. fuelwoods machine was the first and original design, all others are based on and around that model. the main difference would be price and aftersales service, posch is great if you live near scotland, not so great for us all the way down here, but never had too much of a problem that several persistant phone calls cant sort out
  23. which is better.... a merc or a bmw..= personal preferance
  24. nothing wrong with softwood!!!
  25. all firewoods on that guide need a serious review imo wood is a valuable resourse and we should not be wasting any of it!!!!
