  1. don't practice rescue techs . haven't done for a while now..but i should though. Too busy trying to earn a living.
  2. I use geckos I sharpen them using bashloin sharpeing kit. Maybe twice a year.
  3. Hi mathew. I am interested. I e-mailed you my details before about work. Martyn
  4. To much playstation and fish and chips! most guys in there 20's are so bloody unfit nowadays so the can't handle physical work. lol thye should all be given weights and running shoes so they can turn into men. What do my polish friends think of Scottish -" the are all 30 year old boys' guys in there 30's still turn up late for work often, make excuses why the can't work and still throw away a weeks wage in a weekend on drink. tree surgeon friend always says about old times - 'yeah thats back when men were men'
  5. mmmm...If you are just turning up as a climber to work with / for other company then no way should you be advertising your number etc . I would tell the climber to get his t-shirt off and put something else on. But if you are working as a fully set-up business with van etc and are sent to another job to do..then i think its ok ..as you are 100% doing the job and have full responsibility on site.
  6. it is has got a nice shape at moment and if i porune it i will have to take a lot off to make it worth while. I don't want it to grow back ugly and thick as the costumer likes it the way it is. will get pics up soon
  7. exactly! though it doesn't make you an arborist.
  8. Watched it with my polish g friend. Its true british people have many options so if they can't get the job they want they just won't work. ( not everyone ) and foreign workers are usually from harder backgrounds where there is no work so any full-time work that pays the bills they are happy with. Its a shame that british people come across as lazy because the majority of us do work hard. question is ..do foreign workers have agood understanding of health and safety? unlike other countries...in the u.k you have to have certs and qualifications.
  9. Just what i thought. Now i just have to convince costumer that i do prefer to preserve trees but this one needs to go. Cheers
  10. I have a costumer who needs something done with a 40ft eucalyptus tree. The tree is close to property and is growing from base into 4 stems. the stems are all leaning outwards. the client really wants to keep the tree but will remove it if it needs to be done. I was thinking about bracing the tree ( all 4 stems together ) but i don't think this will be a long term solution. Also the tree is also next to a 15ft retaining wall and i know that eucalyptus roots are invasive. how do eucalyptus trees take to pruning? pollarding? Is it worth saving or just remove it ? will get pics on here here shortly. Cheers Martyn
  11. by the time you have put the scaffolding up...you could've done the whole job.lol
  12. How come all posts on arbtalk in some off topic arguments?! keyboard kung fu. mmmmm....shows how much ego tree surgeons have.
  13. Forgot to add . these are subbie wages. so pay ther own tax etc and bring there own gear. I thought i was paying ok wages.
  14. am i not paying enough? Learner groundsman ( brush dragger etc ) - 50 experienced groundsman - 70 - Learner climber - 70 Intermediate climber - 80 EXP climber 100 - 150 Just sometimes i get guys calling me for work just out of college and telling me they are after 100 a day. :laugh1: Really annoys me as i started on 30 a day and only made 80 a day after 8 years. Just curious as don't know how much others pay.
  15. Omniata don 't listen to negatitive comments on this thread. Everyone on here acts like they have never failed anything and are experts in arb work. Yeah you need to be strong and fit to do this work.but learn to use your head to make jobs easier. methodical. you build up the strength as you years go buy and even the best of tree workers still get tired after spending 8 hrs up a tree. Go practice felling stems and go sit it again. good luck
  16. Nah not yet. should be sitting test around april. will be great..won't have to pay for chauffer service anymore. lol as you can imagine running a business and not driving can be a real pain in neck!

  23. hi cris.

I have alder and oak available at moment.

I have 1 load of Alder and 1 Load of oak.

    Its good timber for burning.

I usually sell this type of wood for around 60 a load unsplit and 140 split.

Bit more expensive than more common wood.

  24. Its the best job out there! most peole are stuck in a office getting ill from sitting on yer ass all day. Fresh air, exercise, nature and a bit of danger...can't beat it! and if you play your cards right you can make a comfortable living out of it. Not many other things i would rather do than tree work.
  25. great! spent a fortune on chains the other day. Will be sure to sure to use you for all my chains at that price.
