  1. Yep I bet they have a couple of grand cut off point, over XXX they will look into things, that is when most of us are probably screwed. In all honesty though can you blame them? BTW im not defending insurance companies, they are up on my list alongside solicitors.
  2. He he, just been reading this thread, not sure if the original question had been answered so I checked it out. The OP should know the difference, "That's not a knife.....that's a file"
  3. Just pop a flag on top.
  4. A mate has a dewalt one, brilliant bit of kit. Not cheap but he swears by it.
  5. Just charge £20 an hour and sub jonny69 in. I doubt the wood will be worth more than feck all.
  6. I think people need to put some of their own personal feelings aside when it comes to business. Just because you think it is desperate etc doesn't mean everyone else thinks the same. Look at BT,british gas, scottish power etc. They make loads of money by just phoning customers out of the blue. Why not try it for say the next twenty quotes that you havent heard back from? Just get a bit of phone spiel written down first so it doesnt come out as "Why havent you called me back to sort the work out!!"
  7. I'm just too lazy to even think about chasing up quotes. I cba quoting in the first place so there is no chance of following it up. Seriously it can be worth while even if it's for market research.
  8. Lesson learned. Best to drive to the shop in future eh.
  9. Ditto. I've made some stupid costly mistakes but it's been my time and money lost. I remember them when someone else does the same with my time and money.
  10. If a tree that size in that position caused heave there would be an awful lot of us in big trouble!
  11. You've let yourself down with that mistake.
  12. So is it best to use something like a 660 or 395 for everything everyday then ? I would prefer to use something lighter, more powerful with better ergonomics and replace it more often.
  13. Loads of people don't have manners, I think someone said the same back in the olden Greek times. Today mobile phones, yesterday it was ipods, walkmans, ghetto blasters, etc. Yes they are ignorant gits no matter what.
  14. Nearly 4000 calories just from working! Jeshhh what do you eat? I have one on my phone but it is very inacurrate, if you vibrate the phone your in running mode so I don't bother with this one but yours is probably a lot more accurate if it's a dedicated device. Mark, obviously running or else they would be out of work.
  15. Depends hugely on who/what your customer base is imo. If a lot of your work is domestic, working class customers then vat would cause you to lose work. I have always stayed under it and as a two man/three man now and then team you can make good money. I must say you do have to love some of the facts in this thread, some of them would send you straight to jail.
  16. Looks like your going to have to have a lick of it to confirm. All in the interests of knowledge.
  17. Interesting thread. You could argue that if you use the right mewp and work it properly then there should be no reason for the mewp to fail, therefore it is the safest way to work. I have known a couple of mewp fatalities but they have been down to poor maintenance. I have always prefered working from a rope and harness and hope it will be a practice that we will see in the future but, I think there is a good chance that one day it will be considered 'bad' practice.
  18. My thoughts exactly, stupid test means nothing. Costa tastes great imo plus it's only a couple of quid so hardly a big deal.
  19. I think it's called the Wile E Coyote cut. Looney tunes have covered this quite a few times in their instructional videos. Bob's idea was the best, get a midget to do it.
  20. Just a quick one, in general a single malt is better than a blended malt?
  21. Better than a cheap one which is all that matters to me really.
  22. That fairly impressive then. Do you have the same hole drilled into the rear handle of a 550xp? I would.
  23. Is there no need to have any additional clamping force stuff other than the pop springy thing?
  24. T540xp, 560xp, ms660, are what I use, if I have to add 2 more it would be a 200t and an 046. 200t will have undoubtfully earned me the most money over the years.
