  1. This makes my blood boil. In a similar position with my MB Trac you expect the Unimog experts to do a professional job but when they changed my clutch they forgot to tighten up the engine sump plug. First long journey and the plug dropped out dropping the oil and doing the damage. Tackled the unimog dealer who denies liability saying that he did not drop the oil when he took the engine out. Fortunately I recovered the sump plug which clearly shows the specialist tool had been used in the sump plug. Totally agree with you Ash fight your corner and I wish you the best of luck. Trading standards have been excellent for us but it is still going to take legal action to recover the cost of a replacement engine which you dont expect from a "reputable" unimog dealer. In the meantime anyone know of a good 6 cyl OM352 engine for sale at the moment cheapest option is a Merc short engine for £4800.
  2. So I presume the 1.2hp chainsaw would be better requiring 30cfm. Even a 10 inch bar would be enough for 90% of the cuts I do.
  3. Is that more to do with the size of your air tanks. Obviously you only use the chainsaw for a couple of minutes to cut through the log then the pressure would build up again for the next cut.
  4. Anybody experience with air chainsaws. Air Chain Saws and Pneumatic Chain Saws Made by CS Unitec With having air on MB Trac and already using for air drill, impact driver and angle grinder just wondered whether chainsaw would be useful as my husky is getting long in the tooth and I normally only use it for cutting to length when loading the forwarding trailer.
  5. If your wondering why the price has tumbled then look no further than the red tape put out by Ofgem. http://142.150.176.36/task43/images/membersonly/Quebeceventoct2012/Documents%20from%20the%20workshop/11-EU%20Renewable%20Energy%20Directive%20and%20UK%20Renewables%20Obligation/UK%20Solid%20and%20Gaseous%20Biomass%20Guidance%20FINAL.pdf I defy anybody to understand this bu11shit
  6. Well our solar kiln dried logs are £100 per m3 guaranteed less than 20% MC and I was worried about the competition undercutting me by £30. I thought I would need to advertise but pleased I did not as I have virtually sold out only keeping a reserve for my regular customers. The wet competition logs actually did me a favour so looking to double volume again for next year so will be a busy summer to get it all seasoned for next winter.
  7. You will just have to be patient. I am still trying to get all my bits relocated into a new agricultural building instead of the current hotch potch. Once that is done I do need to have some open days to comply with my grant terms so an arbtalk day is certainly on the cards.
  8. I also do a collection service with my MB Trac and forwarding trailer but normally restrict to within 25 miles of Bolton. Formby unfortunately is right at the edge of that range although I have collected from Southport in the past.
  9. You could always put in your own biomass power plant.
  10. Your local wood turners meet at the Ramsbottam Farmers market second Sunday every month. They have a stall showing there work and normally a demo in the back room of the Civic Hall with the indoor farmers market stalls at the front of the civic hall. Theres also some outside stalls so dont get confused.
  11. Just thought it was the right time of year for a moss bandage before the sap starts to rise. If you wait till the summer it could be to late.
  12. Is anyone trying to save the tree.
  13. If it is willow I doubt a saw cut like that would kill off the tree.
  14. You could always put in your own efficient biomass plant rather than the conversion of coal dinosaurs.
  15. Bet you have never told the better half that otherwise you would already have received the compulsory training course.
  16. I am a qualified accountant does that count. Been using chainsaws 40 years only ever hand 1 tender which required chainsaw tickets and got around the problem by using tree shear instead.
  17. Just paid £17 for Dickies at my local hardware store and thought that was quite cheap. Also bought a pair of Apache for £16 to do a comparison.
  18. Are you still in drought in NZ. If so any cheap farms up for sale?? getting fed of this UK climate and the endless red tape coming out of government.
  19. Can you not tap a supply off a stream rather than a borehole. Where on a stream fed by a spring.
  20. Reading between the lines you can only supply woodchip from FSC approved forests to RHI boilers. Any other sort of chip and you lose your RHI. Might be a loophole for "waste" and another for self supply but it all seems like a rip off to me.
  21. Anybody heard of the new rules coming in from 1st April 2014 that only woodchip from suppliers off the "Approved Suppliers List" will be eligible for RHI payments. Some details here Approved suppliers for RHI installations eNews Current ConFor Looks like another good con to extract annual fees just so that you can supply your customer with woodchip. I give up with this country its just going to the dogs
  22. In my opinion if the tree dies he deserves to have the tree felled onto his house with no insurance cover.
  23. Advice needed. Am I just being picky or would the logistics of maintaining so many small packets be self defeating. http://slice3.reapit.com/ckdrpsdets/EDI120114.PDF The intention would be to put in a small CHP plant just North of Keith which would require approx 20 tonnes timber per day.
  24. Still keeping base in Lancs but daughter looking to move to Scotland to run woodland estate if it all stacks up which it is not doing at the moment. I think the old Sawmill at Rosebery is now multiple craft units so is not on the market but thanks for the thought.
  25. Anybody around Keith (Scotland) aware of a sawmill for sale or premises suitable for sawmill. Looking at an estate but logistics dont stack up at the moment
