  1. Agreed. I think I'll get the deposit down:thumbup:
  2. I've got about a day or so before I have to make a decision. Thanks for any advice from everyone which has helped, I just can't stand making decisions like this about my main work truck.
  3. Well, I'm hearing what I want to hear and I agree. But... Do you not get a bit pee'd off with it being a bit cramped, a bit of a brick to drive(compared with my cabstar with wheels right at front etc), and of course a bit leaky and ... Dare I say it... Breaking down a lot more often. I'm not trying to put yours down in anyway whatsoever!!! I have seen pictures on here and is one that gives me the desire for one. But I've just not dared to buy one. I had an old old non turbo falling to bits thing about 15years ago but I fear I may have blocked out too many of the memories!
  4. Yes we have done that on a few occasions. And I thought about a tipping trailer too which can be pulled about with chipper. But it's a bit slow and I worry about whether the pump will hold out. I have a hilux crew cab too but I just can't decide whether a defender will annoy me with mainly road driving. And the repairs. Cabstar was really reliable.
  5. I'm definitely wanting one more than anything else. Now that my cabstar is definitely classed as a total loss, I have to make a decision quickly. Which is strangely hard because I wanted a 130 ages ago. It's the same old problem. There isn't one perfect arb truck. A selection is obviously better...
  6. That's the problem. I don't go off road that much. But basically cos I can't. I'm trying to persuade myself to get the landy but I'm dreading the constant repairs that I keep getting warned about. Plus, a landy is hardly the comfiest of things to drive if I remember correctly.
  7. Im glad I've asked the question about pulling power of a defender which it seems is not a problem. If it is, get it chipped a bit. Not too much so I don't rag the bits and bobs to bits and pieces. But I keep wondering whether I might be better with a new cabstar for not far off the same money. I've got a transit as a replacement at the moment which does pull quite well but it's wide. That's one reason I like the cabstar. And obviously neither have 4x4. Please can somebody just make a decision for me!!!
  8. Never seen one of those. Handy piece of kit for certain jobs. But why didn't you grind them.
  9. I am told the payload could be 1200 ish but I don't know for sure. So yes you have a point. A full 5cube might be a bit too much. But I was just trying to give a comparison for others to have some idea.
  10. I hadn't thought about chipping it. 200 horses should do it! Cheers
  11. I'm looking for a bit of advice from anybody who uses a defender 130 and pulls a tracked chipper. I've just had my cabstar probably written off so need to get another vehicle soon. I've been wanting a defender tipper for a while now and am nearly decided on one with td5 engine. However, I have heard that it might struggle pulling the chipper and trailer.(2 ton) with a decent full load in the back (5cubic metres) and tools etc. Cheers. Hope to hear some good news!!!
  12. Maybe a dead twig poked into the loop and cinched tight would take a bit if load... Only jesting
  13. Dean, I have to say I'm not working in this heat. Through injury though, but it's still too hot given the choice. I'll be probably opting for ice lolly though not ice cream.
  14. I regularly wish I was still kite surfing and going bigger and harder on my mountain bike but mortgage and work did slow me down. But I'm getting itchy feet with the kite surfing again lately. I'll just have to not hurt myself next time. Anyway, I'm too scared to get a bike for this very reason. I know I'll get hurt!!
  15. Great information. Thanks very much. I think the 12 rungs will do. I didn't know that there were 16 ones but that might be a touch too big and numb!!! And then I'll start persuading myself to get a small sett too.
  16. I've been thinking about buying tripod ladders for a while now. Definitely want the three adjustable legs and have always thought I may as well just get the biggest ones. (12rungs) But thats where I wanted some advice from current users. Will the big ones still be ok to do the smaller hedges etc. I am sure that it would be better to have some small ones as well but was hoping to get away with just one set. Any advice?? Cheers
  17. What's at the back of that. Is it strong enough to push up against it with loader?
  18. How big is the polytunnel going to be. Could you get a tractor in. I Keep thinking of doing one but want to drive into it. And also not spend a fortune obviously.
  19. Grass cuttings speeds up the break down of woodchip. Turns it more composty much quicker.
  20. I agree. I was just having a play to see how the mechanism coped in SRT. But like I said. There is room for improvement.
  21. There is definitely room for improvement with the hybrid but it is very good. 1. I just think it needs balancing a bit somehow. 2. Make sure it can be used for hauling like the HC can. 3. Make it useable in SRT. 4. Obviously make sure it won't break like the original ZZ! I did have a little play SRT (leaning off the chipper) and its a bit stiff and jumpy. But it doesn't knacker and bend the metal like it would on original ZZ. There is definitely room for improvement though in my opinion. Yes I will almost definitely buy a mk2. Unless DMM or similar beat them to it.
  22. Bolt? - same as above. Def not your average 8.whatever!! Look of HC is as last photo for mine too. Slightly angled so balance could be improved with a redesign. I haven't used a HC for a long time but it feels good. I liked it. As for hauling. I think the only way it will work well for that is if it is set up like the first pic on page 1 from the OP. I just wish I could have a few more of those 'old' ZZ's from petzl to keep having a play with.
  23. Same for me today. Well pleased with it.
