  7. they are good ..though i would get some sort of face protector if you just have the clear/ smoke visor. i use motorbike mask.
  8. rupe, what i was trying to say is that up here in glasgow about 70% of costumers don't know what tree work is really about..they think we are landscapers that have only got basic felling ticket ( dumb lumberjax ). yeah i try to impress costumers..because when they really see what its about and the equipment and skill involved they change there attitude towards us and pass my number onto all the friends. yeah i buy fancy gear and shiny toys because it makes my business stand out from pikeys with white transits..which explains why i get most of the work i quote for. I think tree surgeons are mostly looked at as dumb lumberjax..and i think we all should try to show and explain to our costumers what the difference between pikeys and professional arborists is. they has been many occasions where i have been rigging down stem when i could have felled it or chubked it down..simply because-i enjoy it and i want to show the the costumer whats involved and i always get them coming out asking whats that for and they are really impressed.
  9. no reason why you can't climb into you sixties! eat well, strength train and stretch, don't smoke and drink loads. too many people bitch ab out being too old to do stuff.
  10. totally agree with you there. when i am pricing and feel a costumer thinks its an easy job or that we are just a bunch of smelly lumberjaxs i make sure to bring allthe gear from arborcoms to all the rigging gear and then proceed to rig down a tree that i could have cut n chucked just so i can show them theres a lot more too it than scrammbling up a tree and slicing branches. when i get a feeling that they think we are dumb lumberjax i use fancy tree boilogy words to confuse them then explain what it means....whos dumb now! lol
  11. Mick. If they don't pay. type out a formal letter saying if they don't pay in full before certain date ( lets say 7 day ) you will be charging interest and taking them to court. worked for me twice now.. and once i the costumer was a lawyer.
  12. taken down 8 mature douglas firs this week and need rid of timber. several tonnes. pm for details
  13. Where abouts in glasgow? might no someone who will take it from you.
  14. think i was 17 or 18 . finnshed school and my canadian neighbour had his own tree surgery business and got job with him for £30 a day dragging and helping out.
  15. oh yeah.. squat , squat, squat. squats have a spiollover affect on to your other exercises. getting stronger at squats will make your bench press go up.
  16. do the 5x5 program. 5 reps for 5 sets with 5 minutes rest between sets and 5 days of between training sessions. focus on doing slow reps.
  17. you can claim lunch. Also my weights are at my business address and they are provn to fix physical probs. Its cool though...was just wondering how ridiclous it is going to be to taxman. Will just open another company. personal fitness intructor and reg it to business address.....sorted!
  18. ok..what abut climbing trees wrecks your knees and back...so you buy weights etc to do exercises to strenghten you knees and back. job causes physical problems - find it hard to work due to this - so buy equipment that is scientifically proven to sort problems = business expenense!
  19. So if you can't climb trees due to being over weight...so you goto gym to build up fitness so be able to perform you job...a gym membership doesn't class as expense?? you can claim some money everyday towards your lunch..around 2.50 if i'm right. so why wuldn'tyou be be able to claim weights ??
  20. Only reason i am asking is that i have spent a fortune on weights, kettlebells, training book, supplements. etc tree working can hurtyour back...so you can go to chiropractor and claim that as expense..my exp shows me that back strains etc are usually caused by over development of one area of body and under development of another. So do weights, kettlebells etc is for keeping my body fit enough so i can work everyday! deadlifts for lower back and chinups for climbing. lol
  21. I have been told that you can claim anythning that relates to your work for expensies. I have been told that you can claim gym memberships expensies...as your body is a tool etc. Is this true?
  22. taking a silver fir down tomorrow. anything the timber is good for? firewood? Cheers
