  1. It really annoys me when this happens. I have struggled to get finance for an Austrian Biomass technology which has an excellent track record going back twenty years which gets rejected by the government grant people because it is to sophisticated (yes it works) who then recommend that I use the technology manufactured in the UK that does not work. With regards miscanthus I would not like to briquette it unless you have a free source of drying the miscanthus.
  2. Have a word with CO2sense (formerly Future Energy Yorkshire) and ask them why they would not support a biomass power station in Hull just because we are based in Lancashire. Talk about war of the roses. We were looking to source 20,000 tonnes of local Biomass including miscanthus and SRC.
  3. Not unless you are prepared to pay good money for the arb waste. Within 5 years I can see a good market for arb waste being created throughout the country as the price of logs goes up.
  4. How long is a piece of string. I use IBC containers which hold a cubic mtr but can vary in weight from 0.25 tonne upto 0.5 tonne depending on the moisture content. I dont pay for water so my assumed dry weight is o.25 tonne per IBC container.
  5. Its United Utilities that have sold the land with the trees still owned by the council.
  6. I understand the tax breaks for woodland but you need to own the timber and in this case they have bought the land but the timber belongs to the local authority. As you say it might be a paintball type activity but surely you would require planning permission for that. With a major horse bridalway going through the site this type of activity must surely be refused.
  7. STS Main pennine bridalway goes right through the site so I think it would be useless for shooting
  8. Went to a Pugh & Co auction last Thursday and 11 acres of woodland for sale made 25k. Good price you may think but looking in the legal pack the actual timber on the site is owned by the local council and their is a woodland management scheme in place until 2028 restricting the harvesting of timber whilst still having to maintain the fences etc. Is this a sign of woodland inflation or just somebody who did not read the legal pack. If they did read the legal pack then what loophole did they find to create a profit out of the site.
  9. My dad was a shipwright sawing up lignum vitae as ship propeller bearings he died aged 50 of a heart attack. Post Mortem reported lungs filled with powdery substance as if smoking 100 cigerettes per day. He had never smoked in his life and the powder was lignum vitae sawdust.
  10. Still does not get over the point of ownership of the tree that you have felled whether you have purchased it or are disposing of it for your client. In the latter VOSA would view as a haulage service for your client so you would definitely need white.
  11. Prefer fresh as less chance of fungal spores. (less than 2 weeks old) We do buy chip in at the right price but we do not pay for water. Price paid per tonne of dried product.
  12. Due to the process we use we can use the whole tree including needles leaves etc.
  13. If your within 25 miles radius of Bolton then I will collect and pay for woodchip or brash for use in wood pellet production.
  14. I think in law you will find that you are disposing of your clients waste. For you to own the timber you would need to make an offer to the client and the client accept that offer. If accepted then consideration has to take place normally in the form of money but could be a service provided ie removal of timber.
  15. Is there phrase in his advert that you could register as a trade mark then every time he uses that phrase he will actually be advertising for you as the legitimate owner of the trade mark. ie cheerio which could mean goodbye but also a breakfast cereal.
  16. This is how we run our 7.5 tonne Merc. We were pulled by VOSA at Chelford market and told we needed a tacho (fitted but not used) I argued for 2 hours that we did not need and relied on this exemption even suggested they rang Chadderton test station were my truck is tested with record of my exemption. "Jobs worth "was having none of it and issued me with a compliance notice by which time I had missed the farm sale. Took it up with Chadderton and 2 weeks later received a written apology that the site officer had made a mistake and we were correct in not needing a tacho in the circumstances and the compliance notice was lifted. Chadderton enforcement officer was very good and justified his opinion by saying it was critical that the goods we took to market and returned from market belonged to the farm. It also helped that the farm was over 5 hectares which is the DEFRA break point between farm and small-holding. Since then we have always paid for goods even at a nominal amount so that we cannot be accused of hauling somebody elses waste.
  17. I think you will have a hard time arguing this in court. If you purchased the timber from the client and have evidence of this transaction taking place at arms length (ie commercial purchase price for the timber) you might have a plausible argument but without this you are providing a waste disposal service for your client.
  18. Torrefied wood will be cheaper to pellet and briquette with no need for a hammer mill. The end product is a direct equivalent to coal and does not absorb moisture unlike conventional pellets or briquettes which have to be stored dry.
  19. Anyone knows what the rules are for kerosene as my chinese tractor was designed to run on kerosene.
  20. BigRedDog I would hang on to your 100k as this type of plant is on the verge of becoming obsolete.
  21. Normally a collection service using IBC containers which we supply.
  22. Peter At the moment we are looking at Arb waste and brash (not grass clippings) within roughly 50 miles of Liverpool. We have plans for two further plants in Bristol and Hull but not until later this year.
  23. logbaron googlemaps says 55 miles so just on the very limits as it is virtually motorway all the way. The burner is much more efficient then a drax burner but the generation works on a similar basis to Drax but is dedicated wood fired not co-fired. We chip using a MBTrac and Heizohack chipper on site into IBC containers. Two containers located behind MB Trac cab.
  24. Even green Rhodie is good brash for power station fuel. If you have a large volume of brash and within 50 miles of Liverpool then we would be interested in using it rather than having to hire an air burner.
