1. once a week with all my other work gear (after my shirts have been soaked in Napisan) on a 40 degree wash. Make sure the pockets are EMPTY!
2. Fantastic stuff for the fire. Well sought after in NZ but split it green as its like concrete when seasoned.
3. Don't procrastinate on the exchange rate. As Goaty says; a few years ago it was horrendous if you were a kiwi and great if you were coming from the UK. Last year the role was reversed. The roads aren't brilliant if you're used to driving everywhere on a motorway. We only have 2 actual motorways and the rest would be equivalent of A or B roads. It's the idiots who drive on them that make them worse. Lots of road rage. I think permits wise it's easier now, especially for arborists as they're classed under the skills shortage. Once you have a visa you can keep applying for extensions as long as you have an employer willing to sponsor you.
4. QUOTE=benedmonds;1385605]Why do trees have to be grown to their maximum size. Every day I go to peoples gardens who say this tree is too big, and we remove it. Where is the problem? Silver birch is the classic example they grow fast but don't respond well to punning. Plant them let them grow for 20-30 years remove them. They need very little maintenance in those early years and provide pleasing all year interest. The alternative would be to try and maintain a trees size by reducing every 5 years which is expensive and the tree ends up butchered. Or just end up planting boring sorbus... I see NOTHING wrong with planting trees with the potential to get huge in your moderately sized garden but planning on removing them after 40 years? If you are really smart and have space you can plan it's replacement and plant a tree 5 years before you plan to remove your original.. I recommend this to many of my customers who live in or near bush sections. rather than continually topping trees to "contain" them i recommend they remove the taller trees and allow the under story to come through. Repeat as necessary once your trees exceed your desired height. It results in a more natural looking surround, reduces maintenance costs and encourages healthy trees.
5. I noticed both in Brooklyn and DC that in several streets trees have lifted pavements badly in many places. Some cobbles are 6 inches above others. I thought it was great to see them left in situ as we have a tendency around my neck of the woods to carry out some serious root pruning before relaying the concrete footpath.
6. Hmmm, a different view point and one I've long since ignored. Maybe need to soften up a little in my old age.
7. If that was the one in Brooklyn Joe; investigation showed no signs, cones, tape, observer. Contractor got the boot.
8. Mine too. I regularly get slammed for not partaking of the Christmas spirit. In fact, apparently, I've ruined Christmas at least once.
9. Our house is definitely not well sealed but thanks for the info. I had wondered. We'll probably look at getting our local builder to set it all up for us so we know it's done right. Have to say also; you do notice a difference with the stove fan. It's not grunty enough to push heat down the the bedroom but when you walk into the kitchen in the morning you can feel the warmth all around the place whereas, before we had the fan it would be warm just around the fire. It is noisy though has a high pitched wine which can be annoying.
10. Bloody local supermarket seems to change toothbrushes more often than I change my socks. I finally find one I like, go in a few weeks later for a new one and its no longer in stock or only in medium or hard. I reckon they just get whatever is on special from the main supplier and sod the customer.
11.
I'll try and call you later if I can. My phone is 0273933691.

12.
Hi Peter, the chipper has been awesome although, since it was damaged in a crash and rebuilt, we've had a cracked bell housing, loose belt and the murphy switch needed replacing. if you're buying you get the one with the bigger hydraulic pump on it. We had a loan one while ours was rebuilt and it didn't feed as well as ours due to a smaller pump on it. The chipper itself has been fantastic. Everything we have ever thrown at it, it does. We also have the winch on it. Service and all dealings with Hydralada have been great but be warned, they know how to charge. If you can find a service agent close to where you are you'll be much better off. Last service was in excess of $2K. Spares are sent our quickly and Steve Cartwright (sales agent) knows his stuff. If you want to come down and have a look at ours, feel free or I believe Paul Kenny also has one and he's a little closer. A guy I worked with used a BC1000 before he came on with us and he reckoned the difference was night and day.

13. I'm on my third pair of Steins. Nice comfy trousers, hard wearing and reasonably priced.
14. New Zealand is still churning them out. Loma was the first of many but there in lies his greatness. He was THE first. No rugby team possessed a guy of his size that could run 100m in around 11 seconds. He could glide and flatten in the same run. Julian Savea is from the same mould. Savea's brother is a flanker and just as big and fast. Jon, if you get chance, watch some of the ITM cup or the NZ teams in the Super 15. Some fantastic running rugby the like of which Lomu would have been proud.
15. I also liked the bulk of the speech except this part. I have several Muslim friends who constantly feel they have to defend themselves after every ISIS attack.
16. Ring every arb company in the book. I'm sure there will be plenty who are keen for the cheap labour and would quite happily offer some training etc in return.
17. Not sure whether it's right or wrong but I always tend to use a nice small file to "put the hook" back in the tooth if I can't get it sharp after a couple of goes. Always seems to work and especially after I've clouted something hard.
18. So drained both the 261 and the 460 that also got a lung full. Left em upside down overnight and pulled them over a few times to clear out the chamber. Fresh fuel and a little cap full down the plug hole and away they went. Thanks guys.
19. I have a friend who would love this. Very much into her earthy links etc.
20. Cheers bro, currently upside down in the garage "draining" and "drying".
21. Currently resembles the mess around the oil filler on a car with a blown head I.e. Milky gunk.
22. I've pulled the plug, pulled it over and cranks fine. Currently in the garage drying out. I'll drain the tank and put some fresh fuel through it tomorrow.
23. While abseiling down a cliff face to clear a log from a stream, I managed to dunk the saw, while running, in the stream. Fully submersed. Is this gonna be a carb strip down job or is there a simpler way to get it up and running?
24. Something different. Abseiling in to The Grotto at Rangipo-Hautu Prison for Department of Conservation. At the lip of the waterfall is a sunken log, jammed between the rock faces. This was preventing trout from reaching spawning grounds further up steam. My job; stand waste deep in mountain run off water and try and free the log. It was also persisting down. So, two flooded saws and one very wet me later, no joy. I did manage to cut the log through but it was too deep and too well packed to get out.
