  1. We have a percolated (filter) coffee every morning, made at home and with either cream or half and half. Then, at first smoko its up to one of us to shout a flat white. We're lucky here in Taupo in that we have some of the very best coffee shops and baristas in NZ and there's several places that make outstanding coffee. Not a Starbucks in sight.
  2. I think I've talked my work colleague in to doing a proper trip up to the Redwoods. He was thinking of a quick tour of Muir woods but after I explained how different the trees further up the coast were, he's setting his sights on a road trip next year. Meanwhile, I'm thinking of doing a massive road trip in a couple of years starting in Alaska and finishing in Yosemite. Hopefully this time Mario, I might be able to shout you a beer.
  3. Some lovely gear being posted on here. I'm used to seeing the bigger trucks here in NZ but a lot of the stuff from the UK seems to be much smaller so it's nice to see some heavy duty stuff.
  4. Diazepam and business class!
  5. If you have the cash then jump straight to the 990. They seem to be better than the 90 by more than the extra pennies they cost, if that makes sense. I'd love to get a second hand one but they come up n the market rarely.
  6. 990XP all the way. Most of the contractors here run Bandit and Morbark. Make sure you get the upgraded hydraulic pump and the biggest engine you can. Run the Bandit and the Vermeer side by side if you can or at least test them out in site.
  7. That cloud will most likely be the Ozzies!
  8. Bit of a long shot but does anyone know of, or is a member of, any car mechanics forums? I have a couple of friends here who run a thriving garage in the central north island are looking at bringing out some spanner turners but don't know where to start looking.

    Ideas

I have my main job, then I also run my own tree business and I sell a few photos too.
  10. I can attest to that. Walking through them does actually take your breath away. It shut me up for quite a while and that's pretty hard to do.
  11. I can't really offer much in help being a little far away but nice to read that there are many out there willing to offer a hand up. Here's hoping that things improve in the very near future.
  12. Awesome info thanks Jake and exactly what I was looking for. I'll go ask a few questions tomorrow.
  13. Bit of a hit and hope but I have a large Pepper tree (Schinus molle) which is infested with Psyllids. At the moment it's a case of spray with a shield type spray, await the recovery of the tree then await the return of the little suckers about a month later and repeat. The tree has great sentimental value to the home owners but I would like to decrease the frequency of the spraying and therefor, the associated costs. Any suggestions?
  14. I end up whistling that along with fairy tale of New York when I'm in the city. Can't help myself.
  15. The half fat goats milk tastes similar to the old sterilised milk, which I loved but can't get in NZ. I have at least a pint of cows milk every night and have now moved on to the non homogenised organic stuff. There's some places in NZ that are now doing the raw milk and I'll be in to that given half a chance. At my age I should be getting regular exams anyway but apparently it can all be done by blood test these days so I need to talk to my doctor I think
  16. Back of the chipper, wedged between the upright and the feed table, back of the ute on the tailgate wedged into the corner or the same on the back of the truck. Otherwise, I have a log vice and as a last resort, on the floor but it kills my knees and takes me about half an hour to get up and get the feeling back in my back and legs.
  17. It changes on a monthly basis but currently it's Heroes, David Bowie.
  18. I believe he's talking about setting up his own forum which should keep all parties happy.
  19. I'm slower and more safety conscious. I don't rush to smash the job out anymore; it takes as long as it takes. I'm also trying to practice my SRT as much as I can. Access only at this stage although I've done one work climb I'm still not that comfortable with using if for much more than straight access. I think the biggest change though for me is more about the prep. Making sure my site is set up properly, hazard ID done and we actually have. Proper discussion about what we're going to do and how we're going to do it.
  20. It's a tie. Making brushes (bog brushes, yard brushes, tooth brushes) which was feeding a machine with stocks and bristles and trying not to get your hand punched with bristles and the other was working at Crowthers nurseries in Horncastle pulling up thousands of sapling trees for the FC, sizing, bundling and tying. All in a freezing paddock in winter. Hated it.
  21. Even if the houses were built with the trees already there?
  22. Huck, some of these trees were panted before the houses were built, especially in this case. Granted, they were small but that's how it is. They are also a fair way from the lake and have a good view around. The problem is people want a 180 degree uninterrupted view. They can't handle one tree within that 180 degrees. In other places, there were always trees there such as on lake margins, embankments etc. the land owners have topped the tees over the years for the views (without permission) but as the rules have tightened so the issues come to the fore. I can think of a lot of places around where people have bought or built on reserve edges with trees in situ but these have obviously grown, as trees do. I question how much should be down the prospective buyer of a property in regard to considering what there view could or could not be in the coming years?
  23. Finally a break from the heat and humidity. Absolutely persisted it down today. Might have a touch of trench foot.
  24. PM me your email. I have some from a company I used to work for. They should at the very least give you a starting point.
  25. Whereabouts in Sydney are you Nathan? Any thoughts on maybe staying long term?
