Used to find alot of dead birds and squirrels when working on the power lines. Especially in nice dense conifers, the more frequent they turned up the closer you were getting to the top of the tree:001_smile:
  2. Im sure they had ones of these in college and they all said stand back when they released the tension.... BANG.... They werent doing it right, I sussed it out you could wind it back very easily, just took a bit of effort and time. Might not be the same winch though, think this was a monkey winch but think it is also called a tewhella.
  3. Dont worry mate they never bother to get us back within 3 years, more like 5+ if anything. Most of the re cut cony hedges are bleedin 3+ years!
  4. Yeah you are probably right there My marketing skills are a bit poor I think.
  5. Thats were we differ my friend, my price is usually cheaper because I can cut n chuck it all out quick. Well as long as its within the next 3 years.
  6. I hope Monkeyd isnt reading this, its his lifes work your dissing. There isnt much that we do that is good for the tree but a reduction is better than a fell (although in some cases maybe not) and thats my argument for reducing a tree. Lots of people want a smaller tree and as afar as I know a reduction is the only thing that will produce that.
  7. I must agree I do go for a thin rather than a reduction tbh I shoulda also added to wind sail, scary tree height reduction and patio light increase pruning.
  8. Does a reduction reduce wind sail? Answer=yes Does leaving a tree to grow naturally reduce wind sail? Answer=No. Looks fairly straight forward to me.
  9. Pissing against the wind mate, I know the feeling all too well.
  10. Its just a lot quicker and easier.
  11. I would hazard at a guess that that wasnt really real. There could be slim chance that I am wrong though.
  12. I was thinking that. Looks good for stealing fuel though:thumbup1:
  13. All my point was they havent grown that much and they woulda been a lot taller without the reduction. Obvious YES,but it is worth it to keep a 40 foot tree rather than have a 60-70 footer that will cause loads of hassle, ie people whinging about light, leaves scared it might fall down etc. IMO its better to reduce and keep maintained a mature tree than to just fell the thing and maybe plant up with a weedy birch. In an urban area though.
  14. At those prices it seems rude not to buy one!
  15. I do have a point but I will have to think about it first.
  16. Looks to me that those trees have been reduced before in the past. In fact I would bet on it.
  17. Pity some others didnt though. We actually used to target prune hawthorns sometimes.
  18. Excellent stuff:thumbup1: Since I nicked my rope the other day and only just found out its worse than I thought I will deffo look into having a go at this:thumbup1:
  19. Enjoy yourself then:thumbup1: An make sure you switch off your phone:laugh1:
  20. I woulda just taken some pics and done it mate. Well as long as it was dangerous, but then again even if its just got a crack in a limb and there are targets then that would be good enough for me.Also worth keeping the damaged section just incase they want a look. Can totally see the point the TO has though since I have had more than the odd call to take a tree out and say it was damaged in last night/yesterdays storm etc:sneaky2:
  21. Never worked on a TW but are you sure that there isnt another drain plug knocking about? Sometimes they run a pipe to a more convenient place. I would look into getting one made up for next time if it doesnt have one. Well thats what Vermeer do anyway.
  22. Those first two pics dont look real!!
  23. Gotta love an easy cheap repair
  24. I suppose if you think about it its probably more important to get a jack lolered in a works vehicle than it is to say get a climbing kit lolered. Not that I would condone such a silly and preposterous waste of time and money though. And I hope you didnt
  25. Just a quick note, firstly good luck in finding a job and sry I cant help out. Secondly SimonBullock do you think it wise to give out all those mobile numbers in an open forum? Unless of course they have given you permission if so I apologise. I know your just trying to help. May have been better to PM them imo.
