  1. I think I will have to advertise as chunky kindling being 9 1/2 inches long. I could saw in half but I value my fingers.
  2. How long is the kindling it looks very short or is that the camera angle
  3. Horticulture is a good agricultural use on a very small acreage due to its high turnover per square foot. It will also justify the use of woodchip for heating your polytunnel/glasshouse in the winter. Also makes excellent timber drying areas.
  4. I thought of using returnable boxes like the veg box scheme I used to do
  5. Start by applying to the Environment agency for all the relevant exemptions as a guide I registered for numbers 30,25,21,48,15,5,32,4,17,18,13,14. Once you have these under your belt start your woodland operation making sure you take photographic evidence to give a history of the site. After 4 years the council will find it very difficult to argue against the business having been established at which point you can go with all guns blazing for a farm diversification to include your holiday lets. I use a land agent for advice and he is getting very frustrated with council attitudes to rural diversification so the stronger your position prior to approaching the council the better.
  6. Any suggestions for an alternative to plastic kindling nets as it just seems environmentally wrong putting this extra plastic into the community.
  7. Are you losing any water on a journey. Is pto and gearbox full of oil.
  8. Quoting from the handbook it depends which model .440 168 is 25km/h 440 168s with engine limiter is 32km/h and 440 168s without limiter 40km/h if that is any help.
  9. Andy Would be interested in the Fordson Major crawler if it was the 6 cylinder but from the photo I think it might only be 4 cylinder.
  10. You need to ask if the farmer has already got the various Environment Agency exemption licenses if he does not know what your talking about then find another farmer. Not saying I am a typical farmer but the list of exemptions we had to register for just to continue farming was 12 plus 1 complex exemption which has to be renewed annually.
  11. We sell bulk loads of Kindling as well as Briquettes, Wood Pellets, G30 spec Woodchip and logs. We also have Torrefied Briquettes and Torrefied Wood Pellets under development which will be a direct coal substitute. PM me for more info.
  12. You could have had space here on the farm. We have set up a scheme on the farm with Landshare (As seen on TV River Cottage) We now have a community of 14 families growing Veg on our land using our horticulture equipment. I am extending this to a community of tree surgeons (Treeshare) who will be able to use our fuel processing and storage facilities as a base for there operations.
  13. My silage flail may look a bit silly behind a fastrac as it is only 4ft wide but it would do the job.
  14. If it was in IBC containers in my polytunnel no more than 2-3 months.
  15. Ask your father in law whether he has applied for the Agricultural Waste Exemptions the Legislation came into force in 2006 and he should have applied to the Environment Agency at that time. The ones relevant to yourself would be No 30 Burning Plant Tissue in the open. No 21 Chipping Shredding Cutting or Pulverising waste plant matter. No 17 Storing wastes intended for recycling or recovery in a secure place. If he did not have them and now wants to apply he may be asked some awkward questions especially if somebody has already been down gathering evidence. I agree with Mesterh stop burning now until you can confirm all the bits of paper are in place. the penalties can be severe if you get it wrong.
  16. Is over the border in Lancashire to far although I could combine a delivery with visit to my Mother on the East coast Lincolnshire.
  17. Have both Palax Combi log processor and Browns logging sawbench both PTO driven based in Lancashire. PM me if interested.
  18. Have a look at Bioplex although your tonneage may be a bit low to make it worth your while. Home Page | Bioplex Technologies Limited UK - The Future of Recycling
  19. Really annoys me with claims of a British invention when Briquette machines similar to the one I use have been used for this purpose for years as well as nuts, grass, metal swarf, plastic, corn, woodchip, mdf, cherry pips, grape pips virtually anything that can be ground up fine.
  20. If it is that green then it would suggest a high moisture content which would need an Anerobic Digester rather than a gasifier. How many tonnes per week do you produce as the size of the AD plant will be determined by the amount of feedstock.
  21. Might have a chance of turning into fuel but I would need to know the following What moisture content is it. Is it all Virgin material
  22. Firewoodman I have also spotted this trend so we now do solar dried wood. Upmarket name for drying wood in IBC containers in a 20 mtr clear polytunnel. Might not create any more sales but with every man and his dog doing logs a nice clean product might just clinch the deal and allow for that additional premium.
  23. You might get more comments if your banner at the top of Arbtalk linked to your website instead of coming up page not found. I also will be going to the APF mainly because of the live demonstration areas. I quite understand the frustration by Palax aired on one of the Arbtalk threads in respect of the Arb show and can see a shadow free show being established down the road from the Arb show especially if it has a realistically priced bar and overnight accommodation.
  24. We lift our 15 tonne steam engines with a gantry crane . In the days before HSE you could have borrowed my 10 tonne pulley and chain blocks to easily lift it.
  25. Best of luck. Remember to inform the Inland Revenue and get on top of your book keeping from day one with receipts for everything.
