  1. If a tree that size in that position caused heave there would be an awful lot of us in big trouble!
  2. You've let yourself down with that mistake.
  3. So is it best to use something like a 660 or 395 for everything everyday then ? I would prefer to use something lighter, more powerful with better ergonomics and replace it more often.
  4. Loads of people don't have manners, I think someone said the same back in the olden Greek times. Today mobile phones, yesterday it was ipods, walkmans, ghetto blasters, etc. Yes they are ignorant gits no matter what.
  5. Nearly 4000 calories just from working! Jeshhh what do you eat? I have one on my phone but it is very inacurrate, if you vibrate the phone your in running mode so I don't bother with this one but yours is probably a lot more accurate if it's a dedicated device. Mark, obviously running or else they would be out of work.
  6. Depends hugely on who/what your customer base is imo. If a lot of your work is domestic, working class customers then vat would cause you to lose work. I have always stayed under it and as a two man/three man now and then team you can make good money. I must say you do have to love some of the facts in this thread, some of them would send you straight to jail.
  7. Looks like your going to have to have a lick of it to confirm. All in the interests of knowledge.
  8. Interesting thread. You could argue that if you use the right mewp and work it properly then there should be no reason for the mewp to fail, therefore it is the safest way to work. I have known a couple of mewp fatalities but they have been down to poor maintenance. I have always prefered working from a rope and harness and hope it will be a practice that we will see in the future but, I think there is a good chance that one day it will be considered 'bad' practice.
  9. My thoughts exactly, stupid test means nothing. Costa tastes great imo plus it's only a couple of quid so hardly a big deal.
  10. I think it's called the Wile E Coyote cut. Looney tunes have covered this quite a few times in their instructional videos. Bob's idea was the best, get a midget to do it.
  11. Just a quick one, in general a single malt is better than a blended malt?
  12. Better than a cheap one which is all that matters to me really.
  13. That fairly impressive then. Do you have the same hole drilled into the rear handle of a 550xp? I would.
  14. Is there no need to have any additional clamping force stuff other than the pop springy thing?
  15. T540xp, 560xp, ms660, are what I use, if I have to add 2 more it would be a 200t and an 046. 200t will have undoubtfully earned me the most money over the years.
  16. Good Friday well beats bank holiday Monday hands down. I know it's a double bonus this weekend thanks to some bloke who got nailed to a tree but a Friday out of work is quite brilliant.
  17. I just don't see the point in using a cheap chain unless it it's just as good as an expressive one for normal everyday professional use. Why would I want to use a top pro saw that doesn't cut as well as it should? Ok if it's getting used on poor jobs where the chain is getting battered every 5 minutes otherwise no chance.
  18. No need, my mum gives me medals all the time so I have plenty in my bedroom. I did mean to put a link up that would have made my post a bit less arsey Rotatech B2SFT 72 Drive Links Chain - Northern ARB Supplies
  19. The only way is to go round to see what the problem is and sort it out. ie is it bent or not for a start. Did you pay him for lending his saw? If not he might be a bit pissed if you gave him a saw back that cuts round corners whether its a bad chain or bent bar. Im with Steve in regards to lending equipment, there is no issue if its sorted out before hand and both parties look after and know how to use the gear. Ive helped loads of people out in the past and plan to do in the future by lending equipment out.
  20. Ditto.
  21. Hmmm, there is getting a job done, and no doubt this guy did it, although there were a few fines lines between success and snuff video imo, and doing a professional job. Getting it down and cut up does not constitute a pro job, my nan could do that and she hasn't been a pro since the war. I think the vid is ace and like his ingenuity but it looked like bloody hard work.
  22. I've just found it in about 30 seconds.
  23. It seems that a lot of people really have no clue as to what chain they are using! A standard 550/560 are exactly the same ie .325 pitch 1.5mm gauge.
  24. That's brilliant.
  25. They look very smart. Reminds me I should get back into splicing as with the right rope it is a bit therapeutic.
