  1. just read this post again. There is no single most beneficial exercise for anything. You need all round fintess. For beginners is strength training - sqquats, deadlifts and overhead presses. ( beginners need to learn how to comtract muscles. ) Giving the usual body biulder in gym only knows how to use 35% of muscles at one time. For someone who had do squats and deads at twice the bodyweight. - can start doing chins, turkish getups and other strength based exercises...this will need to include a good stretching and warm up routine. heres a good routine for a newbie. Squat - 5 x5 reps 2 days week with 3 days rest between sessions. - add 5k every session. make these squats deep. deadlifts - 5 x5 1 day a week - do it between squat days and add 5 to 10k a week. overhead press - 5 x 5 - 2 days a week and add weight on as you feel but keep the reps at 5. Focus on form not weight as maximum contraction of all muscles is what strength is. add chins if you have energy.
  2. splitting by hand will always rule. gives yiou a sick pack and power to pack a punch. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJWqx-zPffs&feature=channel]YouTube - Sledgehammer Training - RossTraining.com[/ame]
  3. snow days off! when i started out i worked for a canadian guy up north - between aberdeen and inverness ( prob most snow in uk every year ) Remember working in white out snow conditions often and freezing all day long. Option 1 - take day off and sit by warm fire = don't earn wage Option 2 - Work in the freezing cold = make money.
  4. My house runs on oil and is costing a fortune. I want to switch to wood bruning stove as it makes better sense -having freewood at hand. I would need a 40kw. Based in Glasgow city so i would need a smokeless one. Please can pm me details for grant and recommended stoves as i am after one asap. Martyn.
  5. good thread. I have really bad hands ..esp in winter time. one year my hands were so bad that i could not use them for 2 weeks and Dr signed me off work. allfrom suing wets ropes with no gloves. i see that sherril tree are selling a hand cream for workers...we def needto take care of our hands.
  6. you body is a tool ..just like your chainsaws. if you don't give you chainsaew the right fuel , service is regular and look after it...it will have a short work life. You need to eat well, service you body regular by stretching and exercise and you will have longer work life also. though this is easier said than done. When the body gets older its usually the joints and lack of flexability that cause problems with movement so dynamic mobility exercises are important.
  7. thanks for all the info. I needed comfirmation that i was pricing correct and it seems like i price the same as other...only prob now is getting the costumers to accept the quotes. cheers
  8. well said. I have started to push my prices up. I would rather not do this job if i have to climb for 200 a day plus expenses.
  9. well the muppet who under cut you will make nothing from that. he will be cursing all day when he's doing it.
  10. Pricing will always be a tough one - too low and you arw working for nothing - too high and you are ripping people off. How does a established business work out quotes and how much they need to make per day? how do you work out your prices and what do you take into consideration.? I used to just charge for fuel, wages and profit..but i was just starting out and could work for cheap. I have started dividing my insurances for , tools, vehicles, tree work into months and adding this to jobs, i have worked out my total road tax per year and adding this to jobs, i have started charging for use of chipper and truck and working out my average servcing charges for vehicles, tools and chipper and adding this to jobs. after working out these calculations my expensies are high so my profit needs to be decent enough to cover the outgoings. any advice on this? Just sick of people thinking that tree surgeons onlky expense is a rope and chainsaw.
  11. I've used similar chippers before. They are so frickin dangerous! See all the mexicans using them all day with no training given
  12. thats strange mate. I had a weird one last year as well. were contracted in to fell trees in old church. All trees were marked and pointed out. One of the trees we were to fell was a very old yew tree...we didn't understand why it was to be felled and tried calling boss to discuss ( no answer ). Anyways it was a clear sunny day until we felled it and straight away a large storm cloud moved in with lightning /thunder that was so bad we had to jump in van. We decided to cut it back from path and head home...as we were discing it up we noticed that there was a demon shaped face in the wood running most the way up the stem. Sounds crazy..but the guys were so freaked out that we packed up and left the tree as it was. lesson learnt - never cut yew trees down in churches. Very strange day.
  13. Really nice reduction there. Good eye.
  14. i would tie in to Leylandi Tree at back. looks close enough. wouldn't climb that tree unless i had another tie in point though.l
  15. All scots are hard as nails!
  16. got to agree with others on here - stretching is best. though when you got busy day ahead its not the first thing on your mind. I think the prob is that all tree surgeons are going 100 miles an hr all day..and forget to look after ourselfs. strength training is also good way to stop . sore back then try working on your abs more. intercorsels muscles, obliques, top and lower abs, lower back. if that fails - codamol it is
  17. yeah the mobile one is annoying..but so is smoking all the time! Costumers don't like to see someone standing around with fag hanging out of mouth and neither will your boss..smoke only on breaks. keep the climbers rope clear...and try drag branches away from climbers rope before cutting.
  18. just checked Dengue fever out...real nasty! known also as bone crusher disease due to the intense pain. RIP Andy Irons
  19. because i need extra cash for beer and weed!
  20. still interfering with nature. when man steps in to change things it is interfering. wouldn't be right to kill another human being because there are too many of there race and they are using up all resources.... so why is it right to kill a animal because it is a better design than another. If a squirrel in verman then so is man!
  21. i don't agree with killing squirrels. Let Darwins theory of survival of the fintess rule. We should not interfere with nature.
  22. Its a baby. Buy a silky handsaw and get it done.
  23. this should be named ' grump oldies thread '..thats what happens when you get older eh..complain about tax's and how capable your were when you were a lad.
