  1. If you where within 25 miles of Bolton I could certainly use it but transport is the killer. I would suggest buying a cheap briquette machine (under 10k) PM me if you want any info.
  2. It does get scary in a thunderstorm especially when the tunnel is the highest object in the field
  3. Logbaron If you get this amount of sawdust on a regular basis I could set up a regular collection and turn it into briquettes . PM me with quantities if you are interested
  4. Dean I see you still not been put off yet so if your serious 3 things you must crack to be successful at growing trees. You need an automatic watering system as trees in pots will not survive without a regular water supply You must have a strong enough support to stop the trees from blowing over in the wind You must repot every 3 years by at least 5 ltr in pot size. Best of luck
  5. Thanks for the warning I had not realised the Japenese Sumac was also called the Chinese Varnish Tree. If somebody wants to photograph one I have one in my garden which I have luckily pruned in the past without injury.
  6. Says it all for me. We also had to put down our old english sheep dog Sarah Snowdrop with collapsed hips in 08. We buried here in here own raised bed and planted snowdrops which have been wonderful this year.
  7. Does it come with free trolley jack
  8. How do you extract timber when the oil runs out WCSH6.com | Portland, ME | Lombard Steam Log Hauler Goes Full Steam Ahead
  9. Dean Not to put you off but the market is flooded with cheap trees if you know where to go. Specimen trees are always in demand but you need to know what you are doing to end up with a tree which somebody will pay good money for.
  10. Skipton Auction mart this Saturday so I will keep my eyes open.
  11. Just for the sake of clarity, it's biomass (from trees) they are burning. Biofuel is made from plants and is usually a liquid fuel used in vehicles, and the like. You can also make Biofuel from trees just to confuse the situation
  12. It really annoys me when this happens. I have struggled to get finance for an Austrian Biomass technology which has an excellent track record going back twenty years which gets rejected by the government grant people because it is to sophisticated (yes it works) who then recommend that I use the technology manufactured in the UK that does not work. With regards miscanthus I would not like to briquette it unless you have a free source of drying the miscanthus.
  13. Have a word with CO2sense (formerly Future Energy Yorkshire) and ask them why they would not support a biomass power station in Hull just because we are based in Lancashire. Talk about war of the roses. We were looking to source 20,000 tonnes of local Biomass including miscanthus and SRC.
  14. Not unless you are prepared to pay good money for the arb waste. Within 5 years I can see a good market for arb waste being created throughout the country as the price of logs goes up.
  15. How long is a piece of string. I use IBC containers which hold a cubic mtr but can vary in weight from 0.25 tonne upto 0.5 tonne depending on the moisture content. I dont pay for water so my assumed dry weight is o.25 tonne per IBC container.
  16. Its United Utilities that have sold the land with the trees still owned by the council.
  17. I understand the tax breaks for woodland but you need to own the timber and in this case they have bought the land but the timber belongs to the local authority. As you say it might be a paintball type activity but surely you would require planning permission for that. With a major horse bridalway going through the site this type of activity must surely be refused.
  18. STS Main pennine bridalway goes right through the site so I think it would be useless for shooting
  19. Went to a Pugh & Co auction last Thursday and 11 acres of woodland for sale made 25k. Good price you may think but looking in the legal pack the actual timber on the site is owned by the local council and their is a woodland management scheme in place until 2028 restricting the harvesting of timber whilst still having to maintain the fences etc. Is this a sign of woodland inflation or just somebody who did not read the legal pack. If they did read the legal pack then what loophole did they find to create a profit out of the site.
  20. My dad was a shipwright sawing up lignum vitae as ship propeller bearings he died aged 50 of a heart attack. Post Mortem reported lungs filled with powdery substance as if smoking 100 cigerettes per day. He had never smoked in his life and the powder was lignum vitae sawdust.
  21. Still does not get over the point of ownership of the tree that you have felled whether you have purchased it or are disposing of it for your client. In the latter VOSA would view as a haulage service for your client so you would definitely need white.
  22. Prefer fresh as less chance of fungal spores. (less than 2 weeks old) We do buy chip in at the right price but we do not pay for water. Price paid per tonne of dried product.
  23. Due to the process we use we can use the whole tree including needles leaves etc.
  24. If your within 25 miles radius of Bolton then I will collect and pay for woodchip or brash for use in wood pellet production.
  25. I think in law you will find that you are disposing of your clients waste. For you to own the timber you would need to make an offer to the client and the client accept that offer. If accepted then consideration has to take place normally in the form of money but could be a service provided ie removal of timber.
