  1. Fitted new blow off valve not made the slightest difference. Blow off appeared to be from brake servo traced back and found very thin air pipe had been jiffy strapped and come undone. replaced with proper connector and hey presto job done. Now does anyone want a perfectly good blow off valve??. As for chipper now up and running which I put down to a loose electrical connection thanks to all for advice. What is the best speed to run at firewoodman suggests 640 Alex suggested 800 and the manual recommends 750. Its all softwood I am chipping if that makes a difference some green with moisture content of 50-60% and some kiln died at 15-20%.
  2. Thanks for the help. I will give it all a try but first I need to fix the MB Trac which has just started blowing off at 5 bar instead of 8 bar making it impossible to engage the PTO. Got a new blow off valve from A C Price so while I was there picked up a manual for the Chipper. Alex suggested to wire direct through a fuse from the battery to the control box as the 7 pin connector is not reliable and if it is wired direct you do not lose the settings every time the ignition is switched off.
  3. Anybody have an operators manual for a Heizohack 6-300 which they could email to me. Everything seems right but I cannot get the feed rollers to start. Anybody with any ideas on what I should be doing???
  4. How much are you looking to spend. I spent 3 months trying to find what your looking for. Ended up with a good deal on an ex demo Kesla trailer and crane from Caladonian forestry and a forward control MB Trac 1000 but still waiting for Alex at A C Price to put forestry guards on it. At the time what was on the market seemed very expensive or fit for the scrap yard.
  5. I just hope he was fully insured and the family receives the money without any hassell. It can never replace a life but it should relieve the financial stress. In view of these fatalities I can forsee another round of insurance premium hikes, restrictions put on climbing heights and who is allowed to climb. Maybe it is time for all trees over a certain height to be tackled from an aerial platform but there again you can be killed falling off a pair of steps.
  6. Even humans can end up with copper poisoning. I would not recommend eating rhubarb cooked in a copper pan on a regular basis.
  7. Copper nails do work but they need to be pure copper buried in the ground to allow the copper to dissolve into the tree. You can also do the same effect with copper pipe. Obviously the bigger the tree the more it takes to kill it.
  8. I was really referring to the effect of the prevailing wind which can make specimen trees lop sided.
  9. What Gareth said plus take a compass bearing and replant in same direction if possible.
  10. Have a look at Multitek 2040XP2 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fwcqlbnlTk&feature=related[/ame] I am sure something similar could be made for the palax
  11. Can you get a splitter blade which can turn the Palax into a kindling machine
  12. Lets not be pessimistic. As oil runs out history has shown that wood is an easy alternative to turn into everyday fuels so I see the forest area of the UK increasing dramatically.
  13. You can pick up a cheap subaru legacy and trailer. 4WD and estate makes insurance cheaper.
  14. If anybody wants to practice or learn you are quite welcome to come to the farm. Everything from very easy level walling to very steep hill walling.
  15. Andy Sorry for not replying. Majority of my output at the moment is not from Virgin Timber sources so cannot be used in domestic stoves only commercial Waste Incineration Directive approved boilers. If your still interested send me a PM
  16. Rob D I normally supply standard IBC containers for collection and pay minimum £5 per tonne for MC of 8-12% we can accept higher MC but we do not pay for water. Chainsaw milling is ideal for briquettes but a bit coarse for pellets.
  17. Personally I have not received a penny only aggravation and grief.
  18. Rob D All I am asking from the statement above is to establish the price which is acceptable for the right stuff. On previous threads on Arbtalk I have quoted a price we are prepared to pay for sawdust so I do find it slightly unreasonable for the charity card to be thrown in and expect Arbtalk members to give a product away free when it is actually worth money to them. I apologise if I have come over as antagonistic but offering to supply timber of a quality to make briquettes is not something a competitor normally does to allow a new entrant into the market place.
  19. How am I being antagonistic ?? A simple question of how much they were prepared to pay for the sawdust. A offer of G30 woodchip which we would be able to supply An assertion that they could afford to pay a reasonable rate for their sawdust given that they are advertising on ebay a price in excess of £500 a tonne. I like many on here are not a registered charity and cannot afford to give a valuable product away free of charge. Skyhuck I am already in the business of producing Briquettes and Wood Pellets from sawdust bought at market rates. The grant I am currently applying for is to convert Arb Waste into Torrefied Briquettes and Torrefied Wood Pellets which are equivalent in energy content to coal.
  20. Buy a wood gasifier for your tractor and a pto generator and then sell your electric into the grid.
  21. So why are you selling briquettes on ebay at £14.99 for 28kg in my books thats over £535 per tonne
  22. We can dry G30 spec woodchip to a moisture content suitable for briquette manufacture but we certainly will not be giving it away for nothing when you are selling briquettes at £500 per tonne. I am surprised you are able to get sawdust free as commercially we have always paid for clean virgin sawdust.
  23. How much per tonne do you pay for your sawdust
  24. Highland Forestry I am pleased you are happy with your accountant. As a qualified accountant myself its always nice when people appreciate how much an accountant can help and assist a business. Unfortunately not all accountants come up to these standards but when you do find one stick with them. I wish I could comment more but giving general advice is now taboo as far as the accounting bodies are concerned.
  25. Just be careful with the claim for use as home as office as the taxman could come after you when you sell your house for the tax on the capital gain of the business element.
