If you are looking st the key and throttle side of the engine (call it the front) then on the left hand side near the bottom there should be a little heatsink looking type of electrical thing(technical I know:001_tongue:) that has 3 wires in a block connected to it. This is the feed from the stator plate that usually also powers the autofeed system ie it tells the autofeed what rpm the engine is at. Try cleaning the terminals and checking the wiring. Your autofeed system might be different though but worth a shot since if its intermittent it is probably an electrical fault.
  3. The problem I see with AA aproval between small and large firms is that in a small firm the guys/gals getting assesed will be the ones carrying out the work. A large company gets AA aproval and within a a couple of years there staff have turned around and it isnt the same ones who got the approval, I you understand what I'm saying:confused1: There could be a pricing structure so its cheaper for smaller firms but it escalates depending on number of employees because the AA should re asse(sp?) them more often to ensure they are keeping up with good practice etc. It would also hopefully help improve the quality of work in the larger companies which as most of us know is usually at a more poor standard than smaller firms. Reading through my post I realise my standard of grammer is fairly poor, but I'm sure you get my drift
  4. As a rough and quick way to check he hasnt trashed the pot and piston will the saw hang under its own weight by holding the starter handle? If it just falls to the floor without much jerking action() on the starter cord then it could be really low on compression and fooked. If it seems ok and its sparking then probably a problem with carb but I would check fuel line for split and fuel filter for blockage(unlikely after an hour) first.

I see your point and tbh theres no way I would dig that much without a mini digger, it would no doubt also be a lot more cost effective than digging by hand sinc err thats why they were invented But, might the pain not just be the fact that you are using different muscles etc and your body needs time to adjust to it? I know when I first started climbing my hands would ache alot and this was for months, they soon got used to it though. IMO everyone shouldnt cry Health and safety at the opportunity ie hard work! I know the OP didnt do that and is just looking for some decent gloves which sry I cant help you with it was just aimed at Arbocop comments (not offense intented btw )
  7. How did you manage to wreck it without abusing it? If you do hire gear out just make sure that at the least they have it insured if it goes missing! I only hire out to mates who I can trust.

Prob quite a few jacked it in, well for the time being since work is slow:thumbdown: I doubt Dean would pack it in just because of a tacho its more to do with every little thing that needs doing which all add up. How many road workers,builders, construction workers etc need a tacho but dont care and wont get one. Besides I think its rediculous that you require a tacho if you are moving X but dont if you are moving Y:confused1: If a tacho is there to keep a check on driving hours what does it matter what you are towing and why:confused1: I think SWB deffo has the right idea with his mini chipper, no EA license, no Operators license, no tacho, no worrying about being over weight etc etc etc etc

  12. Brittle at this time of the year maybe. On side leaners I always have a thicker hinge at one end, the end you hope it goes towards:001_smile: can go quite thin on the opposite side, syc is snappy though. As Mozza says if nothing got damaged it went according to plan.
  13. Doesnt really apply to most tree people though does it. Dont really see why we should all get tachos fitted (dunno the cost and dont care tbh) get them calibrated and keep records for a poxy bit of driving through out the day when some muppet can tow a 20 foot+ caravan from lands end to john o groats with his family in tow and no one gives a feck. Any tree firm doing a bit of serious timber hauling will have a 7.5+ tonner and have a tach fitted anyway.

  15. Looks like a big lump! Theres no way I would be looking forward to chucking that lot onto a transit. Especially one without a tacho:001_tongue:
  16. What about that part. The tools are for the driver and the log and chip belong to the passenger! Gonna be bad news if we all have to get tacho's fitted:thumbdown: Is it for trailers only or do chippers also come under that too? Another nail in the coffin for your average hard working bloke!

  21. Takes me more than a couple of minutes to sort out a badly damaged full chisel on a 36" bar. Hence why I carry spares. Just touching up a chain doesnt take long but when its been hammered and needs a couple of mm taking off and the rakers doing its just quicker and easier to swap it over. Each to there own though.
  22. If your going to be pulling a 2 ton chipper all day with it then I would look at getting the transit chipped to give it a bit more power.
  23. No it aint. A chain getting battered by a bit of stone in some timber takes ages to resharpen. Always have spare chains at hand for this type of situation.
  24. Get it done. A snapped cam belt is way more costly than a service interval one. Tbh Its best to change em at 36,000 no matter what the manufacture says as they do tend to move the goal posts when a few have snapped under warrenty.
