  1. thats one of the worst mess up vids ive seen, you know its bad when had they completely nailed the fell bang on it would have still been a really dangerous and irresponsible fell.
  2. forget tree work, just watched the documentary on the collapse of the royal bank of Scotland!!!! so iam now going to try and run a bank, worst case scenario, run up debts to the tune of a trillion pounds(whatever that is) that the taxpayer will cover , then retire on massive pension , job done...... and people moan about lazy people on the dole costing the taxpayer. what an unbelievable scam.
  3. roof of the truck ladders, stepladder, single double being held or not. the top of a tracked chipper polesaw with trimmer head. anything really. i thing off a step ladder is fine if its stable.
  4. or they read your posts on what they should be earning!!
  5. i downrated an old dodge 50 camper from 5.6 ton to 3.5 . i used a company called SVTECH , simple enough i just had to wiegh it then they sent out packers to fit under the bump stops, then i just got it tested and replated, this was about 15 years ago so i could be different now.
  6. i think to get certified is tricky, i think you have to be certified by each rope manufacture, iam sure there are people on here who know more about it.
  7. what was that!?? did you say somthing about a 346xp
  8. id say go with a husky 550, dunno where you are in ireland but arborist.ie in cork are ok on price or honey brothers in uk ship stuff to ireland very quickly. id go new if you can as some problems with saws dont show up until they have been used a bit so can be hard to spot.

    Spikes

distel geckos seem to be well liked by a lot of people on here, no complaints with mine.
  10. you do get better holding wood lower down with buttress wood etc, but if its an easy fell i just cut it higher as more comfortable, no point groveling around and digging with the saw if you dont have to imo.
  11. not really that bad is it? seen a lot worse.....not mine of course
  12. when assecnding with your foot and knee asscenders if you stop and sit back so your wieght is taken by your hitch and rope wrench then all the rope below that should be slack and just a case of flicking open the cams of your asscenders, maybe i have missread your post though. you could get a patin foot asscender like mine it seems only too happy to pop off the rope at any given point! carl
  13. Zulu on the shopping list? just googled that. pretty cool machine although £900+vat for a gear lever knob!!! makes me think its probably not for tree surgeons!
  14. interesting point joe , although i wonder how likley it would be that someone would chose srt as a method of rescue, i guess if there was a pre installed single line then yes, but the idea of being injured and looking to down to see the rescuer rooting around there kit bag looking for all their srt gear to don, then theres the throwline to deal with under pressure!!! obviously its tree and situation dependent. on a side note did you feel the refresher was worth doing aside from a box ticking aspect? probably should do one myself. thanks carl.
  15. might be handier to just get a few standard 5l plastic petrol cans, 25l of petrol is a lot to have about.

    Stihl MSA161

i suppose around the 3 to 4 inch mark, obviously if theres the odd cut up to max bar length then thats fine, but lots of them then id grab a bigger saw, not sure if this is right or wrong but as i like it for pruning i dont really want to bugger it up trying to hammer it through big cuts, plus its not my own saw.

    Stihl MSA161

we also have the older version, i love it for pruning but i dont think big cuts are where its at, so id stick a short bar on it.
  18. they may well pick an easy tree, id just use the gear and techniques you learnt on the course, keep it simple and dont try and rush. also just check all your gear is good to go the night before.
  19. with your level of experience its unlikley your going to dazzle them with your skills so just take your time and ask questions and work safely your attitude , keenness and learning potential is probably what they will be looking for. bring biscuits to share good luck. carl
  20. i like "zing it" not tried many others though so cant really compare, strong too!
  21. bad news id say , as for me the basic and reliable engines are the main attraction of the echos, i feel the antivibes and chainbrakes and performance is behind compared to stihls and huskys but they plod on. hope they nail the auto tune though. carl
  22. probably gonna be the last reg coats reduction vid we are going to see for while!!
  23. did one a while back, thanks to the info and advice here on arbtalk, saw is fine now with no running issues, easy enough to do.
