  1. Problem I see is our product being exempt but the downside is logs now being officially classed as waste. More info - Timber regulation 2013- DG Environment Does that then lead on to needing waste transfer licence. ??
  2. Yes there is a problem if you have to comply. Every tree you fell must be traceable to end use. So how are you going to identify which tree that log came from.
  3. Must distinguish between hire of chipper and purchase of timber. If you have bought the timber and are transporting back to your own premises then VOSA do not have a leg to stand on. Your Mog is purpose built for the operation the same as a spray tank on an agricultural crop sprayer.
  4. Does anybody know how this red tape affects our industry Timber regulation 2013- DG Environment - European Commission
  5. I am interested in this as I cannot understand how people arrive at there log bag prices. I normally sell my solar kiln dry split logs guaranteed less than 20% MC for £100 per m3 so £120 for a 1.2 m3 IBC. I get 25 bags out of an IBC container and cost of bag is 20p each so total cost £125 which works out at £5.00 per bag (gross) Selling direct to customer 5% vat net price is £4.76 Selling direct to trade 20% vat net price £4.17. Cheapest kiln dried logs I have found on the internet are £5.80 so net £5.53 so trade customer will make £5.53- £4.17 which is £1.36 per bag So the trader is making over 30% profit for very little work. So nets at £2.50 ??. Small bags ??. I have not even costed in the above the labour involved in bagging
  6. Just because they sell them does not make them experts in the field of VOSA. They also repair them but they wont be getting my custom again.
  7. Store in mesh sided IBC containers. Chip can also be in IBC containers just leave in the plastic insert and chop the tops off. Woodchip needs to be below 20% MC before you store it in IBC containers and then it will keep indefinitely.
  8. Once VOSA gets hold of it they generally dont let go. Road legality of farm machines a costly issue for contractor | Features | Farmers Guardian
  9. Refo have excellent reputation and have been around for a long time but dont expect them to be cheap. Will burn woodchip upto 35% MC REFO Automatic-stoking boilers.
  10. I hire my MB Trac with either 9T forwarding trailer or Heizohack chipper and operator for £250 per day plus fuel. Even at that price there is not a huge demand as your into the 6 inch chipper mentality as Nick says.
  11. I do like that merc 406 shame about the price. Does anybody know whether this was a factory option or a one off build.
  12. Not a problem. Hope you get your tipper fixed as its rare for me to use a shovel nowadays.
  13. I have unregistered land which I look after but at least I can prove that in the past it belonged to the farm even though land registry will not register it as such as there is a break in ownership trail that I cannot prove. In your case the client would need to prove he has been managing the unregistered land. ie maintaining boundary fences, working the land etc etc. Obviously this is not the case which is why the trees are in the state the in. Basically I would not touch it with a barge pole.
  14. Always welcome at the farm although North of Bolton PM sent
  15. Its only proven if your still fit enough to do it. I am not getting any younger and I continually strive to make the operation more efficient which includes reducing the strain on my body. Local delivery with my MB Trac has made the truck redundant its just limiting my economic delivery area to 5 miles rather than the 25 miles with the truck.
  16. My old mac has to break first before getting a new one.
  17. Its all here just look under part 7 http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1995/418/schedule/2/made Are you sure you have complied with everything outlined in part 7 including fees paid and pinning up a notice. It is complex which is why I like using a land agent because they know the system and the pitfalls if you get it wrong.
  18. Trailers are not really feasible due to a lot of single tracks and lack of turnaround space.
  19. Not practical on rough terrain though. Where I deliver its normally up a muddy farm track
  20. Prior approval is different than full planning. So long as you have given them notice in the approved manner and sent it recorded delivery then if they dont respond in the statuatory time span then there is no reason why you cant start building. Basically they had the ability to give prior approval but for whatever reason choose not to.
  21. Thanks for the comments. I did not think a trantor would be much quicker than the MB Trac. As for a hiab where all set up for pallet work so using a crane would be a backward step. As for pallet truck and car transporter trailer I am getting to old for that. What I have found is this attachment which could fit on my defender Vehicle Three point hitch Applications and Photos It looks a bit heath robinson but they do say it lifts 2000 lbs which is more than an IBC container of wood but then you would need some very lightweight forks
  22. Sorry to disappoint but if you produce enough you also get taxed on wind and solar.
  23. With this CPC coming in for 7.5 tonne truck I am looking to get rid of my Merc 814 curtainsider with tail lift. Want to still deliver using IBC's and dont have a problem less than 5 miles as I will use MB Trac but further away it seems a bit sledge hammer to crack a nut. Was thinking Ag Rover with forks on three point lift would be ideal. Only problem I see with getting rid of the truck is moving 3 tonne excavator but then I will have to manage with MB Trac.
  24. Anybody know of an Ag Rover for sale or similar vehicle with 3 point lift but smaller than a Mog. Need to register as Agric vehicle
  25. So have they or have they not said you need to apply for planning permission see your earlier post.
