  1. we have carried out some retrenching on some big old oaks which has had a good result of forcing the tree to develop a lower internal canopy so as the top is reduced over several visits the tree still has a good leaf structure to feed itsels and minimise stress. It is topping but in slow motion and when done well will mean a tree that outherwise would be removed can be retained and managed but like anything it has to be the right tree in the right location.
  2. Same as above with the straps, Gustharts got me a set ofleather botom straps bolts to fit them. 10 min later i had spikes that felt safer and never shift back.
  3. Sod that, way to cold! its not when in thats the problem its when you stop and start to get out the cold hits you and you start to wounder why..... why me.....
  4. Ahh just been looking for some to grace the 6ton winch on the front of my new truck but as not sure of its true pull aint ordered any yet and the prices can be shocking. Bet the lad in the water was happy when all was finished and he got to get walmed up, was it a short straw day for him?
  5. Just love that winch you lads have, I had a good look at it when it was parked up in the farm down the road to me a month or so ago, I would hate to have to pay for a replacement plasma line for it as must be well over £750 for that size.
  6. A good tip I got (prob on here) is fill the bolt heads and around them with silocone sealer which is easier to clean out than hard dry sap when next changing them.
  7. Tw blades are the hardest to change out of any chipper i have worked on (quickchip, vermeer, greenmech, farmi, jankari,tp, and the german 1 that starts with s that i can not spell) out of all of then they are the biggest pain if the bolt head gets damaged also prob changed more main bairings in them than any outher brand. all said still a good chipper but much prefer my quadchip. fuel consumption can vary so much depending on if you stack then chip in little bursts or just leave it running and how much full size timber go's in, some times a tank can do me a week of normal work filling the landy every day and some days we are running on fuemes by 5pm on a clearance job. Tw are also a pain for the radiator getting blocked with fine dust and overheating so plan in time to keep on top of that.
  8. Might be a girls, they can have chippers too!! Steven is that mog got air springs on the back or just sat on its arse with all that mettle on the back?
