  1. Your ditch may not be filled with waste but try telling that to EA. You can apply online for you free farm exemptions the one for spreading ditch spoil is U10 but be careful where you spread it as your not allowed to go carting it around the farm. Also restrictions on how much you can spread per hectare and a total stockpile of only 1250 tonnes. On some of the ditches I maintain I can easily extract 1 tonne per mtr so 1250 tonnes is very easy to exceed.
  2. When clearing our ditches we use a 3 tonne excavator and leave the spoil to drain for a year and then sieve before spreading. Only allowed to do 1 bank per year and don't forget you need EA exemptions for the operation.
  3. I would be very wary of any attempt to put business rates on your set up. Have a word with a land agent and try and keep the site as agriculture and forestry as permitted development especially in green belt is easier.
  4. Apparently has already been done on an Australian land rover.
  5. Was looking to attach to the existing tow bar frame as it seemed to be the most solid part of the defender
  6. At present I deliver my IBC containers full of split logs using my MB Trac which is a bit sledgehammer to crack a nut. I have a cunning plan to convert my old land rover 90 into a delivery vehicle by adding a fork lift to the rear with fold up forks. The idea would then be to run on white diesel but under the rules of a dual purpose vehicle keeping the ability to tow a trailer. Even thought of making it agri reg to overcome the hassle of annual MOT. Any views on why it will not work. Existing 90 has rear bench seats with access only through the back door.
  7. Never wear a watch. As far as I am concerned its a stress piece which can be avoided. If desperate for the time can always look on my phone.
  8. Your planning could affect how you build your polytunnel. If you can get permission then you can go to town with a permanent structure concrete floor etc. otherwise it will need to be a temporary structure which means concrete anchors which you can lift for your hoops and temporary concrete bog mats for your floor if you want to use machinery inside your tunnel.
  9. Whenever my mf550 does not start but still starts using screwdriver across the solenoid the problem has always been either a wire off the high low. Safety switch or a lose wire on the same safety switch.
  10. I use engineers glasses the logic being if it stops sparks from an angle grinder then a bit of sawdust should be dead easy.
  11. Just a thought could it be dandelion milk we used to use it when I was a kid as a prank for the unwary.
  12. If it is wood chip for schools it should be heat treated torrefied woodchip. If it is ordinary untreated woodchip then it could have fungal spores which could cause a reaction however by the sounds of it the chip has been sprayed to stop the weeds coming through and the reaction could be to the spray.
  13. It's attitudes like that which nearly cost me a new Merc hydraulic pump. My mb trac went in for a clutch change at a well known unimog dealer. Got the tractor back with hydraulics not working and confused with time on the bill for sorting out hydraulics. Could not understand as hydraulics where fine when it went in. Turns out Merc pump requires super thin like water hydraulic 10 oil not the thick stuff they put in. So after draining and refilling with 50ltrs it saved £800 on a new pump.
  14. I am pleased the APF is every 2 years it gives me time to save some pennies.
  15. I will stick with the forwarding crane. Take half dozen rings off one end then walk down the other end and do the same. Eventually you will end up in the middle. Forgot to say first cut only 3 rings to keep in balance.
  16. I am in a similar position on our farm but have got used to operating with my equipment being the extra pair of hands. Normal precautions of all the right gear of chainsaw boots, trousers ear defenders and helmet with visor although I do take the extra precaution of wearing engineers glasses as I regard my eyes as precious. Good quality chainsaw and a sharp chain. If your not used to sharpening a chain then for the amount you do buy a new chain when the edge goes on the old chain.
  17. I will not be dictated to by a two bit company so husky will get my trade.
  18. My forward control mb Trac with 3 point timber crane is very handy in such situations being all wheel steer it has an extremely small turning circle and easily extracts 6 tonne at a time.
  19. If north Manchester then you can use our farm as a free tip site. Pm for details
  20. What if you made the bundles 1 foot longer. Less strapping for the same weight.
  21. Presume your cutting in November
  22. Will try the fergie pulley with 540 speed of the mf 550. If its to slow or not enough Hp I have the option of using my mb Trac which is 100 Hp and pto of 1000 rpm.
  23. Tractor is a mf 550 which is really a newer version of mf35.
  24. Graham w Looking at your rack how do you operate it with the guards in situ. Do you have a roller or something pushing the timber against width gauge.
  25. Sounds like I need to test it with a fergi pulley attached to my tractor. Tractor is 47hp when new so probably 35 Hp now. I will look into the fire hose for a belt. Video which agrimog put up of traction engines running rack saws with a crossed belt. Is this just because of the length to the traction engine as I am more used to running a circular saw without the belt being crossed.
