  1. Andy What is your problem of course the dog is a tool of your trade how else are you supposed to find the truffles in the forest.
  2. You can claim for a working sheepdog as it is a tool of the trade
  3. Treedave depends on how sophisticated you want your woodburner. You can now get fully automatic burners like the refo which can work in the same way as a gas or oil central heating boiler using woodchip or wood pellets. If the fuel store is large enough you may only have to fill up and take the ashes away once a month. We have an Esse woodburning range for central heating and cooking. And a Yeoman stove for the living room also linked to the central heating. We inherited the Yeoman and will eventually replace with a clearview as the Yeoman is very inefficient We used to have oil central heating using 6900 litres each year. When the price went up to 28p from 9p we moved onto wood. I think the current price is about 62p per litre for heating oil as opposed to timber for nothing.
  4. If you have a working farm then upto 25% of your farmhouse cost is normally accepted by HMRC as allowable expenses. Make sure the farm is over 5 Hectares and you can prove it is actively farmed.
  5. I use a polytunnel for drying wood as we used to grow herbs but there is more money in generating electric. Our tunnels are on a slight slope so hot air automatically goes through the tunnel with windbreak doors at either end for ventilation. Wood is stacked in standard reused plastic boxes.
  6. Thanks all for your comments Its nice to know they do actually work. Speaking to Lee the canadian outfit have issues with European CE certificates but he has found an alternative source and should be in the country next week for me to view. Have taken on board the low ground clearance with the alpine tractor so are looking at a john deere 955 to pull the trailer. Do you think it would be worth paying the extra for the powered trailer option As for using horses I did suggest to my daughters I could give their horses some useful exercise but they flatly refuse.
  7. Will soon have a CHP unit operating on the Lancs/Yorks border which will be able to handle woodchip
  8. We have a lot of forests which need timber extracting from stump however due to the nature of the woods large tractors are not suitable so we are looking at approx 30hp compact tractors to pull mini forwarders. Can anybody recommend suitable mini forwarders for the task
