  1. Have you put in for full planning permission if not thats what there waiting for.
  2. Have a 3 tonne hitachi would be lost without it. Forestry attachments I have are kesla tree shear, grapple and log splitting blade. Move it with my MB Trac so no problem with weight.
  3. We excavate and de-silt 100 mtrs of drainage dykes each year but not allowed to do both banks at the same time. Silt is spread on the land for which we have a licence from the environment agency.
  4. This book is full of errors you have to critically appraise the figures to understand the cr-p he is peddling. Ch 8 Page 55: Sustainable Energy - without the hot air | David MacKay Just because your a professor does not mean your opinions have to be accepted it depends more on who is paying for your opinion. (Pro Nuclear)
  5. Just to show how little water you require for the average household to be self sufficient. Water Vortex Drives Power Plant - Sepp Hasslberger
  6. I would dispute most of this. Just taking the seven barrage as an example of just one river the output is predicted to be upto 15GW depending on which barrage scheme you choose. With current flooding as experienced in the last couple of years more Thames barrier type schemes will be proposed on our major rivers with power generation incorporated within the design.
  7. Yes I did read the earlier posts and there factually incorrect. Its a myth that you only need a high head to generate electric. The big expansion in hydro electric is occurring in low head vortex schemes with heads less than 5 mtrs which can be found throughout England.
  8. Not if the electric price keeps going up. At the present rate of increase the only people that will be able to afford electric will be those that generate there own. You only have to look at the increase in PV in Germany to understand what can be done with renewables.
  9. You can take McKays book with a pinch of salt. Unfortunately he has not rewritten it to correct the errors just added corrective notes.
  10. Drax is just a con. By burning biomass it extends the life of a dirty inefficient coal fired power station. The government should have stuck to its Carbon rules which would have closed this dinosaur instead they bent the rules and have allowed it to continue. What really annoys me is the amount of biomass used by Drax could heat and power twice as many homes if used efficiently.
  11. I would think they will have lots of friends especially if there offering free board and lodge. I could quite easily get accustomed to NZ.
  12. Not necessarily. We spent hours doing the paperwork back in 2005 and on our 15 acre farm received the princely sum of £102. The following year we where late in filing our application and was told that we have now lost all rights to the entitlement. Quite frankly even if we could get it I would not bother with it as if you apply the strict rules of cross compliance we would not be able to farm. Certainly maintaining 400 mtrs of dry stone walls for £102 is a total joke. Around here your lucky to get £100 rent per acre on a 10 month contract.
  13. Pity your not near me as I would ring bark as above but then chip the lot. Ideal job for my tree shear.
  14. Best of luck. We have a piece of land granted to the farm by Act of Parliament back in 1797 which I have shown was part of the farm records right upto the 1930's and shows as unregistered on the Land Registry records. We where told by the CLA that Land Registry was having a push at getting all land registered so we applied only to be refused as we did not have definitive records from 1930 onwards. We now have to wait 12 years and apply again but with no guarantee of success and even if it was registered it could still be challenged.
  15. Took my private pension as soon as I reached 50 and very pleased I did if I had waited it would be worth less than half of what I am now getting. Already advised my two daughters not to bother with the governments wonderful offer.
  16. I would have thought you would have processed it and used it for kindling. If you want I could dry it for you in my solar kiln ready for kindling processing.
  17. I thought Rowlands only had a 10 inch chipper. PM sent
  18. I hire out my MB Trac with Heizohack chipper but only with operator as I value my chipper. Based in Bolton but cover Manchester / Cheshire area.
  19. I agree Treespotter definitely a backward step in my opinion. I have all my forums I use on a regular basis in my tapatalk directory if Arbtalk is not there it just means I will just wait until I get home and use my main computer. Pain in the butt but I dont fill my phone up with apps
  20. You could borrow my blocking machine which is adjustable to lay compost from 1 inch to 6 inch deep. Dont know whether it would by strong enough for limestone MOT although we have used with gravel before back filling drains.
  21. I have told all tree surgeons I collect for to leave in full lengths. I then cut the overhang off once loaded on the trailer. Only a partial solution as it does not stop those who come armed with a chainsaw.
  22. Why be so negative if you look hard enough you can still find quality British Products. Timber Equipment | Browns Agricultural I have an old Browns sawbench and it is the safest sawbench I have ever used a real quality product. I have also heard good reviews of Browns log splitters but sadly not managed to try one yet.
  23. If anybody needs a log carriage for a Palax Combi I do have a spare but will need a bit of TLC to straighten
  24. I take exception to this. It is nothing like plumbing and safety controls required for a steam engine. As difflock has said so long as you use a laddomat it is a relatively easy job. I installed our Esse cooking stove to heat both DHW and thermal store with a laddomat and it was relatively straightforward which any practical person would be capable of doing.
  25. If its local parish council then get them to put it in writing and then go to the ombudsman. As a newcomer this sort of thing you need to nip in the bud.
