  12. Things breaking at the wrong time! After delivering a load of logs this afternoon down the end of a small dead end lane at about 430 today I saw an old telehandler coming down the lane towards me ,no lights or glass ect nothing unusual round these parts and as he went to pull up on the verge it just stopped and my old nextdoor neighbour jumped out looking flustered walked up and said "oh i am glad its you". Then I spent the next fourty five minutes in the dark and rain getting covered in diesel. Turns out he just brought the handler and pulled it out of the brambles as it had not been moved for six years.Older boys like him ought to know really Friday afternoon just before dark is not the time to do jobs like this. Dont spose he cares the handler has got a 4 ton lift and 9m reach and he gave 300 quid for it the jammy git
  13. Have to agree with Rich if i see a reduce and thin I ignore the thin, the client will be none the wiser.
  14. A lord works for me is with cornish mutual 19 yars old and paying 700 for a suzuki sj on a comercial policy, might be worth trying
  15. What a great idea, how many people would take on a lad if it was not going to cost the earth.Once you shoe and clothe them the outlay would be minimal not that it would be 29 pound a week any more, and what a great chance for school leavers to spend a year or two in the industry, just being on site and gaing experience and a few quals would be a great way to get into a notoriosly difficult industry to get into. To get to 18 with a couple of quals and a few years exp gotta be a headstart.Even just being in the workiing environment and cutting the apron strings.I have had enough calls from mums asking for a job for there lad(thats a fall at the first hurdle)or the ones I have tried mummy ring up to say they wont be in because they are sick.(its raining today)
  16. Hi Tom could you give me a ring re this van am based beyween tiv and wellington, thanks Steve 07855 316780

  17. Got mine and was working on a steep forest bank for a couple of weeks and wondered what the hell I had got, they were as stiff as a board.I was thinking the emperors new clothes everyone raved about them but were awfull to wear, just too hard and rubbed. However got back on the flat wore them in and love em now, climbed in them yesterday on an fiddly oak reduction and all good.Spikey bits on the bottom? great in the woods but got some dismanteling this week will have to come off for the spikes I reckon.
  18. I did the takeaway one myself the other day ordered a curry gave them my address and asked them to pick me up in the pub on the way past. I did hear of one guy recently had a load of subbies on doing a job behind a pub and insisted they dont eat there sarnies and go inside and chose whatever they wanted of the menu only to deduct what each person had had at the end of the day.
  19. Personally would not even dream of going down that route untill at least 10 years in the biz , 3 years still preety much a greenhorn, old apprentiships used to be 4 years
  20. The so called millers love it i am sure but personally have given up on offering sticks, felled a blue cedar in the spring could not get rid,one joker wanted 250 to take it away ,it was a lovely straight 7m stick wich took the 66 to ring up and is now in my shed in lots of little bits
  21. Certainly came across as alot of people out of thier depth.Crane felling can be great and real glory work making the climber look cool whan has not really got much to do.Get it wrong and you will have a seriously bad day.
