  1. Still on the woodgas theme I am sure there is one which includes a TEG for charging your iphone etc. Also lamps with TEG's for use on your camp stove.
  2. My commercial briquette press operates at 80 bar pressure to produce a 50 mm diameter pellet. From that you should be able to work back what diameter pellet you could expect from a 25 ton press.
  3. Horsey types would expect a water trough rather than a stream so if it was me I would plumb a trough into your stream which would make it more marketable.
  4. Well managed to get an edge on the blade. Used the thin steel cutting discs on my angle grinder and it worked well apart from 2 discs exploding. Fortunately was wearing safety gear so not a problem. Tried splitting 4ft length of timber against blade and hey presto it works. Will have to monitor how quick it wears out but at least it has the strength to do the job. Thanks to all for the suggestions
  5. Thats precisely what I designed by using an RSJ "I" beam with the excavator connection attached to the top of the I beam.
  6. Sorry Dean the first video was a bit of a red herring as the stump excavator video was the first one I could find that looked anything similar to the attachment that has been fabricated for me. The second video is what I am trying to do. I get a lot of big butts which I haul home in 4 - 6 mtr lengths. I then slice into 1.5 mtr lengths (size of my metal stacking racks which I use with fork lift as log deck). The excavator splitter is to break these 1.5 mtr lengths into manageable size for my palax processor (12 inch maximum) That said if it will chew out stumps as well that will be an added bonus.
  7. If you where nearer you could borrow my drawbar container trailer although 70 mile drag each way with my MB Trac would not really be economic time wise. At least the trailer being on air the container would be easy to unload.
  8. Its not actually in contact with the earth. Here is a better example of how it will be used. Excavator Log Splitter
  9. This is similar to what I am trying to sharpen [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxEZkSBj-o4]Wurzelstock mit Rodemesser am Minibagger abschälen - YouTube[/ame] Thanks for the flap disc idea I had not thought of that. I did consider my belt sander but unfortunately it seems to have died.
  10. Whats the best method of putting an edge on a splitting blade. I can get a rough edge with an angle grinder but thought there might be something more efficient than a flat file for the final finish. Any suggestions blade is made from RSJ steel so quite soft.
  11. This thread has brought a smile to my face. All this talk of high powered saws for cutting only 2-3 foot in softwood. If you only new the size of hardwood butts I am regular cutting with my old Husky 141. Yes I do treat it to a new chain before doing a batch of large butts but it cuts like butter. At times I wish it would break down so that I could treat myself to a new shiny toy but it will be a hard act to follow.
  12. Near Bolton Lancs only a short hop to Drax so the big boys are eager for chip.
  13. No tip fee and a free brew and we stiil dont get enough chip. Cant think of anyone around us who charges to tip.
  14. Last load from the site yesterday. All the big stuff some of which needed the chain saw to make small enough for the crane. I am sure it is the sound of the chainsaw which bring the thieves out fortunately I had my dog with me who spotted the smurf in the woods hovering with intent. Extra biscuits for him when we got home.
  15. Lost one of my three hives over the winter. (Believe it was a badger tipping over hive) Would have lost more due to lack of food if it was not for Himalayan Balsam which has now taken over the valley bottom. Local conservation group now want to eradicate the Himalayan Balsam by spraying.
  16. The second barrel seemed to use the extension pipe seen in the first video with a gap of approx 6 inches between barrels which I presume was the original chimney stub which the extension chimney connected to. I think the gas from the 2nd barrel was just vented as I could not see any pipe connecting to the bottom tank. Looking at your setup it should work but I think you may have gone wrong with your barrel openings facing outwards. The clamp seals on your barrels will not be air tight . To solve the problem I would rotate the barrels so that the lids are at the back of the chamber then the gas will be fully combusted. Also have faith in keeping your doors closed. Dont give up have another burn as suggested and see what your results are. Its not a precise science but one you learn with experience.
  17. Have a look at this retort. It is supposed to be economic on fuel with the insulation helping to convert all the timber to charcoal. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBYaP5K0AkE]The best charcoal retort kiln in the world? - YouTube[/ame] I have also seen a double barrel version with the second barrel above the first with double the output for the same fuel use.
  18. I would have thought the farm would be offering a free tip site to encourage volume for processing. Good luck to them if they can get away with charging a gate fee.
  19. Your basically paying his diesel cost for hauling to Drax instead of taking it to Slough.
  20. Have been following this on the bay but I am sure it was on recently large forestry planking rack pto saw bench sliding bed ernest and doe timber | eBay Think I would rather have a band saw instead if it keeps going up
  21. I can never get enough chip. Although with the likes of Slough closing I might get a chance.
  22. If anyone is in the same situation within 25 mile radius of Bolton we do a free collection service using our MB Trac and forwarder.
  23. Played them at there own game. First load taken all prime processor wood closest to gate 2nd load rest of prime processor wood. Leaving only big butts and Poplar on site. Fairies now seem to have disappeared.
  24. Clearing a site at the moment and it looks like we have intelligent fairies. Obviously starting nearest the locked gates but taking processor size birch but leaving processor size poplar.
