Yes you do need the rolo test. It came into effect in October. The test is basically the same as the citb hs&e test as is the content. Have a look on the BALI website under ROLO providers.

I've seen a video on youtube by a firm that does soil stabilisation on farm tracks and forest roads. I think the firm is Golding brothers?

If you're not sure what it is, just leave it. It will be on the cutting cycle of the DNO, who carry out the work for free with utility qualified staff. Not what you want to hear but at least you live to cut another tree on another day.

Just beware if you do go self-employed and it doesn't work out for whatever reason and you try to get JSA or whatever; you might get knocked back for it as you will have paid the "wrong" national insurance contributions.
