  1. Hi Tom could you give me a ring re this van am based beyween tiv and wellington, thanks Steve 07855 316780

  2. Got mine and was working on a steep forest bank for a couple of weeks and wondered what the hell I had got, they were as stiff as a board.I was thinking the emperors new clothes everyone raved about them but were awfull to wear, just too hard and rubbed. However got back on the flat wore them in and love em now, climbed in them yesterday on an fiddly oak reduction and all good.Spikey bits on the bottom? great in the woods but got some dismanteling this week will have to come off for the spikes I reckon.
  3. I did the takeaway one myself the other day ordered a curry gave them my address and asked them to pick me up in the pub on the way past. I did hear of one guy recently had a load of subbies on doing a job behind a pub and insisted they dont eat there sarnies and go inside and chose whatever they wanted of the menu only to deduct what each person had had at the end of the day.
  4. Personally would not even dream of going down that route untill at least 10 years in the biz , 3 years still preety much a greenhorn, old apprentiships used to be 4 years
  5. The so called millers love it i am sure but personally have given up on offering sticks, felled a blue cedar in the spring could not get rid,one joker wanted 250 to take it away ,it was a lovely straight 7m stick wich took the 66 to ring up and is now in my shed in lots of little bits
  6. Certainly came across as alot of people out of thier depth.Crane felling can be great and real glory work making the climber look cool whan has not really got much to do.Get it wrong and you will have a seriously bad day.
  7. Tom ,windy smithy is only up at Dunkeswell pop up and see him you might even get him to ma ke a bespoke one to fit your requirements, despite his nickname he is a sound bloke.
  8. You might struggle to get a windy smithy one straight away I saw John Snow on sunday and he reckons he can not build them fast enough at the moment, might be able to put a word in though.
  9. deer man, single from the top of the burner to about a foot from the ceiling, may have been lucky finds one of the sections even had a cowl on the top and the joiner clips arent cheap either, had to buy them.
  10. Got a 10kw with a back boiler running six rads and heating the hot water in a static and people ask if i am cold .My advice would be fire board and fireboard once these things go up thats it. As for the flue keep your eyes open once I had decided to put one in I found 3m of selkirk twin lined flue in a week behind customers sheds ect. Put one in you will never regret it.
  11. If the tree is retained or not there is a definate posibility someone is going to turn up to work and given the dubious pleasure of felling it.Does this council use there own arb team or outside contractors? With such strong feeling about it would you want to turn up in liveried trucks and get in the local and national rags?
  12. Brushcutter and Spraying operatives Devon/Somerset border, tickets required.Self employed basis ,pm for details.
  13. It does apear there might be a dodgy batch of 201,s about or the saw was not ready for launch .
  14. Have had quite a bit of trouble myself this year getting money out of people I have subbied for and have heard every excuse under the sun some of them absolute crackers.I dont need to hear excuses its not forgotten homework it is my livelyhood. The problem I think is the margins are alot tighter and too many people giving it a go at the contracts. There was a time when putting the paperwork required to tender for bigger jobs meant something these days an eight year old child could download all the method statements and health and safety policies ect put your company name on it and your off having not a clue what any of it says or means. Just because you have access to finance kit wether this be from the bank of mum and dad or elsewhere and think an nd is enough training and have read forestry journal and arbtalk ect does not make you a contractor
  15. Repeatedly snapping chains on a saw is usually a sign of a worn sprocket, common on ms200s
  16. For sure its going to be a cracker , the guy on the husky stand at saltex said it wont have the rev boost ,they apparently had trouble with it back fireing when the revs dropped.
  17. Was stuck in the mud for years climbing with just a prussic but had tried to get the hitch climber to work but could not get on with it. Was doing a job with Rich Rule and was chatting about it he set it up for me and havent really looked back since. You have got to try new things, had a go with different spikes back along and can only say completeley changed the way i climb with them and was on the phone to honeys soon after.I also believe the working life span of a climber is much longer due to the advancement in the kit we use.
  18. Hi ,what size are the stumps/stump give me a ring ,Steve 07855 316780

  19. TMT I am not too far away from you and heared the police helecopter hovering about in the early hours, some other poor bugger getting robbed ,was too lazy to get out of bed to check it wasnt me.
  20. Hi I have cscs card and most nptc,s available based in somerset but have no problems working away plenty of experience, Steve 07855 316780

  21. A guy I used to know turned up to do a large felling and a film crew were filming in the property next door they asked him to stop,he managed tp negotiate a very hansome fee to pack up and go home.
  22. Log ot up,have been messed around so much by so called millers who dont turn up when agreed or want the timber for nowt
  23. Sorry to hear your situation, the buisness in the south west has definateley become more seasonal as the years go on.Unfortunately this time of year the better climbers and subbies will suffer if a company can save a few pounds a day they will and have to.I have nearly two decades of experience and nearly every ticket going but things do slow right up this time of year which is nothing short of a pain in the ass after a hard winters work.As stated in previous posts take it on the chin and try to make the best of it your employer will remember you for that.
  24. Awsome ,have seen some old school posters of this guy doing some massive trees.
  25. Done, cheers tc and cheers arbtalk, was going to have the day off have dentist in a mo,a nice bunce for the weekend.
