  1. Ha ha. Sorry to be confusing. I'll try again. As far as I remember, using the petzl ZZ, I climbed arm over arm and pulled the tail of rope through. With a bit if height it would self tend. But I don't remember if by just pulling on the tail of rope below the ZZ would ascend it up the rope. But using the hybrid does ascend it up the rope. But only if the ZZ part is set up backwards, with the button pointing out. When it is set up the normal way, button inwards, it just sits there when you pull the tail. It doesn't move.
  2. Sorry probably wrong wording. The ZZ ascends up the rope by pulling the tail of rope below ZZ. But when it's set up the normal way, button pointing inwards, it doesn't ascend up by pulling the tail.
  3. Well I don't think Petzl will want my ZZ back now. Pic 1 is with the ZZ the normal way round, button pointing inwards. It works ok like this but doesn't self tend when pulling on the tail of the rope. Pic 2 is flipped over and set up with the ZZ the other way round, button pointing outwards. I think its much better like this. For a start it self tends when pulling on the tail of rope. Second, it just keeps the button away from the rope/knot. I never found it to be a problem with the original ZZ anyway though. Anyway, its reversible and can be tested for preferences. Its also better with the krab in the top hole but obviously that does make the knot closer to the ZZ. I just wish I had a Hitch hiker now to see if thats hybrid-able too:thumbup1:
  4. Do you miss the swivel on the ZZ much. I remember one of the ZZ threads about the swivel not being smooth under load. I found if more useful to be stiff but directional so that I could turn it for left or right hand use and it stayed put until moved for next position.
  5. I wonder if DMM would allow Petzl to combine the two parts. That would be an interesting mix of companies!
  6. I would assume it would be buggered. But not going to just snap and give up. Just bent. Just playing with mine, there is quite a lot of sideways play in the ZZ so it would probably tolerate a bit of a swing. Untested though by the looks of things. It would be nice to be available in separate parts to replace the parts as required. Especially if the pulley part is like the HC.
  7. I wonder where petzl are right now with their R+D of the ZZ2. If they were just going to strengthen the old one then hopefully this will stop them in their tracks. As soon as the ZZ came out we were talking about how it would have been a better design to have the few holes like hitch climber. Just looking at my two bits (ZZ & HC). How did you (Paul Knight) remove the pin from the HC. Does it just pop out with a bit of careful banging? And have you used the same bit banged back in again. Just looking at the geometry of the HC and the ZZ added on looks like it might be better for SRT use as well. There doesn't seem to be the same ridges of alloy that were getting chewed when in SRT without a rope wrench.
  8. I've had my returns envelope sat on the bench for about two weeks now and was just about to send it off this morning. Glad I didn't now. I might be tempted with a try of this. I never use my hitch climber anyway.
  9. Have you still got any cameras up. Any idea of vehicles or number of guys etc. Glad they didn't get it and by looks of pics haven't actually damaged stuff.
  10. I was just thinking the same thing. But really the rubber thingies should do the same thing really wouldn't they. I've never used them so not sure how reliable they are. Another thing I was wondering about. Have any strength tests been done on a hitchclimber for example. If the top hole got cross loaded in the same way, surely it's possible that it would be considerably weaker than the rating that it has under a normal straight load.
  11. I did suggest this a while ago on the other ZZ thread. I was then fortunately reminded about how hard it would be to untie the knot after load.
  12. I agree. We were discussing 'the warning' today but I still had to praise it over and over. I did use the little loop and it didn't really make any noticeable difference at all.
  13. No I don't expect it to happen either. Loop can be used just to be sure although it would be slightly in the way sometimes as obviously it won't rotate fully. If anything at all I would be more inclined to be worried about the rivets popping and the ball pulling out. That really would be freefall then!!! But I don't expect that to happen either.
  14. I haven't got anything on my top krab to hold it in place so once or twice it had moved down the spine and if it was quickly loaded I suppose it could twist the gold loop. But whether it would just snap it instead of bending it is where the problem is I suppose.
  15. I use a Yosemite bowline when climbing up into tree so that I can do quick changes then tie fishermans when on main and final anchor. It's fine if its tied one way. Never had it catch at all. If you tie it 180 degrees round it does get in the way a bit. Cheers for heads up though. I do know what you mean but I've tried it over and over and it seems fine. When I first got ZZ I read that about the knot being close to the ZZ bits and thought about a krab to krab using the little sewn loop but I don't think it needs it after trying with fishermans.
  16. I have in mine too. But better to be even more confident....
  17. Or... How recently has the grass been cut or crap been cleared.
  18. Lovely climbing boots. Not sure about just a grounding boot. That are a bit clumpy and I'm sure for walking you could find a comfy and cheaper boot. But climbing ... Not much better really.
  19. Not really bending much after lots of use. That's what's so good about them I think. Love being able to stick my toe on a little notch and can stand on it. Just like ice climbing boots. Last for ages, until soles wear out. Well over 2 yrs now for mine and still got them on. And the best boots I've used on spikes.
  20. Absolutely!! She wasn't a dictator. Not like tony was aiming for.
  21. What's the drift HD like on batteries via the new gopro seems pretty pathetic from my first uses of one. Only got about 2hrs max.
  22. I don't think the parts will be very expensive. When I had an entec I got parts from these guys and got a quick turn around. http://www.uni-power.co.uk/
  23. I've heard something like that before somewhere I think... Somewhere. Can't remember when or where but might be worth a try. Can't imagine it would do any harm.
  24. Wouldn't be without my wire flip line. But not because I think it might be saw proof. Purely because its so much easier and quicker to move and use. And a bit more silky proof too. But defo don't trust sticking a saw into it.
